Hay You Guys…
You know how I love Weather Mark Tavern in the south loop – well
they are having the coolest event coming up on Friday the 13th.
Let's get a group of us to go and meet there. We could have dinner
(they have a ½ price coupon on the website, and ½ price Quesadilla
or Roasted Portobello Mushroom Sandwich the day of) or… we could all
meet there later for drinks ($2. domestic drafts and a rum club with
over 40 rums)
On their website it has all the event info…
www.weathermarktavern.com BUT… at 8pm on Friday the 13th they have
mystic vendors there at the tavern to tell you your fortune and they
totally sound cool. One guy, Edward Shanahan has been published in
two books (Encyclopedia of Haunted Places – 2005 Voices from The
Chicago Graves – 2003) and he reads palms and is a Personal
Psychometrest (He can hold things from your deceased relatives and
tell you about them) The other one is ReZena Uuwin and she reads
tarot cards and does astrology. They say if you ask her a question
she can help you answer it. I'm going to ask her if I'm going to
meet someone new soon! I'll be there by 7:30pm – hope you can all
come - it would be fun to meet everyone and THIS COULD BE REALLY
SUPER FUN!
-Plus, for all us FOOTBALL fans… they have huge flat screen TVs and
every Sunday they play football trivia while you watch the game and
give away really cool stuff.
Remember they're really close to Soldier Field and the Field Museum
just three blocks south of Roosevelt. CTA Bus #3 King Drive Drops on
the corner of 15th & Michigan and there's lots of street parking
Weather Mark Tavern's address is 1503 So. Michigan Ave
OTHER EVENTS COMING UP AT WEATHER MARK TAVERN ARE:
-Oct 6th (This Friday) 9:30pm – Live Music 'Hatbacks'
-October 13th - Friday the 13th Party- Mystic Fair – This sounds so
fun!
-October 16th - Monday Boss's day -They reimburse you for cab fare
-October 21st - Thursday Sweetest Day – ½ price wine and roses on
the table. Also they say they will post a note to your sweetheart
on their website and you can use your laptop to show them with the
free wireless internet.
-October 27th Finally Friday Area Professional Singles Mingles
Event – this event is held every 4th Friday of Every Month
-October 29th Ladies Night-out---Featuring Male Models'. Hosted by
The Lioness' Club, Chicago (TLC) They are actually still taking
auditions for guys wanting to be male models Wednesday night October
4th and 11th. The website has TLCs contact info
June 15, 2006 – The Chicago Rush announced today it has placed lineman
Khreem Smith on the Arena Football League's exempt roster after Smith
signed a two-year contract with the Minnesota Vikings.
Smith (6-4, 270, Oklahoma State) finished his rookie season as the AFL
leader in forced fumbles (6) and ranked second in the AFL in sacks
(8.0). He also recorded 22.5 tackles, two passes broken up and one
blocked kick. His sack total is the third-highest single-season total
in Rush history, behind John Moyer's 10 sacks in 2004 and nine in 2003.
At the conclusion of the regular season, Smith was named Second Team
All-Arena and to the AFL's All-Rookie team.
The Chicago Rush will host a public celebration of its ArenaBowl XX
title at the Ram Restaurant and Brewhouse in Rosemont on Thursday,
June 22, the team announced today.
The event, which begins at 5 p.m., will feature Rush team captains
Bob McMillen, John Moyer and Etu Molden, the Adrenaline Rush Dancers,
the team's mascot, Grabowski, and, of course, the ArenaBowl trophy.
The Ram is located at 9520 Higgins Road in Rosemont.
"Our fans have been great since Day 1 and we wanted to make sure we
did something special to help them celebrate the title," said Rush
president/general manager Mike Polisky. "They deserve this win as
much as our players and coaches."
At the celebration fans will have the opportunity to pose for
pictures with the trophy, get autographs and purchase ArenaBowl XX
merchandise – including a commemorative poster featuring images from
the championship game.
The Rush defeated the Orlando Predators 69-61 Sunday in Las Vegas to
capture the ArenaBowl XX title. The win capped an amazing playoff
run in which the underdog Rush won three consecutive road games on
its way to the championship game.
I too had just about given up on our guys. What a run eh?! Coach Ho
deserves a lot of credit but the team came together and got hot at the
perfect time.
I only wished I had taped the game!

