Taiping Hash, November 21

The Taiping Hash this month goes to the lush green mountains of Zhejiang .
Mountain trails, bamboo forests, pristine and scenic lakes and an ancient town
form the backdrop for a day of exercise and intoxication. The trail will be
completely virgin hashing territory.

The run will feature the ancient city of Cicheng famous for sending hundreds of
Confucian scholars over thousands of years to Beijing for imperial service. The
above average success of their intellectual pursuits was largely credited to a
stringent running regiment in the nearby hills. Running has a longer tradition
in Cicheng than tea and porcelain. On this Taiping Hash you will be retracing
the steps of some of China's greatest imperial scholars.

The hares are two of the brightest lights in the Confucian scholarly universe:
Suck-my-frog and Handslider. The hares have promised that all participating
hashers will be able to raise their IQ by at least five points.

And if this was not enough culture, the ancient city of Cicheng is a 2009 UNESCO
Asia-Pacific Heritage Award winner.

For a preview, look here http://www.cichengtour.com

There will be a long and a short run. Front runners should complete the long run
in less than 90 minutes.

Dear Taiping Hashers,

Together with a team of runners from Shanghai, I am participating in the Oxfam Trailwalker in Hong Kong. It is a 100km walk/run/race in the mountains of Hong Kong along the MacLehose Trail in the New Territories.  It is a team event whereby we all start together and finish together. It is touted to be one of the toughest team events in the world, and has over 16,000 meters of elevation change. Needless to say, it is going to be a challenge.

The 100km race is also a fundraiser for the Oxfam charity. Donations will go to help alleviate poverty and pollution in developing countries.

I would very much appreciate your support in this event. If you are able to donate, it would help us meet our team goal of $10,000HKD.

To donate, please go to: http://admin.oxfamtrailwalker.org.hk/en/registration/teamDetail.html?teamId=200954208

To learn more about our team and our challenge, please see our attached presentation.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Best Wishes,

Noureddine

Taiping Hash, September 19

The Helsinki faction of the Suzhou Hash has managed to divert a large blast of
arctic air for a cool and relaxing September edition of the Taiping Hash. The
location for the September run is the exotic Qionglong mountain, which is
located southwest of Suzhou.

Not only is Qionglong mountain famous for pine trees, bamboo forests, and
beautiful vistas, it is also the site where Sunzi wrote the ¡°Art of War¡± and
the home of the annual China Sunzi Military Cultural Festival, which attracts
military experts from around the world. Hashers may be challenged with not only
solving checks, but also with dodging hand grenades and withstanding infantry
charges.

Take a look here: http://www.szqls.com/enindex.asp

The hares promise a run that the great Veikko Karvonen and Paavo Nurmi and the
almost-great Nina Holmen would be proud of. The Flying Finns claims that the run
will go down in Taiping Hash history as a "Runners Run", although there will
also be a short route for walkers and Swedes.

Forget the shiggy and jungle fighting that slow down the serious runners and be
prepared for open trails and challenging mountain climbs. Front runners should
complete the trail in 75 minutes.

And if you are lucky enough to participate on the Taiping Hash run to Anhui
province in October, please bring your money to Wooly Bush on Saturday.

This month's essential details:

Date: Saturday, September 19

Location: Qiong Long Mountain, Jiangsu Province

Hares: King Piss, Why Not, No-Name Christian, and Albin Stenroos

Bash: Authentic and world famous Qiongllong cuisine with lots of ICE COLD BEER.

Taiping Hash: August 22

Following July's summer Death March in Huzhou, the hares for August have decided
to bring us back to the familiar, gentle mountains of Lingyan, located to the
south of Suzhou.

The Tourism Brochure says it best:

Lingyan Mountain Scenery Area is located at the foot of the Lingyan Mountain
which is always praised as "its beautiful scenery exceeding the others in the
South of Yangtze River". Lingyan Mountain , presents the stereoscopic history of
the Wu and Yue States of the Spring and the Autumn Period, with simple and
unsophisticated nature landscape. Lingyan Mountain ¡¯s long history
civilization, elegant gardens and well- known legends make it the most valuable
place of interest for the people in modern times, who are eager to enjoy
relaxation and luxury, developing their interests and appreciation. Let¡¯s
approach Lingyan Mountain, stepping into these private gardens with a history of
hundreds of years and tasting the classical elegance and leisure in our memory.

Even though we are still the Summer Period, and not the Spring and Autumn
Period, Lingyan Mountain still promises a spectacular location for a run.

The hares promise a vertical climb of sufficient challenge, in addition to
scenic rural trails that will expose the runners to tea plantations, secluded
farms, occasional shiggy, inspiring temples, resting areas for the dead, fences
with locked gates, and traditional Lingyan architecture.

FRB's should finish in less than 75 minutes.

This finish is at secluded valley with a lake, which is ideal for refreshing
August swims. Thirsts may be quenched with plenty of ICE COLD BEERS.

The hares allege that the run site is only a 90-minute ride from the Grassy
Knoll.

