Heres a new approach to ending Rangers bigotry... support them!!! (Apologies to
the decent rangers fans, but the club image is still to tarnished for me to
follow this guys lead. :-) )

Subject: [show-racism-the-red-card] Websites for the campaign & sectarianism in
Glasgow
Hi all,
I created this group in 2005 and lost my email address and Yahoo ID due to a
virus later that year. I had to rejoin my groups and forgot about this one.
Sorry I've neglected this group; I'll try to make up for it by contributing from
now on. NB: I can't modify the description of the group.
There wasn't a website of the Show Racism the Red Card campaign when I created
the group, but a quick search today has located the following two:
http://www.srtrc.org and http://www.theredcardscotland.org. Maybe you'd like to
take a look.
I'm not currently involved with the campaign, but maybe I will be in Glasgow
in the future; it'd be useful to cut across sectarianism between mainly Catholic
Celtic fans and mainly Protestant Rangers fans. I moved up from Manchester two
years ago and supported Celtic at first in preference to Rangers, tending to
find Celtic fans better politically than Rangers fans. Somebody suggested to me
that Catholics have more of a collectivist outlook and Protestants are more
individualistic. I decided to support Rangers this season as an anti-sectarian
move and reflecting me caring about individuals as well as society as a whole.
[I decided that I wouldn't support Rangers when they play Hibs (because they've
historically been the Catholic team in Edinburgh), Aberdeen (my long-time
favourite Scottish team) or Inverness Caledonian Thistle (being a new team with
a great name from a beautiful place). I've supported Celtic as well as Rangers
in Europe.] My support for Rangers may
perhaps have helped their great season, which will hopefully lead to victory in
the UEFA Cup tonight (on my birthday!) Another reason to prefer Rangers is my
hatred for the new Celtic chairman and former home secretary John Reid, a key
architect for New Labour when home secretary taking us towards the sort of
society predicted by George Orwell in "Nineteen Eighty-Four", where
revolutionary change is impossible. Nevertheless, I think I'll go back to
supporting Celtic next season...
