Thanks Ant. I haven't found another group that was a good as burnleyfc at
his height. One of the groups I'm on at the moment is a Lancashire
Vegetarian egroup in which there is little discussion about anything,
especially Lancashire and Vegetarianism (or food).
I occasionally try and liven things up a bit by suggesting that all
carnivores (especially cats) should be put to death because they don't
contribute anything to the planet (etc). This provoked many messages of
outrage from a surprisingly large number of female vegan cat owners/lovers.
Normally the messages are very formal or stuffy and cranky but just recently
there have been some personal ones such as Kev from Darwen complaining that
his job seekers allowance has been stopped because he has refused to work
for any firm that is remotely connected with animal products or processing
(which is basically all firms). This resulted in a flood of messages of
condolence and outrage.
There was also a rare message about food from a confused Lynne of
Rossendale...
"Just wanted to say a quick hello to everybody. Im Lynne from
Rossendale. Im sort of vegitarian so i hope im acceptable!!
I eat fish (occasionally) and I also eat dairy stuff. Dont mind not
having the fish but still want to eat organic free range milk, and
cheese etc and perhaps the odd egg!
Will I do?
I replied by referring to the theory that the large brains in human beings
is a result of ingesting the Omega 3 fatty acids and iodine found in fish
and left people to reach there own conclusions about this. On the other
hand it didn't do Gollum much good. Perhaps we need sunlight as well.
Hoping for Everton or Blackburn in the next round. There couldn't be a
better time to play Blackburn, could there? They seem to be genuinely shite
at the moment (as opposed to pretend shite) (which there were when they were
good)

Good to see that while, as you point out, most things online change, you
haven't.
I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed this stuff.
Sniff.

Too much amber nectar Eddie. This group stopped 5 years ago when John moved
everyone to his new group burnleyfc. And the Burnleyfc group stopped 2 years
ago when John moved everyone to his new group Claretnblue.
But as several(hundred)people have pointed out the real action is on the
claretsmad message board where there are several thousand members and approx
several thousand messages per minute. All things must pass of course. My
(new)theory on the fall of all web social things is that as soon as people
get to know each other then such divisive things as social class/status,
education, age etc kick in. In fact even recently status was discussed in
depth and everyone started revealing their age (as well). All the nutters
are strictly controlled by the Tony the Grouch who recently suspended the
registration of new members and will probably suspend me after reading this.
Although perhaps to avert this I should say that I think his contribution to
all things Burnley, his articles, match reports etc are second to none.
Statistically all egroups (like all social groups) can be shown to be in
permanent decline. A 12 month moving average on Claretnblue shows an annual
decline from 160 in Sep04 to 125 in Sep04 so unless John starts another
group Claretnblue will last exactly 3 more years (see attached graph)
