FYI:
The California Bicycle Advisory Committee is contemplating recommending a
change to the California Vehicle Code. The change relates to the
requirements that bicycles stop at STOP signs and signals. Similar to the
Idaho Vehicle Code, the amendment would require that bicycles yield at stop
signs and stop (and proceed when safe) at signals.
The idea (per the CBAC) is that this would: (1) create more predicable
bicycle behavior (it amends the CVC to be consistent with what the majority
of bicyclists already do) and (2) reduce the burden of retrofitting all
signals to detect bicycles.
Our Bicycle/Pedestrian Discipline Group has been asked to gather data and
arguments on both sides (although the CBAC is strongly leading toward
supporting the changes).
Let me know if you have any input,
