Equinox means equal day & night;
12 hours each. On the vernal (spring) equinox, the sun crosses the equator ...
on it's way to warm the lands of the north.

Hare:
  Eivind (run) & Anne/Jay (walk)

Date:  Wednesday, March 22nd

Time:
7:00pm for a 7:30pm start

Location: Rincon Bar in El Rosal
                   (click here for printable map)

Trivia: The equinox is a big day for many religions and especially to those who adore the Virgin Mary.  If a child is conceived on this equinox, it will be born at Christmas... hmmm, it will be an interesting challenge for the RA/Hare to relate this to the hash. Also, Easter is scheduled on the Sunday which follows the full moon which follows this equinox... got that?

Hash Insight:
This event is for adults & older children who want a good workout; either walking or running.  We will have a storage place for towels & dry clothes; rain or shine!

Costs:
  "Non-Food Hash" Charge =  10kBs for adult males & 5kBs for adult females.

Contact:
Fredy (lives above Rincon): 0416-803-9019;
                  Iain (seems to live at Rincon :) 0412-630-6249

When and why the vernal equinox happens
(grab a beer if you decide to read this):
The seasons of the year are caused by the 23.5º tilt of the earth's axis. Because the earth is rotating like a top or gyroscope, it continually points in a fixed direction, towards a point in space near the North Star. At the same time, the earth is also revolving around the sun. During half of the year, the northern hemisphere is more exposed to the sun than is the southern hemisphere. At noon in the north, the sun appears high in the sky during summer and low in the sky during winter. The time of the year when the sun reaches its maximum elevation occurs on the day with the greatest number of daylight hours. This is called the summer solstice, and is typically Jun 21 -- the first day of summer. The lowest elevation occurs about Dec 21 and is called the winter solstice -- the first day of winter, when the day time hours are at a minimum. Almost exactly half-way between the winter and summer solstice is the time of the vernal (spring) equinox. It is one of two times during the year when the daytime and night time are almost exactly 12 hours long.
