I am trying to add the District of Columbia to the list of places where
I've windsurfed.
I will be in Washington DC on Sunday May 6th. Can one of you rent a
longboard and full rig to me that day?
I will bring wetsuit gear with me as fits the projected weather
conditions. My idea is to meet at and sail from Washington Marina on
the
Virginia side near Reagan National Airport on Sunday May 6th. I don't
know the area well so tell me about any better places. I do not expect
to have a
car. My wife and I will be in Washington for a National Breast Cancer
Coalition conference.
When I checked in 1999 Washington Marina no longer rented windsurfers.
In mid May 1999 I rented from Belle Haven Marina south of the I-95-495
bridge
and sailed from there to the Maryland shore and back. My first 4 years
of windsurfing was on the Illinois River at Peoria, IL so I am
experienced in
sailing with currents and around a large variety of boats.
My experience: Since my first lessons in 1984 I've sailed in 17 states
and 7 foreign countries (3 of those were islands in the Caribbean). My
sailing
streak using a windsurfing rig in Iowa is now 86 months in a row (March
94 to April 01) because I count the snowsailing I do in January &
February.
The sails I own and use range from 3.7 to 11.0. Last year I windsurfed
on 72 days. April 21 will be my 14th time this year (10 on snow or
ice). The
board I use the most is a 1995 Bic Veloce 328 (about 180 liters, about
10' 10" long).
My inexperience: My "ocean" sailing has been in bays or harbors. I am
not what anyone would call a wavesailor. I've only waterstarted twice.
My
smallest board is an old 9' 6" with 150 liters of volume and is probably
15 years old.
Please let me know if you can help me or know of someone who can.
