Petra Kanz Windsurfing Clinics at the Gunpowder
The Baltimore Area Boardsailing Association (BABA) will
sponsor two Petra Kanz windsurfing clinics at the Gunpowder this
season.
Sat/Sun, June 30/July 1, 2001 - Intermediate shortboard techniques
Sat/Sun, July 28/29, 2001 - Advanced longboard performance
Because we cannot count on perfect wind conditions, the
curriculum will be somewhat wind dependent. The targeted ability
levels planned for each clinic, however, will assure that no matter
what wind we have, the instruction will prove valuable. Petra has
provided the following summary of clinic content.
Shortboard (light wind conditions): uphaul, luffing drills, nose
sinking drills leading up to shortboard tacks, pivot jibes, possibly
backwinding and lee side techniques for the more advanced, beach
starts fin first, clew first, etc., sailchi.
Shortboard (heavy wind conditions): water starts, fin first, clew
first etc., sailchi, planing tack, planing stepjibe, duckjibe.
Longboard: mast track and daggerboard positioning, tacks, pivot jibes
and high wind techniques, railing, sailing downwind and closehauled
at speed, harness lines setup (double), outhaul controls, etc.
The clinics will limit class size to six students per
instructor (minimum four students) and there will probably be no more
than two instructors. The limited size of these clinics should allow
for a good deal of individual attention.
When held on site these clinics are normally $220 for the two-
day event with 20 percent going to the organizing authority for
administration and promotional expense. BABA has waived this income
to reduce the cost to its members to $176. We will guarantee clinic
places on a first come/first served basis when BABA Treasurer, Fred
Thomas, receives your check for the full clinic amount. (Mail checks
with an indication of which clinic you wish to attend to Fred at 2418
Meadowside Court, Monkton, MD 21111.) For more information about the
clinics, call or message Chuck at (410) 592-7681, <cschnee@...>.
BABA membership is $20 per year (April 1 to March 31) for
individuals or families. BABA activities include a season long
racing program, spring and fall Hatteras trips, an annual out of area
high wind trip, beach cookouts, free beginners clinics, a bi-monthly
newsletter, postcard "alerts", launch site protection activity,
and
more.
