Well, Carlos couldn't do it ... :-( He was beaten in the 3rd round
by 6th seed Nicolay Davydenko, 6-1, 7-5, 6-3. *sniff*
Ferrero was also beaten by Gaudio, who has to play Davydenko up next.
Short report:
Nikolay Davydenko proved too good for former champion Carlos Moya as
he laid down the gauntlet to the title favourites.
Davydenko was highly impressive as his dismantled the 1998 winner's
game to secure a 6-1 7-5 6-3 success.
If he continues in this vein, it will take a good man to stop the
Russian who made the last four in Paris 12 months ago and is now on
an eight-match winning streak.
He won a remarkable 50 per cent of the points on Moya's serve which
he broke no fewer then seven times.
Moya said: "I didn't expect to lose in the manner because I was
playing well, even though he's been very superior and I have nothing
more to add."
Next up for the sixth seed is another former champion in the shape of
Gaston Gaudio.
