At the 500th celebration dinner last weekend I proposed to the HASH group that we accept responsibility for raising funds to help a crippled child receive surgery that can enable him to walk.  His name is Deivis Hernandez, he is 18 months old, and he was born with two twisted feet.  He lives in the country and his family is very, very poor.  He has been evaluated by the doctors at Fundacion Hospital Ortopedico Infantil here in Caracas.  His surgery and hospitalization will cost approximately BS 5,000,000.  He needs this surgery immediately if he is to learn to walk normally.  I am trying to arrange for the mother to bring the boy to the hospital next week.

Thanks to the generosity of many HASHers that weekend, we have already raised nearly BS 2,000,000.  Several more have made pledges, and I would like to encourage all other HASHers to participate in this very worth cause.

I will be at the Marriott on Thursday night and can receive donations then.  You can also deposit directly into the c. c. account of Andre Mortimer, Banco Mercantil # 0105002144021496154.

Many, many thanks to all of you.

On, On!

Bea Sargent, (Enigma)
