Paskenta Report........   Message List

Hi Everyone! So, I had a chance this morning to go and check out the Paskenta course.......just to see what it looked like after all the rain. I don't know what it will look like on Sunday morning, but the weather folks are predicting rain all night Saturday night......and letting up on Sunday morning. However, as of today, here's what it looks like: Pretty good!

Here are a few notes: There is a small spot of standing water on Meridian Road about half-way to Lassen Road. It's not deep at all, not long at all, you can just ride right through it - but it was a big puddle. Rowles Road is no longer flooded - it looked great. However, there is some standing water by the side of the road.......nothing too serious though. When I hit Corning, it was foggy. The fog wasn't thick and most of it was overhead - but it was definitely cooler temps and visibility dropped just a tad. The road to Paskenta was beautiful - just amazing scenery out that way. The Dirt Section - This section can be described in one word - Slick!! The dirt sections of the road are wet, but not deep mud or anything like that.........it's just a bit slippery. The gravel was good - and would probably help with traction problems on that road. Dust, obviously, was non-existent. After the dirt section, the road is quite rough, with some new potholes out there(filled with water from the rains). So, just be careful. In addition, I saw at least two loose cows on the side of the road about a mile past the dirt section, so keep your eyes open for those guys. River Road and West Sac, as of this morning, are both open and clear of water. However, there were some slick sections on West Sac - wet leaves and such - just as you get on to that road. I don't know what those roads will look like the morning of the ride, but there is a chance they could be flooded. As of now, they are not. The finish line looked great as always.

Overall, the course looked pretty good. Just some potholes and some slick dirt to watch out for.....and the cows! The Paskenta section of the course(between Corning and Orland) were very very quiet - almost no cars - and great scenery. Should make for a good riding day.

Good luck out there and stay safe!!! I will see you on Sunday morning at One Mile at 8:00AM for the start - and will have some maps to hand out if you need them.
