Some of you may have already noticed but there has been a big change to
the Cambourne Cricket Club website. As well as a new look that
incorporates the club colours, it also offers a wealth of new features.
http://www.cambournecc.com
Thanks to Mr Tandy who contributed the new banner and for anyone
interested the Latin "Vincere delectando" translates to "to win through
enjoying oneself". This has been independently verified by Professor
Philip Ford, the Latin expert at Cambridge University!
Most of the content from the old website has been migrated across so news
and forum archives will still be there. Usernames and passwords are also
the same as the old site but if you haven't got a login as yet you can
register and get access to extra features. Feel free to login and
contribute to the discussions going in the forums and comment on the news
articles.
May I bring your particular attention to the survey on the front page
which we need as many members to complete as possible so we can show
evidence to the council that Cambourne residents want and would use
all-weather training facilities. Its only 3 questions so will only take a
few seconds and will go some way to getting our application approved.
http://www.cambournecc.com/?q=node/1006
May I take this opportunity to remind everyone about their membership fees
which are now due. Its especially important for members who didn't play
for us last year to fill in a form in good time so we can register them
with the CCA otherwise we can't play you in a competitive game. Bring a
cheque book along to one of our training or social sessions and we can
sort everything else out from there. Penalty match and training fees begin
from 3rd May.
Thanks
Stuart Charles
Club Secretary and Internet Geek
Hi All,
It's getting close to kick-off 2008 and the plans are rolling for the
Pre-Season Social Game, followed by a Warm-Up Game.
We will be running 2 x 20/20 matches this Saturday the 26th April, weather
dependant, Yes the same day.
* Get to Grounds for 12:30 for a few pictures/new hat presentations
and stretches
* Stuart will be co-coordinating pictures, so look pretty?
* Chairman will say a few words
* Charlie will want to do warm-ups
* And then we will play cricket in 2 Games
Sounds like fun, come along!
Game 1: Social Game
Start for 13:30
1st and 2nd Captains doing 1/1 random picking and announcing vice captains
(Based on 11 players per team)
The idea is everyone gets a bat and bowl
* Everyone to bowl at 2 over's (Keeper excluded) = 20 overs (If more
needed yah!)
* Batsmen to retire if reaching 25 (Can return if side is bowled out
in the 20 over's)
* Wides count as 2 Runs and don't get re-bowled.
* Overline No-Ball = free hit (only way to get dismissed is run out)
To be very much a social thing, getting back into the swing of things in
Game 1.
End of Game to have tea/dinner/lunch (Food) Meat is Eat. Still looking for
a volunteer to cook!
Game 2: Warm-up Game
After Tea/biscuits/fruit
Selection
* 1st Team Captain Mark Tandy to select who is likely to play in the
1st Team during the season.
* 2nd Team Captain Chris Cundell to negotiate with the 1st to balance
of players
The main difference is the team selection and process behind selection.
(We need to get this sorted ahead of the games in the season) The teams
need to be consistent, so the competitive ones can feel the stability
before we start the season. Also based on the performance on the day,
should give the captains an easier choice for the opening game on the 3rd.
Anyways, same format as above (Based on 11 players per team). Again, The
idea is everyone gets a bat and bowl
* Everyone to bowl at 2 over's (Keeper excluded) = 20 over's
* Batsmen to retire if reaching 25 (Can return if side is bowled out
in the 20 over's)
* Wides count as 2 Runs and don't get re-bowled
* Overline No-Ball = free hit (only way to get dismissed is run out)
And No FEES for the day!
Get back into cricket and play more!

A quick note to remind everyone that club training is from 6 pm sharp this evening...whatever the weather!!!
Again this week we have an umpiring workshop from 7.30 pm. Last week's was very good and we would like to see everyone there this week.
Finally a quick note of congratulations to Neil Thompson, Chris Cundell and Rishi Sharma. They have all passed passed the practical and exam sections of their ECB/UKCC Level 1 qualification. Well done to them all and I'm sure you'll all join me in welcoming them to the coaching staff at the club.
If you would like to consider taking a coaching course please let me know.
The committee are pleased to announce that Ollie Vale has
accepted the position of Colts' Captain for this year.
In the first instance Ollie will report into Chris T with
support from Mark and Charlie. He will also be the Colts' Representative on the
committee and we hope a valuable line of communication between the Colts and
us.
We are sure you will all join us in welcoming Ollie, wishing
him the best of luck and supporting him as best we can in this challenging new
role. He is taking up an important position of leadership at an exciting time
for the club.
On a side note, Cambourne resident and supporter of Cambourne
Cricket Club, Jacques DuToit,
who you may have met at the end of season party last September, is playing his
first game of the season for Leicestershire. You can track his progress on the BBC
website. He looks like being on good form already scoring 100 and 80 in his
first two warm-up games.
Kind Regards

high.
The day will begin with volunteers being split into smaller

Next up will be some Professional Attitude Development &

options which will be dealt with on a case by case scenario.