What has happend to the Chicago Rush?
I don't think they will win anymore games this year. I am very
frustrated with this team I can't get behind them this year. I feel
terrible but I just can not connect with this years team it seems like
they are not even trying anymore. I see so much sloppy play & lack of
concentration. I will still go to the games but I think this team
needs a miracle to salvage this season
Thanks for letting me vent & Go RUSH
Mando
I really hope the Rush prove me wrong
I disagree about Jeremy Unertl, every DB in this league gets burned. But not
all of them will tatoo the guy when he gets the ball like Unertl can. He is
a heat seeking missle waiting to be lauched at anybody who has the ball.
That is something you can not say about any other player on defense that the
Rush have on thier current roster. He is averaging 1 int per contest, you
haave to take that into concideration when assesing his overall ability to
be a cover man.

I got to watch the Rush lose to Colorado in person and I could not
believe how loose they played the receivers. While newcomer Jeremy
Unertl is capable of getting turnovers on defense, he also lets too
many catches happen. He's the type of defender who will get picked on
for this tendency. The defense is so soft in the secondary, that I'd
say (without looking at stats) it could be the worst I've seen in 5
years of Rush football. Since Dameon Porter and Lindsey Fleshman left
the team a few years ago, the pass coverage has been spotty, even by
high-scoring arena ball standards. The linemen do enough to get
pressure consistently on the QB's, so I don't see them as the problem.
Even with Moyer and Bleisath out, the front 3 played well in my opinion.
At the same time, I think the offense just needs to settle down and get
healthy at all positions. Butchie Ibeh is a great find and Etu looked
like his old self bringing in big catches. Of course, McMillen is
great. D'Orazio seems to be more mobile than Philyaw and just as
accurate.
Kicking is great, even without Gispert. I like the current backup
kicker. He missed the extra point, but he also hit that 53-yarder the
week before. He's got high, booming kickoffs too. The coverage teams
need to get better at tackling downfield,
He did not play at all against LA, he has a hurt shoulder right now.

I agree, he was bringing it Sunday. Hearing those pops he was dishing out
was music to my ears.
Welcome to Chicago Jeremy, I hope to see Unertl in a Rush uni untill he
turns up in the NFL. And if he keeps popping people like that, it will be a
short stay in Chicago.

Newly acquired Jeremy Unertl (you-NER-tuhl) who arrived via trade with
Columbus for OS Henry Douglas last week made an immediate impression
last Sunday. He had several nice pops on Kats receivers and broke up a
few passes. It appeared to have an effect on routes run over the middle
and seemed to tighten up the Rush secondary. Unertl even had an
interception in the end zone but had it nullified via penalty for
holding on the defensive line. He followed up on the next play with a
key pass break up. I for one am glad to see him in the Rush uniform.
And good old number 37, Jeremy Unertl might have to change the
pronunciation of his name to (Bone-crusher).

Coach Mike Hohensee rated his quarterback Matt D'Orazio a B+ so far
this season in his "Ask Coach Ho" taped segment on 2/9/06. Coach Ho
felt Matt had a very good first game against Colorado but struggled at
times in game 2 against the Dragons. Hohensee did feel that D'Orazio
did well down the stretch. In fact, D'Orazio leads the league in 4th
quater pass efficiency (16 of 18) and 4th down completions (4 of 5. All
for first downs) so it appears Matt steps up when the game's on the
line.
The Chicago Rush announced today it has traded offensive specialist
Henry Douglas to the Columbus Destroyers in exchange for WR/DB Jeremy
Unertl (you-NER-tuhl).
"We felt we needed to get some more size in our defensive backfield,"
said Rush head coach Mike Hohensee. "Unertl is a big, physical DB with
good ball skills. He has been on our radar for a few years and we were
impressed with him when we had a chance to see him in person during our
preseason scrimmage in Columbus. Unfortunately, to get someone you
want you have to give up a good player, and while we hate to lose HD,
we felt this was a move we needed to make."
The entire story on the Rush web page:
http://www.chicagorush.com/news.asp?ID=557
The also waived replacement kicker Steve Azar. He played in one game
for Chicago, connecting on three of five extra point attempts and
missing his only field goal attempt.
The NY Dragons, this Friday night's adversary (7:30, Fox Sports Net if
you can't make it to the Allstate Arena), were waxed by the Nashville
Kats 57 - 28 at home last Saturday. Dragons QB Aaron Garcia was sacked
7 times, One for a safety. Garcia, who was recently named one of the
AFL's 20 Greatest Players, had a terrible night, going 27-of 41 for 270
yards and four touchdowns. He was picked off twice, and he fumbled once.
Let's hope the Rush defensive line can get pressure on Garcia this week.

I read this on the Rampage site (http://www.rampagefootball.com/news/?

