Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Cricket

ECB Coaching Assistant

The course is aimed at beginner coaches who will be able to ‘assist more qualified coaches, delivering aspects of coaching sessions, normally under direct supervision’. This role may include running warm ups, cool downs, small sided games and small group work. The course is essentially designed for parents and volunteers starting on the coaching pathway.

The course will help coaches prepare for, deliver and review cricket coaching sessions. It will enable them to:

§  introduce and develop the game of cricket to people of all ages in a safe and enjoyable way

§  develop and improve players (as people as well as cricketers)

§  develop coaching skills, knowledge and qualities

§  demonstrate competence against UKCC/National standards for coaches

The programme consists of 4 x 3 hour modules and a final assessment and is outlined below:

Course Outline

Prerequisites

First Aid

Good Practice Child protection

CRB

Text Box: Module 1
Introduction to Coaching

Text Box: Module 2
Using Games to promote learning

Learning Resources

ECB Coaching Cards

Coach Development DVD

Coach Workbook

Making Sport Fun Booklet

Code of Conduct publication

Text Box: Module 3
Developing technical skills using group coaching

Text Box: Module 4
Group Coaching

Multiple Choice Questionnaire

Text Box: Assessment

The following gives you a brief outline of each course module:-

Module 1 – Introduction to Cricket Coaching

This module provides an opportunity for coaches to get involved in practical coaching activities after discussing the ECB coaching philosophy and the types of skills required by coaches. Coaches have the chance to work on how they give explanations and instructions when running warm up activities.

Module 2 – Using Games to promote learning

Coaches have the chance to develop, modify and run small sided games in this module. One of the key roles of a coach is to make their sessions enjoyable and this part of the course highlights how coaches can achieve this.

Module 3 – Developing Technical skills using Group Coaching

During this module, coaches will have the chance to work on how to provide demonstrations of key technical skills. They will also undertake the role of the coaching assistant by setting up and running group coaching batting sessions.

Module 4 – Group Coaching

The final module allows coaches the opportunity to develop their coaching by running group coaching sessions on bowling. In addition, they will start the assessment process by running a group session for a small number of their peers.

Assessment

At the start of the assessment day coaches are asked to complete a short Multiple Choice Questionnaire. Once this has been completed coaches deliver a 15 minute coaching session to 6-8 peer group coaches followed by a debrief with an assessor where the coaching session and MCQ is discussed.

ECB tutors provide additional information at the start of each module and a course workbook may be used regularly throughout the course as an aid to learning.  The course programme is designed to be a learning experience and there are many opportunities to develop coaching skills in a supportive environment during the course.

The UKCC 1 Coaching Assistant course will aim to set solid foundations whilst ensuring that beginner coaches are equipped to provide players with enjoyable experiences when playing cricket.

With the new season just days away I'd like to remind members of the selection process, for the benefit of our new members in particular. To summarise, the onus is on YOU the members to let your availability be known to the captains by the Wednesday before the weekend of games. You can do this at the game the preceding weekend, at training on Tuesday or Wednesday nights or by email/phone.

Selection decisions are made by the team captains, with the 1st team captain having first pick, then 2nd team captain with the remainder being selected in the 3rd team. Its not always as black and white as the best players being in the 1st team and so on as compromises are made to make sure we get balanced sides out each weekend that can compete with the standard of opposition on the day. New players can expect to begin in the 3rd team and then work their way up depending on how they perform and availability on the day.

So to start the process off this season, can everyone please let the captains know their availability for the any games this weekend that they wish to be considered for selection. We have a 2nd XI home game on Saturday, a home friendly vs Little Paxton on Sunday and a home 20:20 game on Bank Holiday Monday starting at 5pm.

One last reminder that Club Day is tomorrow 25th April from 1pm at the Ground in Lower Cambourne. The format will be two consecutive 20:20 games and all members aged 14 and over are welcome and indeed encouraged to come along and take part. As we will be playing on the artificial surface, please bring your trainers rather than spikes. The weather forecast is currently heavy showers but assume the game is on unless there is a notice posted on the website stating otherwise.

If you can only make the second 20:20 game, I expect it will begin around 4pm.

Hope to see a good turnout tomorrow.

