Just give me the address... I'll make sure you don't need to worry
about storing them anymore....
OK, OK.... only kidding there.
I actually have a similar problem, in that I scored a a fair bit of
gear when I lived in Europe the last three years. Over there and
over here, I live(d) in a townhouse, roughly 20' wide.
In the near term, I keep ALL of it in a Self-Storage place about 1/4
mile from home. This is acceptable but expensive. Figure on
100/month for a 5x10' space in Northern Va.... don't know about MD,
but probably not hugely different.
Mid-term, I am rebuilding the deck off the back of my place and will
store the gear under there. Integral to the new deck design is
secure/dry storage for all the gear. Can't get that from a company
doing your deck for you, but I am a bit of a DIY-guy, and I like a
challenge. And lots of caulk.
My advice, especially if you have a condo, is to try to store the
masts, sail, booms, etc. inside your place, or your assigned storage
area. Then, hang the boards outside under either your deck, or the
deck of the condo above you. In theory, your boards can take the
mild winters here just fine (assuming they have no entrained water so
that freezing damage doesn't get them all torqued out of shape...).
Anyway, hope you like the area and get settled in OK. It's not the
Gorge, Maui, or Aruba. But sometimes duty calls. And hey, they
caught the sniper, right. Best of all though: Hatteras is only 5
hours away if you know where the accelerator is.
See ya on the water sometime...
