Info for some mapping workshop in Oregon....
A CBC member or two may have an interest in an inexpensive basic GIS
workshop for trail-riding applications. As a trail rider myself, I
have
started mapping, plotting, and imaging some logging/forest roads in
Northwest Oregon. I think that it would be a heck of a resource to
have
most of these accurately mapped with imagery, elevations, and
descriptions. Over time I will get many of these trails/roads done
for
NW Oregon, but will not scratch the surface in terms of covering just
this one region.
August 10th, with the cooperation of a Kansas company called Global
Mapper, I have arranged to provide a basic GIS workshop at the ODF
Forest Learning Center located about 20 miles east of Tillamook,
Oregon
on the Wilson River.
Since effective maps and graphics are good tools for recreation
applications in general, basic GIS is useful for mapping and
integrating GPS plots, route profiles and elevations, along with
currently available ortho-imagery. If you currently use
organizational
GIS expertise - bravo! Otherwise ...
The August 10 workshop is designed to teach basic GIS skills that
can
be useful for physical and recreational applications just about
anywhere. Participants will be provided free software and GIS data
for
professional/personal use, but must supply their own laptop computer
to
attend.
If you send me a request I will be happy to mail you a workshop
flyer,
but you may want to go on line for information and the registration
form
