I stole this from PW Torch.....
PWTorch.com has learned that not only is Spike Lee suing Viacom over
its plans to change the name of its network to Spike TV, but The
Rock is suing The History Channel over confusion in the marketplace.
The Torch has learned that Rock plans to file papers tomorrow suing
A&E Television Networks, the parent company of The History Channel,
over his claim that their current marketing campaign implies he is
associated with the network.
Rock says in his lawsuit: "The media description of this network's
name, as well as comments made to me and my wife, confirmed what was
obvious - that The History Channel was referring to The Rock, The
Great One."
The History Channel spokesman says: "(We are) confident that the
court will reject any legal claims by Mr. Johnson to the popular
word The."
Shane McMahon, Steve Austin, and Pat Patterson signed affidavits
saying when they heard of The History Channel, they thought The Rock
was associated with the network in some way.
More Breaking News:
The Learning Channel is firing back with a lawsuit against WWE
for "Tables, Ladders, and Chairs" gimmick matches. States their
lawsuit: "Our network executives constantly get letters from
wrestling fans asking when we're going to take off 'Trading Spaces'
and air some gruesome fight between wrestlers using ladders, folding
chairs, and desks. We didn't understand why, but now we understand
that WWE has attempted to capitalize on our popularity by naming a
violent match after our popular network."
WWE, still smarting from losing a lawsuit to the World Wildlife
Fund, is suing WE, the Women's Entertainment network, for confusion
in the marketplace. Says award winning WWE attorney Jerry
McDevitt: "WE is clearly attempting to capitalize on the popularity
of Raw and Smackdown's ratings power by tricking our fans into
tuning into their network. Needless to say, our fans have been
greatly damaged by this egregious marketing scheme and we expect WE
to hone up to their intentions and make things right."
Jerry McDevitt is also filing a lawsuit against the Bloomberg
Channel, stating that the news and information network is
capitalizing on the name value of WWE superstar Goldberg. "They
could have used any name - Bloomstein, Bloomington, Bloomstrum,
Bloomjack - but they chose Bloomberg. We have signed affidavits from
numerous WWE fans who believe when flipping channels that it is a
channel dedicated to a new Jewish wrestler with an undefeated
streak."
