Chicago lived up to their team name on Sunday on both sides of the
ball on route to a 50-30 win over the division rival Grand Rapids
Rampage. The Chicago defense forced 16 pressures, 3 sacks, and 2
picks with a nearly unstoppable line and on offense rushed for 44
yards, and 4 TDs, 3 from new QB Raymond Philyaw, who had 235 passing
yards on 16/24 attempts for 2 TDs and contributed 13 rushing yards.
The receivers, an unknown coming into the season played very well.
They were led by Lindsay Fleshman, who had 6 catches for 110 yards
and a TD. New OS Jeremy McDaniel also performed well in his Rush
debut with 5 catches for 55 yards.
The big story though today was the Rush defense led by arguably the
best line in the league. Both Rampage QBs were pressured on every
play and got 1 sack each from FB/LB Jamie McGourty, and all-league
linemen John Moyer and James Baron. That pressure led to 2
interceptions, the 1st was run back for a 10 yard TD by fleshman and
the 2nd by newcomer DS Corey Sawyer, a free-signee from Tampa Bay,
who also led the team with 10 tackles.
