This past Thursday a friend and I did some scripted wrestling. I
ended up walking away with some nasty bruises and wounds. I have a
lot of experience in fight choreography, but my friend doesn't. He
got a bit too excited and neglected to tell me what he was gonna do
so he ended up kneeing me in the face when he delivered a TKO stunner
on me. It hurt. It still hurts. I can still taste the cuts under my
lips when my teeth tore into them. Anyway, just by doing scripted
matches and rehearsals, it's damn hard work. I have bigger respect
for wrestlers who take bumps because my head was ringing for a bit a
couple of days after.
My friend really wants to get in the business after watching a local
show called WCWA. A friend of his who actually wrestled on the card
said he was lucky if he even got paid twenty bucks. However he was
just happy to wrestle, but that tells you a lot about the indy scene.
There are no wrestling schools in San Diego, so he would have to go
all the way up to L.A. (XPW territory). I want to see if Rey Mysterio
Jr. or Konnan would ever open up a school here. Ken Shamrock had one
real near to my house, but it closed up. But given the state of
wrestling, I just don't think it would be smart to start now for
anyone wanting to get in the biz.
