Hey Cansecoites...
I finalized a deal with Total Sports Concepts (the company with the
exclusive rights to distribute autographed Canseco memorabilia), and I am
now selling authentic Jose items from Canseconet.com for at least 20% off
of their retail prices! I'm selling autographed balls, bats and shadow
boxes. All items come with TSC's digital "Tracercode" so you KNOW they are
authentic. Head on over to Canseconet.com and see if there's something
you're interested in!
As someone who has purchased things from Fogdog.com in the past, I was sent
an offer to refer my friends to their site. I can send up to 25 $10 gift
certificates to people to use towards anything Fogdog sells (sporting goods
mostly). Since I can only send 25, I figured I'd offer them to those of
you who are interested. If you want me to send you one, just send me an
email with your email address, and the $10 gift certificate will be on it's
way.
Jose has been playing pretty well lately - he even hit a game winning homer
the other day. All the latest news is below.
Talk to you later...

From the St. Petersburg Times:
Rays power past Yankees
By John Romano, Marc Topkin
March 14, 2000
ST. PETERSBURG -- It was a perfect spring day . . . for everyone not named
Steinbrenner.
Jose Canseco drilled a game-winning, two-run homer off closer Mariano
Rivera in the eighth inning as the Devil Rays beat the Yankees 8-6 before a
record crowd Monday at Florida Power Park.
"You had a very good home run hitter against a very good power pitcher,"
Yankees manager Joe Torre said. "And the home run hitter won."
The game was meaningless, of course. Everyone agrees with that. Except,
perhaps, Yankees owner George Steinbrenner.
Torre said he does not try to impress upon the players that Tampa's most
celebrated resident wants a good showing against Tampa Bay's major-league
team. But Torre did pull a spring rarity by bringing most of his regulars
ona road trip.
"It's tough to tell a team that's been in three of the last four World
Series that this game in March is really important," Torre said. "They'll
do what they normally do. There's just more of them here doing it."
That included Rivera, perhaps the most effective closer in the AL. Rivera
said he never had given up a home run to Canseco before Monday. Canseco
said that was an understatement.
"That was the first time I've made contact off him," Canseco said.
Canseco said he enjoyed the at-bat against Rivera, if only because the
right-hander was willing to challenge him with fastballs. Canseco typically
sees a streak of off-speed pitches.
"That was amazing. Two fastballs in the same at-bat," Canseco said. "The
first fastball was a little up, but I got a good swing on the other one."
Torre made no excuses for Rivera.
"He got his a-- kicked," Torre said. "But I've got a feeling Rivera will
have a minimum of bad outings this year. And I prefer they all be down
here."

From the NY Post:
Jose Canseco's two-run homer in the eighth came off Mariano Rivera and
surprised the Devil Rays' DH. Asked if he had ever homered off Rivera
before, Canseco said, "It's the first time I have made contact."

From CBS Sportsline:
Player Ratings - Designated Hitters
Ratings Provided by Ultimate Sports Publishing
1. Rafael Palmeiro - He'll be eligible at first base in most leagues, and
that's where the Rangers intend to play him if his knee is willing.
Palmeiro, who played 128 games at DH last year, already has more home runs
in his 30s than he had in his 20s.
2. Frank Thomas - You know things are going bad for Thomas when Greg Norton
hits more home runs than he does. One bad season was an aberration, but two
bad seasons is beginning to look like a trend.
3. Jose Canseco - Jose's a dynamic run producer when healthy; you just
can't count on him. He's reached 500 at-bats only once in the past eight
seasons. He had 31 homers and 69 RBI in the first half last year....

From the AP:
DAVENPORT, Florida -- Jose Canseco, Fred McGriff and Quinton McCracken
drove in two runs apiece to lead the Tampa Bay Devil Rays to a 7-4victory
over a split squad of Kansas City Royals in a Grapefruit League game....

From the AP:
ST. PETERSBURG, Florida -- Esteban Yan continued his remarkable spring with
five solid innings and Jose Canseco had two hits and an RBI, leading the
Tampa Bay Devil Rays to a 4-1 Grapefruit League victory over the Detroit
Tigers.