Club Secretary
This Wednesday 16th April at 6 pm we have our first club training night whatever the weather!
Hills' Rd nets have now finished and we will be moving to a program of square practice, drills and games.
For the next two weeks we have also organized 2 special umpiring workshops. These are a unique opportunity for the club to learn about the arts and skills of umpiring.
Presented by Frank Appleyard and a colleague from the Umpires and Scorers association these will both start at 7.30 pm and run for 1 hour with questions at the end. It is a two part course.
We would like to insist that all club members attend. This is a three line whip!
The ad hoc training that has happened so far has been great and this bodes well for the club nights.
I look forward to welcoming members both new and old.
At long last the season is upon us. Attached is spreadsheet of all the matches and planned events. These will be confirmed on a month by month basis.
We are looking for volunteers to help with each event. If you can spare a small amount of your time to help the club it will be great. It doesn’t have to be on a regular basis, any help is terrific. It takes a lot of organizing to deliver games of cricket for everyone.
Please contact myself or one of the committee if you can help. In particular we’re after a couple of BBQ experts to fire up the coals on match days!
The plan for the rest of April is below for ease
We have a couple of Colt's matches this month and it would be great to see senior players, parents and club supporters out in force. We have a really talented group of Colt's and it will be great for them to get as much support as possible.
Hello Leigh
Cricket Force is going to be on the 19th April but we are still finalising
the details. Possible activity ideas include....
Put net and wheels on net.
Some coaching workshops - Performance Profiling in particular
A BBQ
A 20/20 game
If anyone has any ideas then feel free to pass them on. Watch this space
for an official announcement soon.
On a side note, Chris Threadgold has booked 3 session at the MUGA to begin
junior training so that it won't clash with the end of the football
season. All junior age groups are welcome and i'm sure Chris would
appreciate any help from adults who are willing to help. Cost is £1 per
junior.
Thursday 10th April-5.45-7.00
Friday 18th April 7.30-9.00
Friday 25th April 7.30-9.00

One last reminder about the AGM THIS SUNDAY, 30th March at the Pavilion at
7pm. Please try and make it if you can and if you can stay on for the
curry after then that's even better.
There is also a reminder/notice from Charlie regarding practise tomorrow
morning and every Saturday morning until the season starts:
"Saturday training starts at 9 am whatever the weather! If it is
raining/snowing we will work in the pavilion on mental techniques and
tactics. Look forward to seeing as many as possible."
Please find attached the Agenda for this Sunday's AGM from 7pm. Note that
the meeting itself will take place at the pavilion and we will move on to
Chutney Joes once the meeting has finished.
I look forward to seeing you all there.

A week on Sunday (March 30th, 7pm) is the AGM and to encourage more people
to turn up we have negotiated a special deal for a social event at Chutney
Joe's straight after the meeting finishes.
£10 per head gets:
- Popadoms & pickles
- 1 x starter (choices include Bhajee, Samosas, chicken tikka, sag aloo)
- 1 x main course (choices include Tandoor chicken, Chicken Tikka masala,
Shashlik, Madras, Dansak, Korma and Jalfrezi)
- 1 x Pilau rice or 1 x naan bread
Please note that to make it fair on non-drinkers and drivers, all drinks
will be charged to individuals at the bar and not split at the end. I
think its an excellent deal and a great way to start off the season.
Please do make the effort to turn up - the AGM itself will be as short as
possible, lasting no more than an hour with a variety of speakers
presenting lots of exciting new developments in the club. To keep people
from falling asleep, Mark has even volunteered to forgo his usual
"constitution changes" slot. There will be a chance for questions but the
meeting will essentially be a presentation to club members.
On a side note, we seem to be missing one of the club's scorebooks from
last season so can you please have a look in your kitbags to see if its
there as its an important record of the club's history.
In addition, outdoor training has begun on Saturday mornings from 9.30am
at the ground in Lower Cambourne and will last from now until the season
begins, when we will revert to the usually slot on Wednesday evenings.
This will be more structured than our training in 2007 and will help
improve faculties such as fitness, balance and decision making as well as
the usual drills you might expect. This is in addition to the usual net
sessions at Hills Road that are still running on Tuesday nights 8pm - 9pm.

