Hi All,
I'm a 35 year old female in Lacey. I really would like to find a
riding partner who is interested in training for the STP. I ride
about 15 mph and am out of shape right now... holidays, birthday and
all :)
I was riding solo last year and then had a scare, and am now cautious
about riding alone.
I can ride in the evenings and weekends... and feel I'm just a hair
too slow for the group ride on Saturdays.
Please email or call if you are interested.

Transportation Lobby Day
Tuesday, February 6, 2007 – all day
110 11th Ave SE
(11th and Capitol Way)
Join with the Bicycle Alliance of
Washington, Transportation Choices, Sierra Club, Feet First, and many
other non-profits for the first annual healthy, transportation Lobby
Day. (The specifics of the day will be posted at
http://www.bicyclea lliance.org in early January.) Our priorities include:
1) Increased funding and policies to support bike lanes and
sidewalks – a complete streets umbrella package. We’ll
pursue education and legislation opportunities.
2) Educate legislators about carbon assessments and greenhouse
gases.
3) Mobility education. Change drivers’ education to
include bicycle, pedestrian and transit education.
4) Work to revise State transportation goals with education and
legislation.
Additionally we'll support cell phone legislation. We'll also be
there to oppose any “bad” bills and support other legislation as
needed.
I'm riding tonight if there's any interest. Email me.
I think the Christmas light ride is off for this week. I may try to
pull it together for next week if the weather cooperates.

This is Blaine Wheeler asking for the Capital Bike Club -
The weather is interesting but I'm hoping for a break in it tomorrow afternoon -
We want to shoot a short video of people negotiating a Chehalis-Western gate tomorrow Saturday the 25th at 2PM.
I'm especially hoping for a trike, a recumbent and a couple of tandems but we also want regular riders. If you can help please phone me at 480-9855. We'll meet at the Chambers Lake trail head at 2. This should take about an hour. If tomorrow doesn't work out my fall back day is Sunday.
I know this is short notice. thanks for listening.
What a fall !! I just don't want to stop riding with the group. Some
of us are going to meet at Fishbowl after the Thursday night ride.
Let's hear it for gobal warming. Hope to see you there.

All,
I'll be switching to night riding as of tonight. Bill's (Tue/Thur)
ride is still running through the end of this week. I've decided to
make the switch because I end up riding home in the dark anyway.
I plan to leave my home in west Olympia at 6:30 tonight. If any one is
interested in joining me send email.
Regards,
-Tony
Well gang,
Once again I'll be riding on Tuesday/Thursday evenings once Bill's
ride ends (1st or 2nd week in October I think).
I plan to ride most of the same routes that we ride now with the
addition of the Chehalis Western Trail. I will on occasion have to
substitute this ride with a ride from my place of work in Dupont (work
responsibilities). But for the most part I expect to just continue the
Tuesday/Thursday night ride.
One change I'm making this year is that I don't plan to blindly meet
at the park. If you would like to ride with me on a given ride,
Please send email so we can arrange to meet.

