Clarets Supporters' Trust
Supporters' Trust Update: "Here Are Your Starters For Ten"
(common questions about Supporters' Trusts in general and how a Trust could
prove to be invaluable for Burnley Football Club and its supporters.)
Q. What is a Supporters Trust?
It is a democratic, not-for-profit organisation of supporters, committed to
strengthening the voice for supporters in the decision making process at a club.
Q. What are the essential factors required for a Supporters' Trust?
It must be run democratically, be open to all fans, as well as being
representative and pursuing viable and sustainable objectives.
Q. Why do we need a Supporters Trust at Burnley Football Club?
Put quite simply, we've been missing out! Over 100 clubs in England, Wales and
Scotland already have a Trust and there are many ways in which a Supporters
Trust can have a positive influence.
Q. What can be achieved by Supporters Trusts?
Although several high profile Trusts have helped to ensure the survival of their
club eg: York City and Lincoln City, others, including those at Manchester
United and Arsenal, have been able to play an important role in the ongoing
links between fans and the club they support.
Q. Are there other ways that Trusts can help their clubs?
As well as trying to raise funds to invest in the club, in some instances Trusts
have also been able to gain additional grant funding which the club would not be
able to obtain on their own.
Q. How much would membership cost?
There are clear recommendations that the cost of annual membership to a
Supporters' Trust should be no more than the average cost of a ticket for a home
game.
Q. Is membership open to all fans?
Yes - and in addition, concession membership would be available to OAPs,
students and minors (although as Trusts are legal entities, only those over 16
would be permitted to vote.)
Q. Is there anything else that supporters can do to help?
Should a Trust be established at Burnley, there will be a requirement for
volunteers to offer their various skills and services to run the organisation.
It is intended that there will be an opportunity at the Open Meeting to leave
your details if you feel that you would be able to help in this way.
Q. Have any steps already been taken to determine the viability of this venture?
There have already been positive discussions with the club and with supporters
groups, who have been extremely positive about the potential for the
establishment of a Supporters' Trust.
Q. Finally - Why should I attend the forthcoming Open Meeting?
We need as many committed Clarets as possible to attend this meeting to give a
positive vote of confidence in order for this venture to go ahead.
Please also remember to mention this meeting to fellow Clarets as well!
Open Meeting (entry is totally free and all supporters are welcome)
