Hey everyone,
Jose had a big day today, going 3 for 4 with 2 homers. His only out was a
fly ball to deep right field. Jose's 2001 numbers are looking pretty good
now. After 56 ABs, Jose is batting .286 with 4 homers and 10 RBIs. His
slugging percentage is a respectable .554.
This was Jose's first multi-homer game since June 14, 1999 - a game I
attended in Chicago, actually. Canseco now has exactly 450 career home
runs. Since he is only 50 away from the magical 500, I thought I would
share some interesting facts I've compiled. Of Jose's 450 regular season
homers:
130 have been during day games
320 were hit at night
212 were hit at home
238 were hit on the road
321 were hit off of right handed pitchers
129 came against lefties
236 were solo shots
143 were 2 run homers
65 were three run homers
6 were grand slams
85 were hit on Fridays
71 on Wednesdays
69 on Sundays
67 on Saturdays
61 on Tuesdays
50 on Mondays
47 on Thursdays
75 were hit in the first inning
16 in the second
74 in the third
45 in the fourth
53, 55, 48, and 48 in the fifth through eighth innings
30 in the ninth
4 in the 10th
1 in the 12th and another in the 14th
Jose has hit more home runs against the Red Sox (42) than any other
team. Next on the list:
Blue Jays (41)
Rangers (40)
Angels (36)
Yankees, White Sox, Orioles and Twins (35)
Notice how Jose seems to beat up on his ex-teams...
Jose has 33 two homer games and 2 three homer games. Of the 413 games Jose
has homered in, his team has won 268 (65%) of them.
I have seen Jose hit exactly 6 homers in person - two in Baltimore, one in
Toronto, and three in Chicago.
I added a few new photos to Canseconet.com today. Enjoy!

From the AP:
(Today's homers were actually Jose's 3rd and 4th of the year)
CHICAGO -- Jose Canseco was acquired to add some power to the Chicago White
Sox lineup, and he did just that on Sunday.
Canseco homered twice and drove in three runs as the White Sox defeated the
Pittsburgh Pirates, 9-2, in the rubber game of a three-game interleague series.
It was the 35th career multi-homer game for Canseco, a six-time All-Star
and the 1988 American League Most Valuable Player who began the season with
the Newark Bears of the independent Atlantic League.
In search of a power hitter after Frank Thomas went down with a
season-ending injury, the White Sox signed Canseco on June 20. He hit his
second and third homers of the season Sunday, slugging a two-run blast in
the third and a solo shot in the seventh off starter Todd Ritchie (5-9).
Ironically, Canseco's last two-homer game came at Comiskey Park as a member
of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays on June 14, 1999.
Sean Lowe (4-1), making his second start in place of the injured David
Wells, pitched eight strong innings, allowing one run and six hits. He
walked none and struck out one.

From the Sporting News:
Anything you can do: Sosa, Canseco each hit two
Slamming Sammy Sosa smacks two home runs off Jose Lima (pictured),
including his 29th of the year, but Kerry Wood can't make the lead stand up
and the Cubbies go on to lose 9-6 to Detroit. Meanwhile, that other
Chi-town slugger -- Jose Canseco -- rips two of his own, but his pitcher
makes them stand up in a 9-2 win over Pittsburgh. White Sox starter Sean
Lowe scatters six hits over eight innings for the win.
