Clarets Trust - "The Day Of Reckoning"   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #15613 of 15698 |
After several months of preparation, the day of reckoning has finally arrived.
Sunday April 4th sees the first tangible steps towards a possible Supporters
Trust at Burnley Football Club with an Open Meeting, which is being held at the
James Hargreaves Suite at Turf Moor. Doors will open at 12 noon, and proceedings
are due to get underway at 12:30pm. All Burnley supporters are welcome, and
entrance is completely free. There will be a variety of speakers, including
representation from Supporters Direct who are the government backed agency
tasked with enabling fans to play a responsible part in the life of the football
club they support.

Several messages of support have been received in response to the interest that
the prospect of a Supporters' Trust at Burnley has raised:

Firstly, media guru Alastair Campbell, speaking after a vital away point at a
recent game at the City Ground, recognises the difference that football
supporters can make:

"I know the passion felt by Burnley supporters for the club, which was evident
again at Forest tonight. The Clarets Supporters Trust is a further expression of
support from the community and I wish it well in its efforts to make a
difference for fans and club alike,"

Newspaper editor and TV pundit Tony Livesey adds:

"Burnley fans standing shoulder to shoulder are a formidable force and together
I believe we can save our club. The BFC Supporters Trust has my 100% support. I
am never prouder than when I tell everyone I meet that I am a Claret. As
Spartacus taught us, the time has come to stand up and, one by one, pronounce:
'I'm a Burnley fan!'"

Clarets legend Willie Irvine still holds Burnley close to his heart and
understands the passion of fellow supporters:

"Burnley fans have always said that the club is their club. With the setting up
of a Supporters Trust, here is the perfect opportunity for them to help make
sure that this famous Football Club will still be there for their grandchildren
to support.

And finally, Burnley FC Chief Executive Dave Edmundson has already put on record
his view that a Supporters' Trust could be a vitally important step forward:

"The club is in favour of them and we see them as a very important feature, it's
the way we can secure the future of the Football Club."

A Supporters' Trust would be run by supporters, for supporters, and in the
overall interests of Burnley Football Club. Therefore, all fans are urged to
make their way to Turf Moor this Sunday to hear at first hand how a Supporters'
Trust would be able to make a real difference.

Please do your part to ensure that Sunday 4th April will go down as yet another
important day in the long and distinguished history of our great club.
