Just a quick reminder that nets are still ongoing at Fenners in Cambridge, 8pm - 9pm tomorrow and every Tuesday until Christmas. Head Coach Mark Tandy is back from holiday and is planning to come along at tomorrows session so we will have use of the bowling machine for the first time.

http://www.cambournecc.com/winternets2010

Sam Miller's charity football 6 a side tournament is the evening of Friday 30th October and the Cambourne Cricket Club team is looking a little light with just myself, Mark T and Jonny A making up the numbers so far. Let me know if you are interested, shouldn't be too competitive and will be good fun.

Hope to see you around soon.

Stuart

Winter Nets restart tomorrow, Tuesday 6th October, at the world class indoor facility at Fenners, Cambridge (Gresham Road, free on street parking in the evenings) and will continue every Tuesday thereafter until Christmas from 8pm - 9pm.  After Christmas we have more sessions booked to take us up to the start of the 2010 season. All are welcome, including colts, and it is a good chance to stay in touch socially whilst giving you the opportunity to work on your skills for the next season. As those of you who have been over the past couple of seasons will agree, the facility at Fenners is superb with 3 nets and the use of the bowling machine (at sessions where Level 2 coach Mark Tandy is present) so take advantage and come along to as many sessions as possible. The cost will be £5 or £3 for those under 18 or still in full time education. Use the forum to arrange and share lifts.

On a separate note, Sam Miller is looking for a team or two to enter in a 6 a side football tournament at the Comberton Astro Friday 30th October 7-9 as part of his fund-raising for Mozambique. I think we should be able to get at least one Cambourne Cricket Club team together so contact me if you are interested. Cost is £5 per person and includes food.

Yesterday's demolition of "the kids" yesterday brings the 2009 season to a close...... but preparation for 2010 begins in just over 2 weeks from now as winter net sessions start at Fenners. Anyone is welcome and encouraged to come along, the facility is world class and is an excellent opportunity to work on a specific part of your game so you can be in top shape next summer. The sessions will be running every Tuesday 8pm - 9pm until December 15th, followed by a regular 2 hour session after Christmas. For those of you that don't know where Fenners is, its just off Hill's Road on Gresham Road, no48 on this map.

http://www.cam.ac.uk/map/v4/drawmap.cgi?mp=main;xx=2370;yy=1153;mt=c;tl=Fenner%27s

If you want to keep fit over the winter months then there is still a regular Monday night 6 a side slot at the MUGA from 8pm - 9pm. Cost is £2 and any standard of player is welcome, its very much a pick teams when you arrive and then have a bit of a kick around so all just a bit of fun. I'll be there tonight if anyone fancies coming down, just turn up at 8pm.

The summer may be nearly over but the club is already looking forward to another successful season in 2010. Tonight will be the last official outdoor training session but in less than a months time our winter net programme will begin which will keep us in the best possible shape over the close season ready for another drive for promotion next year. As per last winter, the nets will be held at the world class training centre at Fenners (just off Hills Road in Cambridge), which boasts 3 nets and a bowling machine. We haven't yet decided on how much it will be per person but it will certainly be more than last year as we have no funding in place and will have to cover the full hire cost.
  • Tuesday nights 8-9pm from 6th October - 15th December 2009
  • Thursdays 7-9pm from 7th January - 25th February 2010
  • Saturday Mornings 11am - 1pm March 6th - April 10th 2010
Sam Miller's Dad's vs Lads teams have now been filled but if you are around on Saturday please do make the effort to pop down to the ground to buy a cake and a raffle ticket or 5. It should be a fun game of cricket with the friendly rivalry of Dad vs Son spicing up the competitive spirit.

Callum is also orgainising a team for Sunday's social game vs the Monkfield Arms and there are still places available, contact him on c.healy@... if you would like to be included.

Another date for your diary is Friday 11th December when Callum has organised the club's official senior awards night and Christmas social at the Monkfield Arms. He has negotiated a fantastic deal with the landlord Duncan, £10 per person including food and 3 drinks. He's also looking to organise an outdoor shooting event (i.e. Paintballig!) around the same time of year so look out for more details soon.

First up, just to remind you that Sam Miller is organising teams for next Saturdays Dad's vs Lads charity game, so have a word with him this weekend or drop him an email on sam9miller@... if you want to be involved. Head Coach Mark Tandy has organised a coaching evening next Tuesday the 1st September, 8pm at the pavilion, for all those members who have expressed an interest in becoming a grade 1 or 2 coach. The idea is that Mark can explain what is involved and when the dates are so we can go ahead and book places over the winter months. Anyone interested is welcome and encouraged to attend as the more qualified coaches at the club, the better we will become and it is of course mandatory to have a good ratio of coaches to members to ensure we retain Clubmark status. In return you will gain a formal qualification (looks good on the CV to anyone thinking of choosing a sport related career path), learn new skills and give something back to the club as well as giving you the opportunity to become a better cricketer. Speak to Mark directly on 07949 839727 or mark.tandy@... for more information.