Photos and more details of Lingyan are here:
www.17u.com/destination/scenery_1366.html

This month's essential details:

Date: Saturday, August 22

Location: Lingyan Mountain, Jiangsu Province

Hares: the return of ¡°Master Wanker¡± and a surprise ¡°Mystery Hare.¡±

Bash: Bashateria serves only authentic Lingyan Mountain village food. No
imitations.

In order to enhance the exclusivity of this event, we will take only one bus.

Please confirm if you would like to be part of the first Taiping Hash run in
exotic Huzhou, Zhejiang province.

__________
Taiping Hash, July 18

Like a thoroughbred sprinting down the final stretch, the Taiping Hash finishes
its own Triple Crown this month.

In May, the hares set a trail through the bamboo in beautiful Dongmingshan,
Hangzhou. June was scenic Dongshan in Suzhou.

The third and final stage of the Taiping Triple Crown is this month with the
first Taiping run ever in Huzhou.

The setting is in the village of Daochang, which is near the country city of
Huzhou and the south bank of Taihu Lake. The local tourist officials describe
the area as follows:

In order to make full use of the unique natural landscape and humanistic
resource in Daochang village, the project will be developed in combination with
historic interests like Ancient Plum Flower Mountain Villa, Wanshou
Temple,Huyuan Tomb, ancient ruins of Xiagu City, and etc. The area will also
character as ¡°having lunch in farmhouse, living in farmhouse, traveling in
countryside, and enjoying farmer¡¯s happiness¡±, composed sightseeing and tour
with
appreciating rural flavor, experiencing farming civilization and enriching
life.Daochang will be built into a cultural tourist area consisting of rural
cultureand landscape culture.

Plus, in what will surely make our German and Dutch hashers feel at
home,Daocheng village boosters claim that ¡°the Rhine River of China flows along
the village¡±.

Camel and Stiffy are able to introduce the virgin trails of Daochen thanks to
the never ending expansion of China¡¯s freeway network. A ribbon of concrete now
extends from the Grassy Knoll on the A-9 far across the countryside to open up
access to the closest mountains to Shanghai. You¡¯ll be on trail in record time,
less than two hours from Hongqiao! (editor¡¯s note: maybe).

The hares promise an exhilarating one hour trail for walkers and a pleasant 80
minute trail for those who want more mountain for their money.

As for last month, hares, Johnny Wad and OJ promised the run of the year. By
most accounts they quite possibly achieved this. Their trail of tears up and
down sacred Dongshan had the pack gasping for breath while taking in stunning
views. All felt exhilarated with the accomplishment of getting up the
mountain, except when being passed by super-human 80 year old women carting 120
kg loads of freshly picked ¡°red fruit.¡± The whole trail was laid with an
environmentally apportioned 500 grams of flour and one stick of chalk stolen
from a five-year old girl who fell off a ladder while gathering fruit. Luckily
the chalk did not break.

Finally the pack was treated to a beautiful lightening storm over Taihu Lake
followed by a thunderous downpour from the heavens. Three members of the pack
decided to stay on the mountain for optimal viewing and a more electrifying
experience.

This month's essential details:

Date: Saturday, July 18

Location: Huzhou, Zhejiang Province

Hares: Camel, Stiffy

Bash: Mystery meat stew infused with local magic mushrooms; big fish with big
fish sauce; green vegetables with green vegetable sauce.

Time: We estimate the run will start by 1:30 p.m. We plan to start the bash by 5
p.m., leave by 7 p.m., and be back in Shanghai by 9 p.m. Maybe.

This will be the Hashing event of the year!!!! Make sure you do not miss this

The location is Kalibuan- a Bunon Tribe Aboriginal village in Nantou County, in
the shadow of the beautiful Yushan (Jade Mountain). It is a truly stunning
location and this is an event that no self-respecting hasher should miss!!!!

We will leave Taipei on Friday evening by train at 6pm and will arrive back in
Taipei on Sunday at 9.16pm.

So what happens in between?

(1) On arrival in the quaint mountain town of JiJi on Friday night we will hold

(2) On Saturday, after breakfast, we will head out for the first run of the
weekend. Hared by the legendary Mijo Slut (Penniless/ Nick Mayo), this will be
an epic A to B affair that will sweep through a pristine valley in the shadow of
Yushan. Assisted by Taichung's very own Homo-Globin this really will be a GREAT
run. We really do have the best hares working on this event so do not miss
out!!!

(3) After the run of course, we will have a monster down-down session, followed
by another massive bash. All located within Kalibuan, an Aboriginal village set
in a majestic valley with views of Yushan. Great food, great views, and tons of
brew!!! Awesome!!!

(4) We will stay overnight in Kalibuan in cabin style accomodation.

(5) The next day (Sunday) we will do it all again!! After a relaxing breakfast
we will gather ourselves for a run hared by the Yoda of hares: Village Idiot.
Assisted by the Godfather, Carrier, this is another A-B in a fantastic area and
promises to be EPIC. The run will be mercifully short then we will once again
hold Down-Downs and Bash like there's no tomorrow!!!

