........is not EPO.......it's LSD!!!! As in Long Steady Distance rides! Starting this Sunday - October 14th - join the Chico Corsa Cycling Club for their annual Fall & Winter LSD rides. Meeting location is at the One Mile Area each week. These rides will happen every Sunday until Paskenta(Super Bowl Sunday). These rides are all flat - no hills - and average about 18 to 20mph. Distance will be determined by those present, but usually start out being 30 to 50 miles, and working up to 80-90 miles when January rolls around. However, short-cuts are an option on every ride......so if you don't feel like doing all those miles, you can always bail out at various locations to head back home. More details about these rides can be found on the Corsa website here:
These are great rides to get to know your fellow riders in a low-key format. It's not the Fast 50, nor a hammerfest up one of our local climbs. It's riders just wanting to do what they love to do - ride!!!
I won't be out there this Sunday due to the Quincy Weekend ride, but hope to see you guys out there the following Sunday.

Hello Racers,
We hope your 2007 Adventure Racing season is successful. Adventure
Racing Costa Rica is nearing to our 24 Hours of Costa Rica, that
this year will take place near the Arenal Volcano area. The race
activities include jungle trekking, mountain biking, sea kayaking,
navigation and team challenges over a course of between 70 and 145
kilometers (depending on the route PRO or SPORT). Traveling
through the day and into the night, the route uncovers the diverse
and rugged terrain of the area. After a long night of racing, the
sun creeping up over the distant horizon will be a welcome sight.
Arriving at the finish after completing this grueling course will
give you an incredible sense of achievement. Visit us at
http://www.adventureracingcostarica.com/24.html and find out more
about this incredible race.
Our thoughts are turning as well to the route for the 2008 Coast to
Coast Challenge, with the 2007 winners for the first time being a
team from outside of Costa Rica other international teams are now
more encouraged that they can compete in the Ticos own arena. 2007
also saw a number of international teams bringing family and friends
as support. We organized a variety of programs for those who wanted
to closely follow the race, some who wanted to volunteer to help
with the race organization and a few who wanted to use the time to
explore other areas of the country and meet up with the teams at the
Finish Line.
If you have seen or follow our Coast to Coast Challenge and have
been interest in the past, I hope 2008 will be the year that you
come down and join in the Race. I am happy to help with any
questions you may have about the Race or in assisting in planning
your team and/or your friends and families visit to

Adventure Racing in Costa Rica is alive and kicking!
In March this year, Team Bones became the first non-Tico (Costa Rican)
team to win the Coast to Coast Challenge. The Tico teams want the
title back and have begun their training for next year's race,
scheduled for April 2008.
Racing in Costa Rica is challenging for even the most experienced of
racers and so why not use one of our other races as a training platform?
Coast to Coast Adventures organizes a variety of Races during the year
aside from our Coast to Coast Challenge. They are in different places
around the country and are shorter than the Challenge.
Come and join us for one of our weekend races and perhaps take a few
extra days to acclimatize with one of our International Packages. The
beautiful Pacuare Valley plays host to The Pacuare Adventure Race on
4th and 5th of August. It has all the elements of a tough Race but
with PRO and SPORT categories, it caters for racers with a variety of
experience. Race registration is included in the packages. For more
information on this Race and the packages available for international
racers, click on the link:
http://www.adventureracingcostarica.com/pacuare.html
A little later in the year, and a great way to escape from the winter
weather in the northern hemisphere, is the 24 Hours of Costa Rica
which is a unique opportunity to race in the shadow of the majestic
Arenal Volcano. Once again the field is broad to accommodate PRO and
SPORT category racers and we offer packages for international racers
to spend a little more time in Costa Rica to prepare beforehand and
rest after the race. Race registration is included in the packages.
Go to the link for further information on the Race and the packages:
http://www.adventureracingcostarica.com/24.html
If your team is limited on time, then just join us for the race itself.
If you are unsure of which category your team should enter or if you
just want to chat with someone about any of our races, Pablo Brenes is
the man! pablo@...
We look forward to hearing from you and to welcoming you here in Costa
Rica at one of these races. If you are saving yourselves for The
Coast to Coast Challenge 2008, please let us know as soon as you can
as route planning will start soon and from then we will keep
interested teams updated.

