Excellent, Michael, a good starting point for the revival of the original
and best claret debating group.
So, er... without doing any research at all, I have this kind of gut
feeling, or reliable intellectual intuition, that the director responsible
for the new stands (Clive Wotsit) had this project dumped on him and that he
had no knowledge about stands (etc) and that he just got the standard amount
of government grant for erecting the standard bunch of seats with a roof,
designed by th e only available architect/engineer/contractor (all of which
is price fixed and decided in advance). The spec (view, sound etc) is
standard as well and usually it's the most number of seats for the least
cost anyway. The spectacular view of the moors and the interesting sun in
the eyes (/sunset) was an accidental bonus.
More to the point is Barry's choice of manager. How he could choose Steve
Cotterill, virtually inarticulate and unproven as a manager and as a player
against Brian Flynn all the opposite (articular, proven as a manager and a
player) is beyond belief. And if you want to bring in the complete
absence of money to excuse Mr Cotterill's abysmal performance then such
absence was known in advance and Brian Flynn has the best results ever for
no money (not to mention his contacts). Inarticulate? I heard his interview
today on Radio Lancs and what he said was virtually meaningless (in both
language and football terms).
So replace Cotterill with Flynn and re the acoustics I suggest hanging
millions of milk bottle tops from the roof of the stands to funnel the
sound and also make the crowd look bigger (albeit a bit upside down and
fragmented). Milk bottle tops? OK, something similar.

Subject: [clarets] Clarets Group in Football Related Post Shock!
I didn't realise but having looked at the Clarets Mad website, it seems its
10 years since they demolished the Longside.
What a tremendous decision that was. We lost a great atmosphere and gained
two white elephants - one of them still isn't finished for gawds sake, we've
spent 10 years trying to pay off the debt (and now we don't even own them),
they were designed by someone who had clearly never been to a football match
given the way that what little atmosphere is generated is funnelled up and
out of the ground. You get wet if it rains and you're in the "covered"
lower tier. Prices have trebled and I now get fined for turning up to watch
on the day.
They should demolish the Cricket Field stand and replace it with terracing.
Give the Longside to the away fans where we won't hear them if they make any
noise.
