Let's put it this way...if a Tiger player or
player(s) were making moves at the blue line with no one
defending them (and I'm saying they rarely were), they
would be benched immediately. That kind of mistake
isn't made at a level any higher than Bantam. You
cannot do that...you cannot make a dump in from your
side of the red line when uncovered...and you can't
pass the puck towards the center of the ice if you're
uncovered in your own zone. Those are the first three rules
of puck movement that you learn when you are in
Mites.
Talent-- Most of the talent we have become accustomed to was brought to CC by
Owens. What do think of His ability to build up the team in a couple of years?
I agree that many a time a good reason exists,
however, it seemed that the offsides was more often a
coordination issue between attacking players than a defensive
formation. Most teams knew CC had speed and gave a little
room. I imagine that some practice time was devoted to
when to carry, when to pass and when to dump. However,
this aspect of the game was not as well executed as in
previous tiger seasons.
I agree with the seemingly horrendous amount of
quality puck movement on the PP. I am now of the opinion
that the talent we have been accustomed to over the
course of the past 6 years has a lot to do with it...the
talent was definitely the lowest it has been since
Buetow this year. If you can't nail a pass tape to tape
everyone slows down a hair and the defense has time to
react.
I rarely saw a hesitation at the blue line for no
good reason. The player off the puck needs to read the
room that the puckcarrier has too. This is more of a
when to dump and how much you want to do that issue.
I do not want to get into an individual issue,
however, with the chat attention to this player I have an
observatioon. It seems that he trouble seeing what was going on
around him. When handling the puck, he usually looked
right at it. He seemd to have difficulty spotting the
quick pass and movement of players around him. I wonder
about his vision. A trip to the eye doctor?
Two areas of concern. First is the failure to
keep a forward in front of the net. The cycling on the
boards seemed ok, however, rarely was anyone out in
front when the puck came out. Second, hesitation at the
blue line. Many times the advancing lead player
hesitated at the blue line or suddenly moved laterally.
With the team's speed, this problem led to a number of
offsides calls and stoppage of play.
This is definitely a coaching issue. I thought
that the purpose of the power play was to move the
puck towards the net with passes tightening a box
around the defense. Once the box is tight, then draw the
defense out and create scoring chances. CC's power play
usually expanded the box with a loss of the puck along
the boards. As the season went on, the passing
deteriorated. The result were the outside shots into on coming
defensemen or the good old stomach shots.
Ok, Before I forget---

Shooting, Making
shots is not a problem for this team. The quality of
shot is the problem. I believe that the Tigers led the
league in shots to the stomach of the goalie. I think
that shooting up in the air is a difficult habit to
break. I imagine that there are many times to make
rising shots, however, torso shots do not give must
opportunity for rebound shots. The other problem is the non
shot pass. Tom Preissing gave the example on Saturday
night. By some luck he was in the slot with an open net
and yet passed to the opposite side of the net to a
covered teammate. No deflection and Hauser easily covered
the puck. The team must be more aggressive to take
the puck to the net at close range.
I think the only thing keeping Berk and Chris
from making many memorable big hits was injuries. In
fact I can remember a handful of HUGE hits in the
first game againt Michigan state by Berk...only to lose
him right away to the knee injury. I think Hartsy
laid a few of the biggest hits one can dish at his
size...and now he's got 6 months to bulk up for more next
year.

As for Justin Morrison...truly a mystery. He went
from one of the best power forwards in college hockey
to an average player in a half a year. I'm thinking
his groin was not 100% at the end...he had ZERO jump
this weekend.

Randy
Anyone know why CC seemed to refrain from making
the big check this season? Berk, Justin, and
Hartsburg all have the capability to lay out the nice clean
check but seemed to avoid that this year. Was that
coaching style? As we hang in the often-times dead
atmosphere of the WA I kept thinking that a big check might
get the crowd into it. (Couldn't believe the crowd
actually got loud without Walter or a Goal last night)

Trent works as hard as his brother did. I love watching
him on the penalty kill.

What in the hell
happened to Justin this season? I am so perplexed by this
season. He sometimes took over games last half of last
season.

It often seemed like CC never had a
forward out front of the net... again is that a coaching
style with regards to making sure someone is always
back?

Don Adam is one of the most inconsistent refs I have
ever seen. Rarely is it so obvious that he keeps track
of calls. wow!

Demarchi reminds me of Dan
Peters with regards to his temper. I'm glad we got Jozsa
instead. Josza started off pretty shaky but I thought he
made some great strides this year.

Noah Clarke
and Tom Preissing are going to be fun to watch the
next 3 years!

I'm sure there is more, but lets
start from here.
Chris -

Hope your melon is feeling better.
Here's a little incentive vs. Minnesota next year. You
know that idiot traitor that goes by the name Lucia?
Well he was the only one in the building that was
aware enough to notice the clock was still running
while you lay unconcious on the ice. Of course everyone
else in the building didn't notice that...they were
too concerned about you. Meanwhile Don "the hair" is
screaming at Adam about the clock. Like we couldn't just
reset that later. What a
moron.