Other events coming up in the next few weeks:
  • 7 a side tournament at Royston on Bank Holiday Monday. Entry is £7 per person (no concessions), and there is a cash prize for the winning team. Contact me if you are interested.
  • Saturday 12th September - "Dads vs Lads" match, and an opportunity to raise money for a school Sam Miller is visiting in Mozambique. More details to follow soon.
  • Sunday 13th September - Friendly match vs The Monkfield Arms (and most likely an informal social event afterwards). Contact Callum Healy for more information.
  • Sunday 20th September - "Upstarts Vs Old Farts", a chance for those over 30 to prove that youth is no match for experience and a nice way to round off another excellent season of cricket in Cambourne.
Regards

Stuart

Hi

I am disappointed to have to report that at some point on Sunday someone has vandalised the net on our net cage by cutting the string with scissors or shears. We have reported the incident to the police and are insured but it is unlikely we will get a new net before the end of the season so we want to try and repair it as best we can. Therefore if anyone can lend a hand, please come down to the ground from 5pm tonight when we will be doing our best to knot up the broken net and we will also be putting up the temporary net as a temporary replacement for training.

Thanks

Stuart

We are delighted to be able to announce that the first competitive game of cricket will be played on our new ground in Upper Cambourne this Saturday as our 3rd XI take on Sawston IV. The ground was signed off on Wednesday after successfully completing 2 training sessions in previous weeks proving that the pitch was safe to play and indeed played much better than many other grounds we have visited this season. There is going to be more work required to get the game going in Upper Cambourne (e.g. moving scoreboards and equipment, putting up the gazebo etc) so an extra bit of help on the day would be much appreciated.

Here are the teams this weekend, will all players meet at the pavilion at 12.15pm, including those who are playing in the 3rds as we need to move equipment and tea facilities from the pavilion to the new ground.

As a change to the usual Wednesday night training session this week, we have a friendly 20:20 game organised against IP.Access. The game will be played in Lower Cambourne on the artificial pitch, starting at 5.45pm or as soon as we have enough players turn up. If you would like to be in the Cambourne team then please drop me an email on cccadmin@... or drop me a line on 07789 773797, but please make sure you are able to arrive close to the scheduled start time or else we won't have enough light at the end of the game.

Thanks

Stuart

Just another quick reminder that tonight's training session will again
take place on the new Upper Cambourne pitch. Format will be the same,
i.e. a 20:20 game which will start as soon as we get enough players at
the ground. Please try and get there as near to 5.45pm as you can to
ensure a prompt start.

Thanks for those who came along to the new ground yesterday, I'm sure you will all agree that the pitch played remarkably well and looks in great condition to play some cricket on later this season. We will do the same thing next Wednesday, weather permitting. If some of you could send me your own personal views as to how you thought the pitch played yesterday then we can feed back this to the contractors. (Just a one liner I can quote will be fine). This will give us more leverage when we approach them to play some competitive games later this month and in August.

Here are the teams this weekend, all players meet at the pavilion at the earlier time of 12.00pm, especially the 1st XI who will be presented with their Monkfield Arms sponsored shirts by the landlord Duncan.

Just a quick reminder that tomorrow (Wednesday) night, we will be having our first ever game on the Upper Cambourne pitch. We need you to be at the ground as near to 5.45pm as you can make it so we can get going promptly. Best place to park is probably at the muga just around the corner on Back Lane.

The format will be a 20 over 20:20, retirement score of 25 and maximum of 2 overs each (subject to numbers) so that everyone can get a game. 2 for wides and no balls with a free hit the next ball. You can't be out first ball unless you are run out. The first four who turn up and get padded up will be the opening 4 batsmen, the next 11 will be fielding with the rest being added to the batting line up in the order that they arrive.

With four games on this weekend we need lots of people available so please make sure you let the relevant people know.

Look forward to seeing you tomorrow in what will be an important day in the development of the club.

Regards

Stuart

A couple of things before I announce the teams. Firstly, next Wednesday and the following Wednesday (8th and 15th July) practice sessions will be held at our new ground in Upper Cambourne where we will be organising an inter club 20:20 game to enable us to try out the new wicket and prove that it is safe to play. Your support at these sessions will be much appreciated as it will enable the ground to be handed over for us to use by hopefully the end of this month and we will be able to fulfil some fixtures which we were struggling to find a ground for.

Secondly, our honourable Treasurer Mr Wilkinson has brought to my attention that the number of players who have "forgot" their match fees has increased considerably over the past few weeks. This is not acceptable and I ask those people who have a backlog of missed fees to pay the balance to Jonny ASAP.  We do our upmost to keep our fees as low as possible and £5/£3 is really not very much at all for a whole afternoons entertainment including food so please make sure you bring your match fees along to the game. ALL of the money you give goes back into the club paying for such things as teas, training equipment and ground maintenance. Jonny and I will be tracking payments closely over the next few weeks and consistent offenders may face disciplinary action e.g. non selection until the balance is paid.

Here are the teams this weekend, all players meet at the pavilion at 12.15pm. Sundays Lower Junior Cup game is a quarter final (even though we haven't bowled a ball in the competition yet!) so come down to the ground and offer the team your support.