With the new season almost upon us, I'd like to remind members that the membership forms and fees are due now - I have received very few to date. For those players who haven't paid up by the start of the season, match fees will be charged at £10 as opposed to £5 until the annual membership fee is paid.

In addition, those members who are new to the club this season need to be registered with the CCA before they can compete in any league or cup game. As this needs to happen at least 4 days in advance of a game, your membership form and fee is even more urgent so I can enter your details into the CCA registration database at http://cambournecc.play-cricket.com/home/home.asp . To speed up the process please forward me your full name, address (including post code) and date of birth to me by email asap and I can pick up the form and fee at the next training session.

Full details of membership, including downloadable forms can be found at http://www.cambournecc.com/membership2009

A reminder that Club Day is this Saturday where we will play some inter club friendly games, all members and prospective members are welcome and encouraged to come along and full details will follow later this week. We also have a home friendly game against Bar Hill on Sunday so please let me know if you are available either by email or at training on Wednesday.

We are running some Tuesday night training sessions this season in addition to the usual Wednesday nights. The idea is that we have a smaller groups where we can practice specific skills in a more structured training environment, the first one of these sessions will be tomorrow from 6pm.

Tonight is the last indoor net session at Fenners but starting from tomorrow and from every Wednesday thereafter throughout the summer we will be beginning our outdoor training at the ground in Lower Cambourne from 6pm onwards weather permitting. For the first time we will also have a smaller, more structured training session on Tuesday evenings where players can come and practice specific skills in a more structured format. U15s will share both these sessions with the adults to ease the pressure on Sunday mornings and to give the U15s more confidence in playing adult cricket and allowing them to learn from more experienced players.

I will also be beginning to chase players for their membership forms / fees so please try and bring a chequebook with you to one of these sessions before the season begins. I will have forms available to fill in or alternatively you can print them off the website.

The colts are unable to make it to training tomorrow night which means we will have another extended senior training session between 7pm and 10pm. In the words of our 1st team captain and head coach Mr Tandy we are going "to practice our slogging techniques", items of specific training run by our experts in that specific field include:

1. When a straight bat just isn't enough (Sunil)
2. Hitting sixes over (or into the hands of) deep point (Marc)
3. Playing the reverse sweep on full deliveries hitting middle stump (Chris C)
4. Wafting at wides (Me)
5. Its never too late in an innings for a forward defensive (Steve H)
6. Don't let that gobby 15 year old wicket keeper get into your head (Marc)
7. There is a single available on every delivery (Simon)

Look forward to seeing you all there, and remember this is our penultimate net session of the close season before we start playing for real.

Don't forget your membership forms / fees as well, see the website for details http://www.cambournecc.com/membership2009

Just a quick ask for anyone at a loose end tomorrow (Saturday), we are having a bit of a photo shoot of players and the new artificial pitch so we can distribute a press release and are looking for club members to come and help fill the photo. If you can make it, please come kitted out in whites, the official club kit if possible. We aim to start at 10am. Hope to see some of you there tomorrow morning.

Also, please note that cricket force is next weekend, Sunday 29th March and is your chance to put something back into the club. Details are on the website.

http://www.cambournecc.com/natwestcricketforce2009

And for anyone still thinking of coming along to nets, they will be running as usual at Fenners on Tuesday nights up until and including 14th April so its not to late to come along and find a bit of form if you haven't been yet. From 21st April we will begin outdoor training every week. For U10s and U13s this will be the usual 10.30 am - 12 slot on a Sunday morning. To take pressure off the Sunday morning slot and to progress the development of our older colts, U15s will now train alongside the seniors. In addition to the usual Wednesday night session we will be running a Tuesday night slot which will be more specialised and structured, each one targeted towards improving a specific skill.

Hi, as it is half term and most of the colts are unable to make it to nets, seniors will again be given the opportunity to use the nets at Fenners for an extended 3 hour training session from 7pm this evening. As per the last time this happened, the 1st session will concentrate on 1-1 specific skills training with the last hour and a half proceeding as usual. The cost of the session will remain at £3 per person.

If you would like to come but don't have a lift then give me or someone else in the committee an email or call and we should be able to sort something out.