visit Costa Rica with a very affordable price and enjoy the country
while racing. The itinerary includes transportation, accommodation,
rafting at the Pacuare River, visit to the Arenal Volcano and the

24 Hours of Costa Rica
A competition that takes place in different areas of the country
year after year, seeking for those hidden areas that we don't

not just racing but having the opportunity to see a little more
within Costa Rica. There are different prices according to the
category that you register.
If you don't have a team, let us know as well we could get you in
contact with Costa Rican Teams or other single racers wanting to
come.
Choose one of our races and let us know. We will send you all the
information needed to get your team here. Visit us at

Once again we have successfully crossed Costa Rica from coast to
coast in our 7th Edition of the CtoC Challenge 2007. If you missed
it, check what Jason Quinn the navigator from Team Bones said about
it at http://www.sleepmonsters.com/racereport.php. If you want to
see the times, visit us at
http://www.adventureracingcostarica.com/ctoc.html.
A great challenge for all teams, long and tough sections crossing
the jungle, rivers, passing by Costa Rican communities, were we all
found the hospitality and warm that identifies our people. And for
the first time an international team wins the competition.
Congratulations Team Bones!
Does your team want to give it a try in 2008? We have already
started the registration; teams can plan their agenda ahead of time
and bring their adventurous spirit to Costa Rica. The spots are
limited so it will be a good thing to start getting register, there
will be only 15 teams competing, and the registration fee will be
$3,500 per team, including transfers from and to the airport,
accommodation for the first day and last day of the race and some
meals, a ten days itinerary that will also cover the registration
fee, medical assistance, insurances and for the best part, the
opportunity to enjoy one of the most beautiful places in the
tropic.

Also, we're working on getting a Time Trial going for either North

January 4, 2007 CtoC Challenge Update
With less than 2 ½ months before the start of the 07 CtoC race the
race field is almost filled. Seven teams from Costa Rica including
Red Bull, Battery and Thule plus 4 international teams are registered
for this year's race. Four spaces are still available.
A few leaks from the route design team. The first one is that the
there will be a whitewater rafting section included in the race route
and it will be on a class III IV section of the Pacaure River.
Also, one of the trekking stages will take teams over the Continental
Divide at an altitude of over 10,000 feet along a very remote trail.
The distance of the race has been calculated between 450 and 475 km,
depending on the specific route taken by teams between checkpoints.
There are a few racers that are looking for team members so if you are
interested in joining the race but don't have a team let us know and
we will put you in contact with them.
We hope to see you in March.

Dear mountain bike advocates,
NorCAMBA registered for three people to attend the IMBA Summit and
World MTB Conference in Whistler, BC. Due to family medical issues,
one person is not able to attend. The Summit is June 20-23. We have
decided to offer this space up on a scholarship basis to someone
from northern California to attend. Additional costs of travel and
housing may also be subsidized depending on need. We have room in a
carpool, leaving a few days early and returning a few days late to
take advantage of riding opportunities between here and Whistler.
We are hoping to find someone who has an interest in trails advocacy
and would like to attend this valuable educational experience, and
experience the fabulous riding in Whistler and between here and
there. Preference will be given to applicants who make a commitment
to apply what they learn at the summit to advocacy issues here in
Northern California. You do not need to be a NorCAMBA member to
apply. U.S. Citizens must be prepared to present documentation such
as valid or expired U.S. passport, U.S. birth certificate, or
Naturalization certificate to avoid delays at the border.
To apply for this scholarship, please contact Patty Ciesla by email
before midnight on June 11th, responding to these questions:
1) Name and contact information
2) Dates you can travel
3) Describe your interest in mountain bike advocacy
4) Club membership, if any
5) Verify you can afford meals and other expenses related to the trip
6) Any other information

Hey all-
Sorry to have missed out on the Trail Daze action! The Sierra
Buttes Trail Stewardship is a non-profit group promoting trail access
around the Downieville area, which, if you have ever ridden in the
Mountain Epic series, is home to a number of incredible rides. If you
haven't, then get out there. Packer Saddle is a national legend in the
downhiller world and is one of the trails they maintain year-round. It
isn't cheap, though. I'd like to ask you all to visit their webpage
(see Links) to see if you share in their vision. If so, I think we
ought to compile our efforts (and maybe some $dough) to join
as a group.
PS Don't forget the Downieville Classic is coming up July 28-30.