Hi folks,
Bill announced tonight at the Tuesday ride that the Sunday morning
ride time is changing from 10am to 9am.
This is to better accommodate Bill's work schedule (I think). This
change will start with the next Sunday morning ride.
See you at (zzzzzzz) 9am.
A few words about Bananas . . .
Back in the days before power bars and goo we ate bananas and fig
newtons. Here are some banana facts.
*_Never, put your banana in the refrigerator!_*
*After reading this, you'll never look at a banana in the same way
again.
Bananas contain three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose
combined with fiber. A banana gives an instant, sustained and
substantial
boost of energy..
Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for
a
strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one
fruit
with the world's leading athletes.
But energy isn't the only way a banana can help us keep fit.
It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of
illnesses and
conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.
Depression: According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst
people
suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a
banana.
This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that
the
body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your
mood
and generally make you feel happier.
PMS: Forget the pills - eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains
regulates
blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.
Anemia: High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of
hemoglobin
in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.
Blood Pressure: This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in
potassium
yet low in salt, making it perfect to beat blood pressure. So much
so, the
US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry
to
make official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of
blood
pressure and stroke.
Brain Power: 200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school were
helped
through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast, break,
and
lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that
the
potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more
alert.
Constipation: High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help
restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without
resorting to laxatives.
Hangovers: One of the quickest
ways of curing a hangover is to make a banana milkshake, sweetened
with
honey. The banana calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey,
builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and
re-hydrates your system.
Heartburn: Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if
you
suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.
Morning Sickness: Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep
blood
sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.
Mosquito bites: Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try
rubbing the
affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it
amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.
Nerves: Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous
system.
Overweight and at work? Studies at the Institute of Psychology in
Austria
found pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food like
chocolate and
crisps. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the
most
obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report
concluded
that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our
blood
sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours
to
keep levels steady.
Ulcers: The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal
disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only
raw
fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases.
It also
neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the
lining of
the stomach.
Temperature control: Many other cultures see bananas as a "cooling"
fruit
that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of
expectant
mothers. In Thailand, for example, pregnant women eat bananas to
ensure
their baby is born with a cool temperature.
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Bananas can help SAD sufferers
because
they contain the natural mood enhancer tryptophan.
Smoking & Tobacco Use: Bananas can also help people trying to give
up
smoking. The B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and
magnesium
found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine
withdrawal.
Stress: Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the
heartbeat,
sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body's water balance.
When we
are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing our
potassium
levels. These can be rebalanced with the help of a high-potassium
banana
snack.
Strokes: According to research in "The New England Journal of
Medicine,
'eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death
by
strokes by as much as 40%!
Warts: Those keen on natural alternatives swear that if you want to
kill
off a wart, take a piece of banana skin and place it on the wart,
with the
yellow side out. Carefully hold the skin in place with a plaster or
surgical tape!
So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you
compare it
to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrate,
three
times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice
the
other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one
of
the best value foods around So maybe its time to change that well-
known
phrase so that we say, "A banana a day keeps the doctor away!"
_PASS IT ON TO YOUR FRIENDS_
PS: Bananas must be the reason monkeys are so happy all the time! I
will
add one here; want a quick shine on our shoes?? Take the INSIDE of
the
banana skin, and rub directly on the shoe...polish with dry cloth.
Amazing
fruit.
Hey, folks:
Many of you will recall that I crashed in a pretty dramatic way at the
Boat Street Criterium earlier this year. As it happens, my crash was
captured on film by a photographer who finally responded to my pleas
for copies of the prints. I received these last night, and offer them
here for your viewing pleasure (you morbid sickies, you):
<http://tinyurl.com/o8rgx>
There's nothing gory in them, and I find them fascinating. And not
just because they're about me! Enjoy!
My more recent crash in the Capitol Forrest went unrecorded, unless a
raccoon or possum paparazzi happened to be on the scene; none has
stepped forward as of yet.