Should the roads be passable tomorrow night, we will be running a double
training session for adults at Fenners as there aren't enough Colts to make use
of the earlier slot. From 7 - 8.30pm our coaching team will be running some
one-to-one coaching and/or bowling machine sessions, with the 8.30 - 10pm slot
running as usual. Cost is just £3 per person and its a great opportunity to
improve a specific batting or bowling skill that you might have struggled with
last season.

Dear Ed,
Would you mind to ask around your club and find out if they have picked up any equipment that doesn't belong to them please? One of our UCCE guys left his bag in the hall last night after their session and before yours and some of his equipment is now missing. I know how easy it is to pick up equipment that is lying around!

Please note that indoor nets are still ongoing at Fenners; 7pm - 8.30pm for U15s
and 8.30pm - 10pm for adults. Attendance has been pretty good but would be great
to see a few more faces. As an added incentive, it has been agreed by the
committee that from this week onwards, the cost of nets be reduced to £3 per
person, which is great value. Being a World Class training facility, it costs
much more than we can make at this price but the rest of the money will be
covered by grants that have been awarded to the club for this purpose.

More details on nets including directions can be found at
http://www.cambournecc.com/node/1559

Also, a reminder that the AGM is on this Sunday at 7pm at the Pavilion. We will
make it as short as possible (around an hour) and we are hoping to arrange a
social event at Chutney Joes afterwards. Details to follow.

Dan asked me to send this on to the club.....

Dear Members

After much deliberation, Charlie Stephenson has decided to pursue his
cricketing development and coaching role away from Cambourne Cricket Club.

During his time both he and the coaching team at Cambourne guided our club
to achieving Clubmark status in record time. This, coupled with the gaining
of additional ECB and lottery funding has provided both coaching and
equipment for all the club to enjoy.

Charlie was also instrumental in preparing our Annual Development Plan.
This recently received approval from our county board allowing us to build
on firm foundations as we prepare for another exciting season ahead.

Please join me in wishing Charlie all the very best for his future
cricketing career.

Regards

Danny J White
Chairman, Cambourne Cricket Club

Mark has printed the flyers, I've got the maps, so all we need now is some
people! Just bring yourself to the pavilion at 11am tomorrow (bicycles may
be an advantage) and we will allocate zones to everyone to distribute the
flyers. If we get enough people then we should be done within an hour so
please make the effort to turn up and lend a hand if you possibly can.

The flyer design and text can be seen on the website

http://www.cambournecc.com/node/1565

Look forward to seeing you tomorrow....

Stuart

Hi

As preparation for 2009 gets into full swing, I would like to organise a
recruitment drive so that our 1st and 2nd teams can push on for further
success and to make the 3rd team a feasible proposition. We also hoping to
increase membership of our colts section, including the encouragement of
parents to get more involved with the club.

As part of this drive Mark is designing and printing some flyers which we
need distributing around Cambourne so I am asking for volunteers to help
with this by meeting up at the pavilion at 11am this Saturday morning (24th
January) and deliver flyers in an individually assigned area of Cambourne.
The more people we get, the easier it will be for everyone as each zone
will be smaller, so please try and make the effort to turn up and help if
you can.

If you know anyone that might be interested in playing cricket this summer
then please do encourage them to get involved by bringing them along to a
net session or any other event such as the AGM on 1st February.

Regards

Stuart

Just a reminder that the deadline for committee nominations is this Sunday
so make sure you get yours in if you haven't already. There are still a
number of key positions without any applicants so I encourage everyone not
currently on the committee to step up to the challenge and support the club
by doing your bit and ensuring the club can continue its remarkable
progress in 2009. In return you will get the opportunity to have an input
in the direction the club is going and be part of something exciting that
has great prospects for the future. Different roles require varying levels
of commitment and responsibility and there are positions still vacant that
can fit in with your job and personal lifestyle. Speak to myself or any
other committee member for further details.

See http://www.cambournecc.com/node/1530 for more detailed information
about the committee roles available.

Stuart

Hi All

Cambourne CC wins Hunts Post-Betfair Cash for Clubs Competition

I am pleased to announce that the club has been awarded £1000 to help purchase another mobile Cricket Cage. This will allow us to run two nets on the all weather pitch this season.

There is a cheque presentation photo shoot this Wednesday lunchtime in Stevenage. If anyone can attend on behalf of the club that would be terrific. Please contact me for further details.

Kind regards
Charlie
