Reply | Forward Message #133 of 253 |
Hi Everyone! I have to tell you, after seeing this course yesterday, this is bound to become an EPIC ride! Definitely take part in this 1st Annual(we hope!) Climb to the Pie ride. It's FREE and we not only have a couple of rest stops, but also a sag vehicle if you need it. Come on out and give it a shot! But.....bring your granny gear just in case!!

E-Mail Mark Bloom at mpbloom2@aol.com to RSVP so we can let the good folks in Alleghany know how much to bake. Climb to the Pie - June 28th - 80 miles, 8,000 feet of climbing!

Subject: [CycleSportCycling] Climb to the Pie--save the date!

Hi everyone--you may have already heard, or seen the flyer in the
bike shops, but I wanted to let you know about a ride Rodney, John W.
and I are organizing on June 28th--the Climb to the Pie. It's an 80
mile, 8000' ride starting east of Oroville at Willow Glen and heading
up to the remote mountain gold-mining hamlet of Alleghany at 5000'.
They do an annual bake sale for the Volunteer Fire Dept. there, and I
ran across it last year on a solo ride. I thought it'd be fun to get
a bunch of riders to go on a great hill ride with lots of baked
goodies at the top of the hill--not to mention support the nice
people up there. Those who've ridden with me know I
love long, hard remote climbing rides, and this is a good one: light
traffic, very good pavement quality, lots of varied climbing and
beautiful country. We're going to lightly support the ride with two
rest stops and course markings, and Greg Hollis has created a
wonderful map of the course. There will be a few choices for distance
and climbing options, so there should be something for everyone. The
baked goods will be on sale at two
places for those who want to ride a shorter option, or just eat
twice! There's no charge for the ride--we just ask that you email me
at
mpbloom2@aol.com to RSVP so I can let the Alleghany folks know how
many to bake for. The route map is posted on the files page under
Time to Climb--map, with elevation graphs and driving directions to
soon follow.
I hope lots of you can take part in this great ride, and email
me with any questions. Thanks, Mark Bloom
