Taiping Hash¡ªMay 27
This month, it's virgin trails through the plum tree forests in
Chaoshan, Zhejiang province.
___________
Upcoming runs:
June 17, Shagga and Austin Powers
June 30-July 2 Hangzhou/Moganshan, Zhejiang Province, joint run
with Free China Hash organized by Jean
August 19 Camel and Kin at an mountain somewhere in east China
Sept 1-3 Guizhou Province, another Free China joint run
Of course, these dates are subject to, and probably will, change.
______________
Before we provide the details for the May run, please take a few
minutes to read about a couple of changes we are making to the
Taiping Hash.
First, except during the hot summer months, we will try to make the
runs a bit longer, possibly by adding a long/short split. We
understand that many runners want to run more than an hour after
sitting on a bus for a couple of hours.
Second, the March run with 150 people and three buses was a bit
overwhelming logistically. It's hard (and expensive) to book the
restaurants and transportation for that many people. And the large
numbers means it is not possible to ridicule every person in the
circle.
After weeks of debate, we decided to limit each run to two buses,
which is a maximum of 100 people. For almost all runs, two buses
should be enough for everyone who wants to go. (What happened in
March was probably just a rare example of all the Hash planets
became perfectly aligned--great weather, spring blossoms, and a
BEC/Domestic Violence run.)
We will have a two part sign up system. We will reserve two spots
for each of the committee members, hares, and GMs from other
Shanghai hashes. In other words, these individuals have guaranteed
seats on the bus for themselves and one friend each (which is a
total of 84 people in the theoretical case that everyone will want
to go). These individuals will each have a week to confirm whether
they will go. If we don't hear from them, we will assume they don't
want to go.
All the remaining spots are on a first-come, first-serve basis.
We believe this system is fair to recognize the people who volunteer
their time to help organize the Taiping Hash.
Of course, anyone who wants to be on the committee or be a hare just
has to volunteer to do something.
Automatic qualification for beermaster is either of the following:
1. Confirming for a run and then not showing up
2. Showing up without sending an email confirmation
And the next person who blows off a run on account of snow in
Shanghai will be forced to buy the ice.
