On Saturday (Aug 23) at Britannia beach, my impact vest went missing:
NSI, black, side zipper & 2 buckles, size large, red sheath with
cutaway knife in upper breast pocket. If found or know of its
whereabouts, pls leave me a msg at 282-6176.
Thx,

Hi All:
While I was out looking for my board this morning at Allenwood (Thanx
VERY much for the posting, Paul!), I found a Da Kine spreader bar on
a black strap. It looks pretty new. Let me know if it's yours and
we'll figure out a way to get it back to you pronto.
Cheers!
Nadina

Hey everyone, Nadina forgot her board at Allenwood (Wasaga) late last
night. She got to Allenwood this morning at 10 am and the board is
nowhere to be found. The board is a "WHITE UNDERGROUND 130" - the
only one in Ontario! If anyone finds or sees someone riding it please
explain to the person that it belongs to Nadina. We are a small
community of kiteboarders in Ontario and I am positive that we will
find her board. Please keep an eye out for it.
Thank you.

Thanks very much for the detailed info! I'll be staying at a
cottage about 15 minutes from Little Current on the mainland. It's
pretty rocky around there with a lot of trees. I'm probably going
boat around the north end of Manitoulin and see what I can find.
West Bay seems like the best bet at the moment. I'll post a review
if the wind cooperates and I make it out there. Thanks again.
Paul.

West bay Is the spot I found we had a north wind one day so i looked
around and found it. There is a public beach area on the west side
of the bay it is fairly shallow along its shores around the bay with
trees back a 100' or so so its not so intimidating if the wind
fails, wind I had was 12-15 knots which generated 2-3' swells with
only breakers close to shore water was warm even thou it had that
chilly blue colour as you work your way further out the bay.
I'm sure ther are alot of other great spots around there you just
have to look around a little. Biggest problem is they need to have
some tree removal the Island just has way too many too close to the
shores. One other spot that looked ok was on mindemoya lake on the
west side off monument road, shallow with a few weeds which made me
look to west bay, it faced east.North of little current has a few
interesting looking spots too if you are not affraid of rocks. Some
even look like they have some flatwater potential.
It would be a geat place to visit in the winter you have endless
lakes to kite on and basically deserted.
If you see the old guy sitting in his lawn chair second from the
end in a row of 10 or so lined up across his lawn just on the
outskirts on mindemoya, he's not dead I honked the third time I
passed him sitting in the same spot three days

Anyone have any suggestions for nice kiting spots on Manitoulin?
The only place that comes to mind would be Providence Bay, although
I haven't been there for years. Something on the north side of the
island would be a lot more convinient also. Thanks. :)
Paul.
I live in the Ottawa area, I'm taking my wife for a nice little 4-5
day trip during the week (less people I hope).
She does not mind where, as long as it is close to the water
and "nice".
Of course Sandbanks is where we both want to go but are they any
kites allowed? And are any places availble?
I'm really looking for a place where I can find some wind seeing as
Ottawa has been absolutly dead since the start of the summer. I just
started the sport and I want to have some wind! :-/ .
BTW, if anyone knows of a secret spot in the Ottawa / Gatineau area,
do tell :)
Can anyone tell me how can I obtain a copy of the " Kiteboarding
Manual " produced by IKO and distributed by BIC Sports ? Amazon and
Indigo sites do not sell the book.
Thanks ... Julian

Thanks for posting the pictures John.
The event was a lot of fun. After 20 straight days of good wind we
had lighter winds for the event, but still enough for some good
kiting. And a good time was had by all. Thanks again to Josh for
organizing it.

This weekend is the Fly to...Red Bull King of the Air
Qualifier on Hatteras Island. I just checked the NOAA
weather and the forecast is for SW 10-15 all weekend.
It should make for a REAL good event.
Everyone is invited to join us at our Waves Lesson
center to see some sick air being had by some of the
best riders around. There are still a few spots for
competitors too. The winners get free airfare and
accommodations for the finals in Hawaii.
I hope everyone comes to check it out.

I doubt size matters, although you will get some pull with the 2.5
meters giving you a little dose of what is coming with bigger kites.
If you are not in the hurry to kitesurf, take up Snowkiting in the
winter. Once spring comes along you'll have kite control down and all
you'll have left is how to be on a board in water.
BTW, snowkiting is alot easier to learn.

What size of trainer kite should a total newbie buy.
Some places offer 1.5m kites while some 2.5m. Is bigger better, I'm
200+ lbs.
Any brand better than others, things to look for?
Any particular video to buy?
Are there lessons available in fall?(Greater Toronto Area)Should I

Good day Daniel-Son,
Ed here. Just wondering if you could provide me w/ a list of your
gear for sale along with respective asking prices? In regards to
2004 gear, will you or do you rep for Cabrinha? I'm really impressed
with their Recon system from what I've seen on the net. Spinning
bar, front-line release safety with the ability to blow the safety
w/o having a spagetti dinner afterwards.
Please get back to me re the 2003 gear, and if you have any good
inroads for 2004 gear. Hope your kiting summer's doing better than
mine over the last couple of weeks. I guess Tarifa must have stole
all the wind since it's been blowing 50+ mph over there for the last
few weeks.

Assistant Instructor Training Program
If you do not have prior teaching experience yet want to attend an
ITC, or if you simply want to experience to a certain extent what teaching
kiteboarding is about, then you can become an assistant instructor.
The assistant instructor program gives skills in teaching,
organization and equipment setting as well as a real idea of what teaching is
all about.
Candidates wishing to become assistant instructors must be at least
18 years old, be certified as an IKO kiteboarder level 3 and be able to practice
in up to 25 knots in different water conditions, be capable of self rescue, hold
a valid first aid certificate or CPR, and have a boat license or equivalent
skill if no license is required in the country.
The training of the assistant lasts for a minimum of 3 days, and
continues until the necessary skills are mastered, under the supervision of an
IKO instructor level 2. The assistant instructor can also validate the level of
students until level C in accordance with the IKO standards, always under the
supervision of the instructor level 2.
For more information on the program, click here.

Tips
Tell me why...
I find it hard to pilot my kite with one hand.
You usually try to pilot with one hand to retrieve your board or to
prepare your water start.
The kite will be more stable if you position it lower in the wind
window. Placing your hand in the middle of the bar will help you keep the kite
in the same position and will give you better control over the piloting.
Remember that piloting with one hand requires both pulling and pushing of the
bar.
Do you know that...
We remember of 10% of what we read, 20% of what we hear, 30% of what
we see, 50% of what we hear and see at the same time, 80% of what we say and 90%
of what we talk about right after doing it?

Dites moi pourquoi...

Assistant Instructor Training Program
Dear Kiters,
To meet with the need of higher standards, more qualified and experienced
instructors, and providing useful help to ITC candidates that do not have
teaching experience, IKO has established the assistant instructors program.
The Assistant instructor program aims at:
- Providing the needed teaching, organization and equipment setting skills
to candidates wishing to participate in an IKO instructor level 1 training
- Increasing the quality level of teaching during the instructor training
level 1.
- Having qualified and responsible assistants working in your school
- Helping the school manager to reinforce its internal organization by
giving precise tasks to the assistant
Candidates wishing to become assistants can only be managed by an IKO
level 2 instructor.
The assistant book is available on line in the pro area. You may download
and print it for personal usage only.
