According to the AP, Maria will be one of several athletes who will
get to carry the Olympic torch through Moscow on Saturday. Moscow is
in competition to host the 2012 games, so they are spending quite a

Hey everyone,
I apologise for the recent chain of spam our group has been receiving.
  The offenders have been removed from the list, but I am not sure if
that will solve anything.   I am considering other options, but I'll
see if that has to happen.

I'm sorry to have not sent anything to the list in quite some time.
Maria had her own show at Luzhniki in Moscow on March 4th, featuring
Drobiazko and Vanagas, Alexei Urmanov, Surya Bonaly, Philippe
Candeloro, Victor Petrenko, Krylova and Ovsiannikov, and Besedin and
Polishchuk.  Sounds like it was a great show, although not as well
attended as one might have hoped (perhaps due to ticket prices?).

Maria has continued to do commentary for Russian skating performances,
and has done recent performances to mostly Russian music (such as a
program set to the music of Yulia Nachalova, which I imagine she sang
live while Masha skated in the Moscow show).  I've missed seeing her
so much on American television.

This Saturday, if not this week definitely, is the 5 year anniversary
of Maria's World Championship win. It was 5 years ago-I was in junior
high and watching Maria's WC performance through my fingers and
tearing up when she finished. Now, I'm in college and Maria is
venturing into so many different things. I don't know what this means
to everyone, but a lot has changed in the past five years, not only
with Maria, but with Figure Skating itself. It's interesting to look
back and see the road traveled so far, but we mustn't forget the
bright future! Anyway, thanks to all of you for supporting Masha all
throughout the years!

Hi !
Maria skated in the christmas gala in Courchevel last week. I got a tape today.
She skated her Shakira program with double toe and double axel. It was a clean
and dynamic program with very good speed and she looked great. I think she`s
currently in a good shape, she also skated two good programs in Frankfurt last
week.
They made a little interview with her and she said she likes skating as a
professional, because she isn`t so much nervous now than before, but she said
also, that she would miss the eligible skating.

Hi all,

I have been to Fantasy on Ice in Vienna und Salzburg the past week, where Maria
was
included in the cast. She skated Eyes like Yours and a program to some kind of
Techno
music which I have never seen before. She was great, landing all her jumps, only
in
Salzburg she fell in the middle of her second program without any clear reason
but it
didn't matter at all. For the final she had some kind of a Tango part and that
really
suited her. Along with Marina Anissina, she was the last to leave the ice after
the show
in Salzburg, since all skaters were asked to sign.
I also have been lucky and got into both practices, which were really fun to
watch
especially the first one as they were doing the opening - in which Maria did not
participate as she skated right afterwards.

I attended Beauty on Ice last night in Bridgeport,CT & got a very
nice surprise-Maria was in the show! She was a last minute
replacement, she wasn't listed in the program, & she flew in from
Moscow on Thursday! She performed her Shakira program & did very
well except for 2 jumps. Since it's an exhibition for NBC, at the
end of the show, the skaters were allowed to do retakes. Maria had a
lot of trouble w/the jumps & did 3 takes for the first jump. After
the 3rd attempt, she went backstage to rest-jet lag & repeated
jumping is not a good combo. After 2 other skaters, Maria came back
out. She hit the second jump on the first take, however she forgot
to continue skating so that the camera crew could do the splicing on
the tape. The stage manager explained to her, in Russian, what she
had to do, & on the next try landed great. The crowd was very
supportive & were cheering for her to get the jumps & when she
landed she got a huge ovation.
The show is scheduled to be aired on NBC, Saturday January 3 from 4-

My favorite moment would be when Maria kissed her 99 World Champ
gold medal and showed it to the world and proved she was a champion.
I too don't watch skating much anymore now that Maria's not on every
other weekend form November to March. I miss her.

yeah, that would be mine too, i remember near the end of her
long program, when she knew she had won it, the look in her eyes, it
was fantastic, also one of the few times i've seen her really
smile rather than the usual stone cold concentration.  i don't
even watch skating that much now that she's retired.
