I've been at Prea beach in Brazil for a week now and the wind has been
well over 20kt from early in the morning to after dark. I've only used
my smallest kite a PL Venom 10m but could have used a smaller one such
as a Venom 8. Haven't had my V13 out yet! The wind is easterly on an
E-W shoreline. Slightly offshore until 8-10 a.m. then parallel to, or
slightly onshore for the rest of the day. Sunny every day but pleasant
temp and humidity and pleasant nights with no mosquitos.
Apparently October is a low month so only one or two other kiters are
in my hotel Vila Prea. I'm here for two weeks but may stay longer :-)
Probably costing about $75/day cdn incl. food. They say it's full from
next month. The kite season is July thru Dec.
Minuses- It's a real pain to get here!! 11 hr YYZ to GRU (Sao Paulo)
then a long wait and 3 1/2 hr GRU to FOR (Fortaleza) then another
airport wait and about 5 hr by bus to Prea which is about 15 km short
of Jericoacoara (see wind on windfinder.com)
No sign of a rescue boat although you would eventually wash ashore as
the beach hooks out downwind of here. Bring a lifejacket and helmet
and good glasses/goggles for UV and sandblast protection. Mine have
already been lost in a crash 8<(
Rather isolated as you have to travel the last few km by beach buggy
or 4WD to get over the sand.
Not looking forward to the drysuit weather back home.
