Ocean Rodeo Introduces the world’s first SURFING DRY SUIT!
The World’s First Surfing Drysuit; The Pyro Surf!
Victoria BC – January 15, 2007 – Ocean Rodeo Sports the world leader
in extreme watersports drysuits proudly introduces the world's first
surfing drysuit! Incorporating revolutionary Dry Core ™ technology,
this dual layer Surfing Drysuit sets a new standard in cold water
surfing performance.
Dry Core technology is based on patented dual membrane technology. A
form fitting outer stretch layer delivers a wrinkle free streamlined
surface for fast swimming and incredible mobility, while at the same
time offering abrasion protection to the inner Dry Core. Built with
time tested polyurethane coated nylon, latex neck, wrist and ankle
seals Dry Core is sealed closed with a dive grade dry suit zipper
guaranteed to keep the water out. With the two layers working in
unison, the stretchable outer layer regulates trapped air from within
the dry core, allowing for easy duck dives and fast swimming.
At less than .05mm thick and made of two independent layers, this suit
offers an unlimited range of motion unparalleled by any traditional
neoprene suit now available. Almost completely eliminating any wetsuit
related resistance from thick restrictive neoprene.
Dry Core Suits, worn with the appropriate thermal undergarment, are
half the weight of wetsuits designed for similar water conditions.
Lighter weight results in less use of energy and greater performance.
Dry Core Technology provides a dry barrier against the elements. What
you wear under the dry layer keeps you warm! Think snowboarding or
skiing, you match your undergarment to the conditions you will be
facing.
The Dry Core bladder will not absorb water. When wearing a wetsuit,
second sessions are ruined by the torture of suiting up again in a
heavy, wet and cold wetsuit. With Dry Core just shake the dry suit a
few times and go. Feels like your first time every time!
The two layers of Dry Core easily separate for servicing by means of
Velcro fastening strips found at the wrists, ankles and zipper.
Dry Core Technology eliminates the cold freeze, chill, restriction and
excess buoyancy found with traditional cold water neoprene wetsuits.
Rigorously tested in the frigid waters off the coast of Vancouver
Island BC, Canada it’s safe to say cold water surfing will never be
the same again.

The wind was light for my snowboard so lucky Brent did most of the
testing with the Bularoo on his telemark skis. I will let Brent report it.

Mud lake felt large when you are on it and would be wicked for night kiting.

Attached is some frames of the videos we took.

How about Thunder Bay (the head of Lake Superior). Our
snow kiting season started at the end of November. We
have several kiting spots including on the largest
lake in the world, very scenic and constant winds.
Although we dont have any open spaces with vertical
sutitable for kiting, we do have several ski areas
with a slightly higher vertical than Blue Mountain.
There is also a large resort in Minnesota, just over 1
hour away (Lutsen resort). It has the highest vertical
between the Laurentians and the Rockies (1000 feet).

Westjet flights leave daily from Toronto, $250-300
return. Flying time is 1.5 hours.

Stan,

For Quebec, try north of Quebec city.

The Concept Air folks are in Chicoutimi (2 hr north of Quebec City).
You may want to contact them directly.

Mont St Anne is .5 hr from Quebec city; however, I am not sure whether
there is good kitesnowboarding area with good vertical.

When I was in Whistler around 1997, I remember there were some nice
snowy areas with some interesting vertical.

Hung.

I am in the process of updating http://kitesurfingschool.org during the
holiday season (probably take me a whole month to complete)

During the process, I found that there are so much noises on the net
that make it very difficult to get to the right info.

So I worked with some Google tools and make a custom search engine
searching around 60 dominant kite related sites including all major
manufacturers, information and discussion sites. With such engine, one
can simply enter simple terms like "Vegas", "Torch", "inflatable",
"Bularoo" and find only the kite related info.

Check it out at http://kitesurfingschool.org/search.htm

Enjoy and let me know of any additional sites you may want to include in
this engine (to check whether a site has been included, just search for it)

Hung.

Ken,

It was officially permitted to kite on experimental farm a couple years back.

Then they changed the rule.  Now it is not officially permitted to kite there; however, quite a few still do.

The water should freeze over by mid Jan.

Sorry for my over eagerness, it's just been a damn long time since I've been able to get some kiteboarding in. And at this point it doesn't look like I'm going to see any worth while conditions around Kingston for a while. Maybe i should just buy a dry suit.

Still looking for good days...

Keswick Dec 24th was a good 3hr session.... Con, The water is colder than Lake
Ontario...
Pro, it freezes for snowkiting...

It was a sunny day and the grass was still quite green.

Some hope for hard core kiters... Maybe get an East day in Toronto soon...

Fellow Canucks

My buddy Bruce and I were out Dec. 23 and 24th here on Wolfe Island.
It was 7c and 5c respective. Not exactly warm but we did 1 session
each day 2hrs plus. On the 23rd I was on a 10m pl venom and 24th a 16.

Wit global warming apparently being a reality I think a good drysuit
like OR pyro is a good investment. For me only my hands were cold and
now I need some gloves that compliment the pyro.

One good thing when its this cold is there are not any crowds ;-)

Seasons greetings

I'll try again......can anyone in Ottawa let me know if you have
any snow? I had heard a rumour that you got quite a dumping on
boxing day. Any rideable spots?

Thanks,
Ken

More photos of today kiting.

Check the water surface and you can more or less guess the wind speed.

We used to kitesnowboard or kiteski in this same area this time last year.

The "Gung Ho Master" Brent went out again this afternoon in his 12mm
Neoprene (he is too fat for my Gyro Pro) and the school 11m Rastaroo.

Consider the size of small size of the kite and the somewhat light wind,
Brent made some huge jumps and very smooth 360's (unfortunately it was
too cold for my camera and the battery ran out quickly so I missed some
of the huge jumps).

Some photos attached (you will see some ice on some rocks near shore in
the first photo).

P.S., This Rastaroo 11m is amazing for its size...

Hung.

One of our instructor, Brent was out kitesurfing this afternoon testing a 11m Waroo 2007.

You can see the ice on the rocks near shore in the attached photo.

So far this year has been so warm. One of our instructors will
attempt
to kite on water today (he has done it last Sunday).
We are talking about going out kiting on Dec 25 dressing up in
Santa suit.

We have ice in Keswick at the lower end, 2.5" to 3" out front of Walter
street.. but no snow. about six of us out today on skis on glare ice... I am
ok with a small amount of snow for now, we need to build more ice to get a
good base. anyways lets all pray for snow of the next couple of week..

BTW.. first of the season jumps on ice really hurt.... lol

Hey,

Just wondering if there is any rideable snow in Ottawa yet? If so
where do you folks ride?

Thanks,
Ken
