Hey Canseco fans,
As expected, the Yankees did not pick up the $4 million option on Jose's
contract for 2001. I know I'm glad that mess is finally over. So, what's
next? I have NO idea. All I can I say is that I hope Jose ends up on a
team that needs a full time DH. Don't worry, if I hear anything, I'll let
you know...

Yankees decline Canseco's option
November 9, 2000
NEW YORK (AP) -- Jose Canseco's $4 million option for next year was
declined Thursday by the New York Yankees, who decided to pay a $500,000
buyout.
Canseco, 36, started the season with Tampa Bay, and was claimed on waivers
Aug. 7 by the Yankees, who wanted to block him from going to another contender.
Third among active players with 446 homers, the designated hitter batted
.252 this year with 15 homers and 49 RBIs in 329 at-bats.
By declining the option, the Yankees made him eligible for free agency.
New York is expected to exercise its $1.5 million option on outfielder/DH
Glenallen Hill.
