Miller, who scored two goals in the first leg, was invisible tonight.
A fiasco grande in Lisbon shocked the Celtic faithful with an own goal, a goal
due to sloppy defending, and a goal that was unavoidable.
Benfica, who played an average match, looked a class above against a side that
beat Motherwell 2-1, showing possibly the difference between Benfica and
Motherwell that Strachan had not taken into account.
The match was decided within 25 minutes with Caldwell's own goal on the 10
minute mark, and Nuno Gomez netting on 22.
In a match where celtic saw little of the Benfica goalmouth, they squandered
an open chance in front of goal. Stephen Mc Manus was man of the match, but in
my opinion, Boruc was the man as none of the goals was his fault and the Celtic
defence was non existent.
The only weak spot in Benfica was their last line and goalie, and it shows the
weakness of the Celtic attack that they could not take advantage of this fact.
With Man United losing, it will take more effort and less reliance on luck to
see their way to the last 16.
