OH MY GOD, CARLOS WON !!!!! He beat Baghdatis 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (3)
What a match!! Another 3-setter!
Carlos won the first set easily, racing ahead 6-1, then he lost the
second set 3-6, and was broken early in the third set, after a
dramatic incident when Baghdatis fell and looked like he twisted his
ankle - (an uncanny 'deja vu' of the time when Carlos himself twisted
his ankle in that final against Lleyton Hewitt in 2004).
Carlos immediately went up Baghdatis's end of court to see if he was
OK ... the doctor and physio came out on court and there there were
8 mins of time out, with Baggy's ankle getting strapped again; he
seemed OK, so play started again and Carlos got broken.
It was 3-1, then 3-2, 4-2, 4-3, 5-3, 5-4. With Baghdatis serving for
the match at 5-4 up, Carlos broke him back to level at 5-5. Carlos
then served to reach 6-5, but Baggy won his serve to make it 6-6!
Then it was the tie-break ... very tense, but Carlos made it to 6-3,
finally winning with 7 points to 3.
Amazing stuff! 2 hours & 27 minutes. A brilliant match!!
