Week 5 Matchups and Predictions...(Remember, games are this Monday!)

Team 2 (Josh/Anna) vs Team 3 (Garrett/Colleen) - This matchup has no
bearing upon who finishes first in Pool A. With the pool title
locked up, Team 2 studs Josh Evans, Nick Hoppmann, Anna Handley, and
Emily Mitchell are playing for nothing more than respect. Team 3--
led by Ben Garrett, Colleen Gibson, Dave Barbeau, and Robbie
Timmerman--is looking to make the playoffs with a win here. If Team
3 can pull off the upset over Team 2 and Team 5 (Will/Amy) loses this
week, Team 3 gets the last spot of the playoffs due to head-to-head
matchup.

Prediction: A fired-up (albeit post-tourney knicked up) Ben Garrett
cannot be stopped; however, the handlers can be. Josh Evans and
company cruise to an easy victory, 10-5. Emily Mitchell scores more
goals than does Ben Garrett.

----------------------------------------

Team 4 (Kevin/Laura) vs Team 5 (Will/Amy) - This matchup can
potentially decide the playoff fate of The Fifth Element. Led by an
athletic group in Will Carmichael, Mike Cryer, Amy Cuthbertson, and
Sam Brown, the Fifth Element can win this game and move to 2nd in
Pool B or lose the game and finish 4th or 5th in the pool. The
health of Kevin Anderson and Matt Gaudrault will be a major factor in
this one. We all know Laura Wehlitz can and will come up big. But
how well will the supporting cast play? A loss for Team 4 means
falling as low as the 3rd or 4th seed in Pool A; however, due to head-
to-head matchups Team 4 will make the playoffs regardless of the
result of this game.

Prediction: With Kevin Anderson and Matt Gaudrault at less than 70%,
Team 4 loses a close one to The Fifth Element. With Sam Brown being
the healthiest player on the field (WHAT?!) and Brice Zimmerman being
able to put the deep ball (never thought I'd say that), Will
Carmichael and company pick up the win and don't allow themselves to
get leapfrogged by Garret's team in the standings. Team 5 wins, 8-7.

----------------------------------------

Team 7 (Goo/Puja) vs Team 8 (Walt/Pondy) - Yet another matchup with
playoff implications. Whichever team wins this one makes the
playoffs. The loser is slated to play in the "Best of the Worst"
game against the Pool A 5th seed. Team 7 aka Kazam!--led by Ben
Goodlett, Trevor Foley, Puja Dalal, and Kelly Stepek--can make the
playoffs if they can find a way to beat a wiley Kevin Pondy and
company. The edge in women has to be with Kazam! as both Puja Dalal
and Kelly Stepek are big-time players. Kevin Pondy--playing with The
Ocho--is clearly the best player on the field, but you can't huck to
yourself in this sport. Downfielders Walt Gerald, Sam Morse, and
Chris Wilson will have to step up their game to offset the woman
tandem of Kazam!

Prediction: Handling for Kazam! is perilous at best with Pondy
getting multiple handblocks and fast breaks; however, Puja and Kelly
are too much for the opposing women finding ways to score and get
extra offensive possessions. Kazam! finds a way to will out the win
and the last playoff spot. Kazam! over The Ocho, 7-5.

----------------------------------------

Team 1 (Cory/Lauren) vs Team 6 (Grayson/Katie) - With a win, Team 1
aka Off in the Shower--led by Cory Brown and Lauren Koch--can move up
as high as the 2nd seed in Pool A. With a loss to Team 6, Team 1 can
drop to as low as the 4th seed in Pool A. Team Bacon Sixxxxxx led by
Grayson Barton, Jeff Graiff, Katie Hull, and Bryan Sansbury can look
to overtake the Pool B crown with a win against Team 2 and a loss by
The Spartans (Team 9). A loss for Team Bacon Sixxxxxx means
remaining the 2-seed in Pool B.

We've got some interesting matchups in this one. Obviously, the most
anticipated will be good buddies Jeff Graiff and Mark Bennink going
at it with one another. Known for being a little belligerent on the
field, it will be interesting to see who wins the battle of the
hotheads. Cory Brown will likely pull Bryan Sansbury and vice-
versa. Will Cory the handler be a better matchup for Sans than Cory
the receiver? Will Grayson Barton make his teammates better by
feeding them the disc in places where they can do something with it?
If Denise Routhier shows up, the best matchup on the field may be
Denise versus Amber Nalley. With speed and then some, look for lots
of extra possessions and hucks to women. Lauren Koch and Katie Hull
as the undercard matchup ain't too shabby either.

Prediction: Team Bacon Sixxxxxx--with nothing to lose or gain--loses
this one after a number of players come back with some post-
tournament ailments. With Amber Nalley, Lauren Koch, and Renie
Willis all healthy, the women of "Off in the Shower" prove too much
and create extra offensive possessions. Team Bacon Sixxxxxx does not
beat Off in the Shower and loses 6-9.

----------------------------------------

Team 9 (Devin) vs Team 10 (Tom/Sandra) - With a win in this one, Team
9 (The Spartans) can take sole ownership of Pool B. Even with a
loss, if Team Bacon Sixxx manages to lose their Week 5 game the
Spartans will maintain the 1 seed. Regardless of the score in this
one, Team 10 will finish 3rd in Pool B and qualify for the playoffs.

What will happen in the most meaningless game of Week 5? Nothing too
exciting. With Tom and Sandra both benched due to injuries, we will
see what Chris Marrin, Matt Enright, and Stacy Maxwell have left in
the tank. If Matt Huff can prove to be as athletic as brother Will,
we may have a track meet in this one. The Spartans are an athletic
group and will seek to put the deep one early to Brett Basford, the
Connett sisters, Sean Leaks, and Marshall Walker. Rookie handlers
Harry Bartels and Amanda Eskridge will see plenty of playing time.
How they play compared to the handlers of Team 10 will be crucial.

Prediction: Ravaged by injuries and without any upward or downward
mobility in the pools, Team 10 will put up a valiant effort but will
fall short to the Spartans. Jackie Burgraaf will lead all females
with goals scored, and Brett Basford will do a back flip. Sparta
wins this one, 12-9. The Spartans will celebrate by buying Devin
some ice cream.
