Chad Hedrick won 50 inline speed skating world championship gold medals before beginning his career as an ice speed skater in 2002. In 2004 he won a gold medal in the 5000 meter event at the Ice Speedskating World Single Distance Championships, finished in first place at the World Allround Ice Speed Skating Championships, and was awarded the prestigious Oscar Mathisen Memorial Trophy for being the most outstanding international ice speed skater of the year. In 2005 Chad was selected to be a member of the United States Olympic Team. He qualified to compete in five events at the 2006 Winter Olympics, where he won three medals, including a gold medal in the 5000 meter event.
