An open pro laced to an ultegra using doublebutted
spokes laced 2X or 3X is a pretty decent wheel. I run
those on my distance bike (laced 3X with straight
gauge spokes). The rims take a lot of abuse.
The crane creeks are pretty good wheels too, but I
find that they can get hammered after a lot of
training rides (they are now my junk wheels).
The Mavics are nice, but you'll find that the bearing
life is limited. Or so I've been told.