Seniors,

Don't know what to say. It's been great. It was
very
clear that the effort was there this
weekend...especially KJ and Ian...you guys played your asses off.
Thank you for that...and good luck in the future.
You'll do great things.
Note to everyone: This site will NOT lie dormant
this Spring/Summer. There will be many an
update...from recruiting profiles to top 10 lists to really
goofy historical memories of even things that Brian and
I don't remember. More Alumni updates...more
pictures...and everything you wanted to get from Luke "use the
force" DeCock at the Gazette that apparently is on his
cutting room floor.

It's just a shame I wasn't
able to put this thing up sooner...I probably could
have right after Christmas but it took me a big bright
light bulb going on to realize how perfect this set up
is.

Again...feel free to use the message
board in any way you need to. Don't be shy.
If you haven't noticed...we have been joined by
one of the Tigers hardest workers here in the CC
Yahoo! club. Glad to see one of the players take an
interest in what the fans are up to.

Welcome to the
club Chris Hartsburg!
Hauser, CC students, and Dan Peters...in that
order. And I'm being nice to Dan Peters. That's the most
selfish, blatant disregard for "the team" I have ever seen
in 26 years of watching hockey. Scott Owens should
save the film (if one exists) of Peters penalty and
play it every Fall for the next 20 years for the whole
team.

Anyway...I am confident we will get a win
tonight...it's Sunday that is going to be a war. Kudos to Paul
Manning, Chris Hartsburg, and Aaron Karpan for last night.
I thought I saw Jesse Heerema loafing for a
second...but I must have been mistaken...that kid doesn't
loaf....does he?

Nah.
OK. Tigers got it going again and seem to have a
nice razor sharp focus on what's important. The big
question is WHO will step it up this weekend. My guess as
follows: Trent/Mark C. cash in on a short-hander. They
were unbelievable against St. Cloud in game 2. Plus I
think Mark is getting used to the cast as he faked the
flipping crap out of Melanson on his goal last friday
night. Looked far side and then shelved it. Beauty! Toby
needs to put a stake into Lucia's heart as well so I
see him burying at least one. Will last weeks game
give Jesse the giddyup he had to start the season?
Here's hoping so. Disappointed that Joe C. is still in
concussionville as he had really stepped it up recently. I was on
the road and somehow picked up the Gopher broadcast
in Nebraska the last time CC was in twinkie-land. My
goodness did the announcers whine about Joe C. being a
cheapshot. He obviously managed to get under more than just
the players skin. (That was the game they lost too)
Here's hoping for the broom. One little fear is that the
rodents rally around Samargia.... IF Justin starts
throwing the body around then that'll be a worry we can
forget. Go Tigers!!!!
Alright...let's get it on everybody. I know
you're reading this message...I know this has been an
emotional rollercoaster of a season...but just think...in a
couple dozen hours we have a chance at staking claim in
one of the greatest accomplishements in CC/WCHA
history. To beat the Gophers this weekend will give us a
very realistic chance at making the NCAA's...which
seemed like total nonsense just a few weeks
ago.

I think we all know the team that was swept by
Mankato and dropped a pair out East is NOT the team that
will show up this weekend at the CSWA. The wide-eyed
leave-it-all-on-the-ice Tigers that outplayed the best team in the
country last weekend is for real. They want it. They'll
get it. But just to make sure let's blow the roof off
the CSWA and show the world what noise is.

Every scoring chance, every save, every bodycheck,
every 3 on 2 break, get out of your seat and scream
like a banshee. Wave your arms a little bit to get the
rest of your section going too maybe. And watch for
Walter like a hawk...if he's getting a section up for T
I G E R S...get your section up too. Let's do this
man!!!
Well the only thing I'm disappointed about is the
fact that you didn't predict 4 points...then we would
have gotten at least three. See how this works...kind
of like asking for a raise...asked for $7/hr and I
easily got minimum wage. I say CC eliminates Minnesota
right away on Friday night. Kaput-Bang-vamoose. That's
how you make predictions. Forget the safety vave
win-and-a-tie stuff...that's for "pretty boys"
(wink-smile-Moo-ha-ha :-)

Randy
Hope your not dissapointed. I had predicted a 3
point weekend in Wisconson, only got two. Got the home
ice which is all that really matters. Look for CC to
take it in 2 games this weekend. Saturday night might
be better (closer) than Friday.
Bring a Hat!
This is an open message board...if you have any
thoughts on the power play, transition game or simply the
Kosher Hot Dogs served behind section 104 at the CSWA
feel free to post them here! Don't be afraid!
CC can make even more strides after going from
the middle 20's in PWR to the field of 12 this
weekend when they just so happen to play the one opponent
in the country that can help them the most.
Minnesota has the best "opponents winning percentage" in
the Nation which will really help the Tigers
"opponents-opponents winning percentage" a lot.

Check out the
PWR link by clicking "links" in the frame on the
left.
I am not from San Carlos, CA most of you should know. I don't know what the heck
Yahoo! did but they obviously confused me with some California boy. That would
suck.
We need to blow the roof offa da joint this weekend in the playoffs. The Tigers
need a miracle to make the NCAA's...let's break new ground for rowdiness at the
CSWA!