(6) Finally, we will be transported from the bash to Taichung, where we will

_____________
Taiping Hash, June 20

We are all aware of China's five sacred mountains: Hua Shan, Tai Shan, Heng Shan
(Hu Nan), Heng Shang (Shan Xi) and Song Shan.

Now, prepare yourself for an even more sacred experience: Dong Shan.

In what promises to be the best Taiping run ever since last month's epic run
near Hangzhou, the hares take us near Suzhou and Taihu Lake for more than ever
could be described in words.

But we will try.

Shady, conifer lined mountain trails, simultaneous spectacular views of both
mountains and sea, verdant tea plantations, and ancient Ming dynasty village
structures are only some of the spectacular sights available. The lofty peaks,
deep valleys, spectacular waterfalls, enchanting rocks and the centuries-old
pines and cypresses will undoubtedly encourage you to linger with no thought of
leaving.

After sating your spirit with the spectacular sensory experience that is Dong
Shan, you will then be invited to quench your thirst and extinguish your hunger
with what will inevitably go down in hash history as the best circle and bash
since May 2009.

The hares have noted: ¡°Do not even think about how great this run will be, it
will merely hurt your head.¡±

Warning: In an effort not to disturb the natural beauty of the trail, the hares
did not remove shiggy from the trails. Thus, if you are concerned about the
pristine condition of your legs, you might want to wear long trousers.

The hares claim that the long run will be 70 minutes for frbs. There is a short
split for those more interested in a leisurely walk to take in the stunning
scenery.

The Details:

Date: Saturday, June 20

Location: Dongshan, Jiangsu province

Hares: Johnny Wad, O.J.

Bash: Freshwater delicacies from the lake. Rare mountain vegetables. Wild boar.

Time: We estimate the run will start by 1:30 p.m. We plan to start the bash by 5
p.m., leave by 7 p.m., and be back in Shanghai by 10 p.m. Maybe.

Taiping Hash: Dongming Shan IV: May 23

Several hashers have noticed a trend on the Taiping Hash, and made a request:

¡°Why so many girls sign up?¡±

¡°Give me some motivation by inviting more young men so I will try approaching
and catching them¡±

So, all the athletic young men out there, take this as your invitation to show
up for the ladies.

Kindly respond if you will attend so we can arrange the buses and the bash.

The dinner will feature wild mountain chicken and plenty ice cold beer.

Note that the bus will return to Jinqiao, which may be in time for the SHHH
festivities.

Taiping Hash: Dongming Shan IV: May 23

The Taiping Hash returns yet again to Dongming Shan Forest Park for a pleasant
stroll over some hills and through bamboo forests. Wild strawberries, rippling
creeks, scenic temples, and tea plantations will greet hashers in the park,
which is northwest of Hangzhou.

For somewhat accurate views of the area, take a look here: www.dms-forestpark.

There will be a short run, as well as a longer run.

We strongly encourage everyone to carry water on the run. There is nowhere to
buy water along the trail. We will ensure that there will be enough water on the
bus (and at the finish).

The run has almost no shiggy. It will be a run.

The run site is only 190 KM from The Grassy Knoll. Those driving can meet at the
Liangzhu / Moganshan Road exit off the Hangzhou Ring Road.

Past runs at Dongming Shan have elicited glowing reviews, such as this one
received today from an actual hasher:

"I recall being there in 2005 ... very, very tough long run ... 3 more
mountains ... up and down ... more mountains ... most horrible experience I've

For those not interested in such a rare, character-building experience, a short

Taiping Hash, February 21

Massive cost cutting hits the Taiping Hash this month as we slash
bus expenses with a run in nearby Waigaoqiao, which is in northern
Pudong at the confluence of the Huangpu and Yangtze rivers and the
ocean.

We have found virgin trails within beautifully kept countryside,
farmland and a nature reserve. There is a massive green belt of
replanted second generation forest and abundant opportunities for
bird watching. Friendly local villagers will cheer you on.

Classic Taiping Hash run start and finish. Without a doubt, the best
February run ever.

A-B run; 60-75 minutes with long and short splits.

A stimulus package will include large quantities of ice cold beer.

Head count reductions means that we can afford only two hares:
Pusseye and Wooly Bush. Johnny Wad has been reduced to unpaid
intern.

We will take only one bus. Please respond to this email if you want
to go.

The Details:

Date: Saturday, February 21

Location: A mystery forest area somewhere near Waigaoqiao.

Time: We estimate the run will start at 2 p.m. We plan to start the
bash by 5 p.m., maybe earlier.

Times for the bus and regroup:

11:45 a.m. Puxi, Portman Ritz Carlton, 1376 Nanjing Xi Road, meet
outside by the Starbucks

12:15 p.m. Lujiazui, the first bus stop on Century Avenue after the
Yan'an tunnel.

12:30 p.m. Pudong, Jinqiao Starbucks, 633 Biyun Road, by Carrefour
Hares: Pusseye and Wooly Bush

Cost: RMB 200, probably cheaper, but not necessarily. But possibly.
