Why would you want to windsurf without a PFD?
We get our best performances with our favorite board and sail. The more
familiar we are with every element the better our performance. That line of
thinking leads me to use the PFD even on light wind days, when I'm very
unlikely to fall, so it won't be an unfamiliar element on ripping days when
concentration is required and rewarded.
Windsurfing is unpredictable, I don't know when I"ll have that ripping day that
leaves me completely tired as I fall and the board sails away faster than I can
swim. Since I always wear a PFD, I'm used to it, always comfortable with it,
and it will always be there if I ever need it. The only time I don't wear a
PFD is the one time a year when I forget to put it in the van (and if that is a
ripping day I spend the 30 minutes to go home and get it).