To be eligible to vote you need to be 16 or over on 30th March 2008 and a
member of Cambourne Cricket Club in
2007 or 2008. If you were not a member last season you can still vote if you
provide a membership form and annual fees along with your voting slip. The
membership forms and fees will be announced in the next few days.

Its been a while since the last email so thought i'd update you all on the
latest news.....
Last chance for nominating yourself for a committee position before voting
commences this Sunday and closes on the night of the AGM (30th March, 7pm,
keep it free!). We currently still have no nominations for a number of
positions including Fixtures Secretary, 3rd team captain, Fund Raiser and
U11 Manager so we would welcome any late nominations. Please contact one
of the board for further information.
The calendar is shaping up nicely with a packed summer schedule of games.
http://www.cambournecc.com/modules.php?name=NuCalendar . We are currently
trying to organise more friendlies, particularly in the 2 weekends leading
up to the first games at the beginning of May. If you know anyone that
might be able to offer us a game then please put them in touch.
Practise sessions are still as popular as ever although the excellent
Fenners session on a Saturday morning has come to the end of its booked
period. More club members have taken their training courses and this is
making a big improvement in the quality of the training sessions we can
offer. We will start running outdoor training sessions soon so watch this
space.
We are currently on the lookout for new members whether that be players,
umpires, scorers or helpers so if you know anyone who might be interested
bring them along to a training session.
All in all its all shaping up to be an exciting summer in 2008!
Hi

Good morning to all,
Thought I would let you know, that due to other commitments, I will be
unable to play cricket for Cambourne this season.
Currently I do not have the time to make nets on Tuesday night and nets
throughout the week when the summer comes.
I will pop over when I can when you boys are playing at home and will
still be arranging some twenty20.
I wish you all the very best for the upcoming season and look forward to
sharing a beer with you later in the year.
All the best.
Jim

Due to the difficulties everyone had parking last week at Hills Road I
have got the code for the car park on the right hand side of Purbeck
Road.
It is 5689# and I was warned that anyone who parks on Purbeck Road
itself
WILL get clamped.
Again, please try to car share if you can, the forum is a good place to
either offer or look for a lift.

Just a reminder that Hills Road nets start tomorrow night (5th Feb) from
8pm - 9pm, running for 10 weeks. All club members of any age group are
encouraged to attend. Cost will be £2.50 each per session.
It would be cheaper and better for the environment if we can try to car

- Hills Road nets begin from 5th February, 8pm - 9pm every Tuesday for 10
weeks.
Please take note of the press release below. You are all encouraged to
come along and make the day a success. The idea is to encourage people to
get back into playing a sport they may once have done a few years ago. It
would be great if you can bring along a friend, the kind that says in the
pub, "I wouldn't mind taking up cricket again" but never does anything
about it.
Note that anyone CC'd on this email needs to register on the new
distribution list asap or you will miss out on notices like this in the
future....
Cambourne Cricket Club in partnership with Living Sport’s ‘Get
Back Into An Active Lifestyle’ campaign is hosting a “kwik
cricket” event on Saturday 26 January 2008. The idea is to help
people get back into sport in a friendly, social and non-competitive
environment.
The event will be held at the "The Hub" Community Centre in Great
Cambourne from 3pm to 5pm. There will be chance to play “kwik
cricket”, which is played indoors with soft balls, and there will be
club officials present to offer coaching and guidance. There will also be
an opportunity to listen to representatives from the Cricket Club talk
about their sport and the virtues of being part of a club environment. All
ages are invited.
Charlie Stephenson, the Club Development Officer for Cambourne Cricket
Club, commented: ‘We are delighted to work in partnership with
Living Sport in this way. Sport is not only a great way to get fit and be
healthy, but it helps to build social networks and bring a community
together. This is particularly important in a new settlement like
Cambourne.”
Danny White, Chairman of the Cambourne Cricket Club, added: “I would
like to encourage all Cambourne people to attend this event, both young
and old, male and female. We want to put something back into our community
and to have as wide and diverse membership as possible. Kwick cricket is
also great fun and can be enjoyed by everyone, regardless of your ability
level.”
If you are interested in finding out more information on the event please
contact Charlie Stephenson on 07824 484424.

Road nets that have been booked every Tuesday 8pm - 9pm, begining 5th
February for 10 weeks. Both juniors and seniors are encouraged to attend
this session.