STATEMENT ON THE RELEASE OF RAYMOND PHILYAW - from Sparky McEwen,
Rampage head coach
"Raymond (Philyaw) has progressed and has had improvement in his
rehabilitation unfortunately there is enough pain in his rotator cuff
that exists for him not to return to the field at this time. Our hope
is that Raymond continues to progress to becoming 100% and returning to
form as one of the elite quarterbacks in this game."

I am new to the AFL. Just started watching last year. I am a big Rush
fan now. I also play in the fantasy games on Sandbox and Arena Fan
Online. I've been into the NFL for many years now. Hugh Bears fan of
course. Just wanted to introduce myself.

I love the Rush, and I am happy to be a part of this group, but once
again...I don't have the proper time to maintain and update
information about the RUSH....So please, if anyone is interested in
taking over as Moderator, let me know...
Hey guys! I'm new to this group thing and I'm hoping to get some info
on it. Like what is a group about? You might recognize me if your on
the AFL or Arenafan meesage boards as AFLinSTL. So if there is
anything you feel I need to know I would love to have it. Thanks.
I understand that football is a business, and there are definitely changes. Let's be clear about something. The Chicago Rush signed linebacker Frank Moore (a wonderful guy), Etu Molden (a team standout), and number of other players before the 2005 season was over. Etu Molden, along with a number of other Chicago Rush players stood to become free agents within a season or two. The players, who would become free agents within a season or two, that the Chicago Rush organization wanted to keep were all signed. So why didn't the Chicago Rush organization sign Ray Philyaw? Why was Ray Philyaw not as valuable to the Chicago Rush organization as the other players, signed, were at the time of signage or even now? I don't have to tell you that the Chicago Rush is widely known for its offensive plays. The heart and soul of any offense, AFL, NFL, NFL Europe, CFL, AFL2, and etc., is the the QUARTERBACK.
For an effectively productive, and highly valuable quarterback like Ray Philyaw to NOT be re-signed to the Chicago Rush organization is beyond forgiveable. It really is a sin! So is the Chicago Rush not properly and publicly saying a professional farewell to Ray Philyaw. So I'll say it, Goodbye Ray, and thanks for so many wonderful memories on-the-field, and your work within the Chicago Community, which I'm sure came at a great deal of travel. I hope that the Chicago Rush organization repaid your good work here with something equally as wonderful within your hometown's community..
Most of all I'm going to miss talking to Ray Philyaw. He is an atypical down-to-earth, southern man, who made good in the great midwest. I am, mostly, going to miss the Philyaw-Molden connection. This, I feel, is going to hurt us, as Rush fans, the most. Will AFL Sunday's be the same in Chicago? Stay tuned?!!!!

Why should Chicago Rush fans be glad to get rid of a quarterback who put the Chicago Rush on the map of NBC television every Sunday as oppose to the years prior to his arrival to the organization? Why should diehard Chicago Rush fans be so easy to wave to Ray, when months ago we were chanting his name?
JOHN GOSS <johnnyboygoss@...> wrote:
I say we should be glad the Rush got rid if Ray. He was good but I think a little overated. Besides we have Michael Bishop now and he will leed the Rush to arenabowl XX.
lilycolbert <lilycolbert@...> wrote:
It seems that no one has noticed or mentioned that the Chicago Rush has either axed or traded #12, Ray Philyaw.
Does anyone know, factually, what really were the circumstances that lead to us as fans of Ray Philyaw losing him? Why did the Chicago Rush organization not let us, for those of us who are fans of his, know publicly that he (Philyaw) was no longer a member of the team. Like a lot of diehard fans, we do check the roster bios to see who is still a member of the team.
There are fans of the team who did mentioned that Greg Williams is gone. A picture of Ray Philyaw remained posted on the Chicago Rush's website for a weeks. Now, the Chicago Rush organization can not mentioned that he is no longer a member of the team. How shameful is that. It is as if all of Ray
Philyaw's efforts to get the Chicago Rush to the Arenabowl was totally in vain.
I noticed last year, after speaking to Ray Philyaw at the season ticket holder's party, that he had a renewed sense of life and what was important to him at that juncture of his life. What I also detected, was that Ray Philyaw learned the hardway how he was very much valued with the organization. Needless to say, he seemed to be undervalued by the organization. I was hoping that this year would be different. It will be different, just not the way I had envisioned it.
Unless there is a severe typo in the roster/bios category, Ray Philyaw will no longer play for the Chicago Rush. For the organization to not let the fans of the Chicago Rush know whether they have traded him or he left is a sin. Rush organization: Please repent.