Hello Erik and everyone:
I rode much of the route Erik describes last Saturday, and I'd like to
offer a warning based on my experience: if there's any moisture in the
air, the top part of the descent on D-Line can be VERY slick.
On Saturday I participated in the Seattle International Randonneur's
200k populaire, which started at the Fish Tale Brewery and proceeded
up Courthouse Hill, Waddell, and then Bordeaux. It was raining lightly
as the lead group climbed Waddell (this was at about 6:30 am, if you
are wondering when it rained that hot day). I was dropped by the four
riders I was with as we cleared the top of the hill at Bordeaux, on
D-Line, but believed that as I'm a pretty brave--if not
skillful--descender and have a local's knowledge of the road I could
catch them on the long descent to Oakville.
As the road levelled and then pointed downward, I flicked into top
gear and began to build speed, and entered the first fast sweeper at
30+ miles per hour. I was alone and had good visibility so could pick
out the perfect line, and expected to exit at close to 38 mph. That's
not what happened. The surface, wetted by the light rain we had
experienced a half-hour before, was slick as ice, and both ends of my
bike lost traction at the same moment. I kept calm, maintained a
two-wheel drift for what felt like a long time, and thought I could
save it if I didn't run out of road. Instead, I hit the tarmac and
slid for about 20 feet.
As a result I lost a fair bit of skin, shredded some expensive new
shorts, and destroyed my best gloves. My bike was mostly undamaged,
however, and I wasn't really hurt. I ended up riding to Oakville and
withdrawing there from the ride, then riding to Rochester and home to
Olympia.
Discussing the incident later with Rick Greewalt, he told me that it's
pretty widely known that the top part of that ascent remains so wet
that there's moss growing on it much of the year. So take it easy on
the first few turns! The road surface soon changes and the fauna
becomes less obviously rainforest-like, and you can let loose (minding
the occasional random pothole).
All my best!

Saturday- 7-29-06 Littlerock-Oakville and return, via (D-line) Capitol
Forest route and then a relatively flat return to Littlerock.
This is my backyard, so I'm happy to recomend this ride. If you
haven't seen the capitol forest by bike, this is an oportunity you just
can't miss. Shaded road, babbling brook, ok yes that does mean that
there will be hills, but hey you get to descend on the other side!!!
Hope to see you there!

Can someone tell me where the 5:30 Tuesday/Thursday group is leaving
from? I went down on Tuesday and, too late, remembered that Lakefair
was going on and the group wasn't there.
Thanks!

56cm Lemond Poprad Reynolds 853 cyclocross frame with a matching Surly Cross
Check fork. Powdercoated in orange 2 years ago. Just got a different frame for
commuting and rando riding. Powdercoat has som dings but the frame is straight
and true.
Selling the frame and fork for $250. I will throw in a canti hanger for the
fork if need be. The frame has a pump peg and a true canti bridge in the rear
installed by Bill Stevenson.
Hi folks,
Hey, the pictures that I took for STP are up on my web site. I
uploaded at full resolution so if you want, you can download and print
them.
Note: the high resolution may make screen paint slow (for sure with
dial up).
For those of you who took pictures, feel free to send them to me and
I'll post them as well.

I don't know about others but the CBC club ride this weekend is a fun,
flat 60 miles from Swede Hall to Elma for lunch at a restaurant and then
return.
The ride leaves from Swede Hall in Rochester at 10

I just started to ride a few months ago, and I would really enjoy meeting new people who I can ride with. I'm so new to riding that I still have not transitioned into clipless. Hopefully, I can meet some new folk who don't mind riding with a slow poke.

Dan Donahue at Providence is looking for volunteers to staff a hill climb and
XC MTB race for seniors out in Capitol Forest. 6-10 people are needed to help
monitor the course and side roads. Please contact Dan
(Dan.Donahue@...) for further details.
Well... I just bought a road bike last winter and I have only been on the road
three times. Will
anyone be riding this weekend and if so, would you mind a slow poke to ride with
you?
Ok CBC riders, for thouse of you who missed the Sunday ride, you can
form a ride and make my house the pit stop as I am hosting a party at
my house on the 4th, or you can ride early and stop by after for food,
games and fireworks.
Food will be available after 3 pm (BBQ, Hotdoogs, Burgers and all the
summer fix'ns), games will be available to play (right now it does look
doubtfull for the yard darts though, if you have a game, please contact
me) and fireworks after dark. It all ends when the fireworks are
depleated. This event will not provide alcohol, but I will have ice if
you need it to chill your favorite beverage, Pop, Lemonaide, water will
be available though.
If you would like to attend, plese contact me via email by 6-28-06 and
I will provide you with directions.
This will be a rain or shine event... I think my contingency plans
should be good enough for even a large crowd.
Hope to see you there.
