The Panera Bread Bucks 5K Series day at the Panera Bread cafe in
Warrington on January 12th was so successful that we've decided to
stage another one at the Central Bucks Family YMCA on February 9th
The hours are 8:00 to 11:00 AM.
The first 50 runners who register that day will receive a $3 Panera
gift card redeemable at their new cafe in the Valley Square Center in
Warrington. In addition, the Y is offering a complimentary pass to
runners who have not yet enjoyed training at the Y.
Registrations are significantly ahead of last year's record breaker,
so we expect another great year. You probably know that if you sign
up for all seven races, you'll save $15 and receive a custom,
moisture wicking T-shirt. This year's shirt will be long sleeved.
Our brochures were mailed this week, so you should have received
one. Of course, you can always register online or print an
application at www.bucks5kseries.com. The 2008 schedule is shown
below:

Supply, Johnny Marino's Advanced Health & Performance Center,
Delaware Valley College Aggies, Fred Beans Family of Dealerships, and

Series winners are recognized as the "Best of Bucks". In addition,
each of the seven races gives first, second and third place awards in
5-year age groups, with the overall male and female and the top age-
graded male and female master racers recognized. Each race has a 1-
mile fun run with awards for all finishers and many of the races
include 2-mile fitness walks In 2008, for the first time, all races
will feature the ChampionChip timing and scoring system.

Hey, Runners,
The 2008 Bucks 5K Series race schedule is now posted on
www.bucks5kseries.com. You can either register online or print an
application and mail it to us.
Individual race fees are unchanged from last year. You can still
save money by registering for all seven races. This year, your
reward will be our special moisture-wicking T-shirt. This year's
custom shirt will have long sleeves. In addition to the 5K races,
each organization will stage a 1 mile run, as well as other special
events. For the first time, the Doylestown 5K race will include a 5K
fitness walk. Many of the other races will include 2 mile fitness
walks.
Each 5K course has been officially certified by USTAF. As always,
Compuscore will provide computerized timing and scoring, while
Baldasari and Leestma will manage the finish line.
We are pleased to announce that, for the first time, all of our races
will use the ChampionChip. As you all know, our growth over the
years has been substantial. Now we'll be able to accommodate even
more runners as they cross the finish line and provide quicker
results.
As you begin to make your plans for 2008, why not incorporate the
Bucks
5k Series races into your training plans? They are a great way to
build up your speed as you train for the longer races later in the
year. Better yet, give a 7-race package to your favorite runner as a
Christmas present.
By supporting the Bucks 5K Series, you'll also be lending a helping
hand to seven important non-profit organizations. In 2007, we raised
$99,000 for the YMCA, New Hope-Solebury's Scholarship Fund,
CancerFit, SERTOMA, Bucks for Kids, CB Cares, Chalfont's Park and
Development Program, and Special Equestrians.
If you'd like to volunteer, make a personal donation, be a sponsor,
or contact us about any ideas you might have to make the Series even
better, please contact us at www.bucks5kseries.com
Have a great new year and, as you train, remember the words of
Cervantes:
"The journey is better than the end."

Another record group of runners turned out at the Chalfont Challenge
on June 9th. Joe Weigner (Germantown MD) won the 5K race for the 3rd
time in the last four years with a time of 16:11. Tyler Jones
(Chalfont) finished second to Weigner in 16:57.
The warm weather didn't prevent 428 registered runners and 68 fun
runners from enjoying the morning. This was 30% more than last year.
For the women, Laura Fanelli won her sixth consecutive Bucks 5K
Series race. Her time was 19:04. She was followed by Deena Andrus
(Reading) in 20:37. Deena was also the top masters finisher, with
Kathryn Wilder (Doylestown) second in a time of 22:07.
Andrus and Linda Thurston (Doylestown) tied in the masters age-graded
competition. Their 75.4% ratings are a great illustration of how age-
grading levels the field among age groups. In this case, there is a
23 year age difference between the two women.
On the men's side, Matt Waight (Pipersville) was the first master in
17:50, followed by Carl Goldschmidt with a time of 17:59. They were
also 1-2 in the master age-graded competition, with ratings of 78.9%
and 78.8%, respectively.
Two 8-year olds, Elijah Seger (Pineville) and Jamie Hermance
(Doylestown) finished among the top 4 in their male and female age
groups at the Chalfont race.
The Special Equestrians 5K took place on Father's Day, June 17th.
Once again, a record number of runners competed, more than 25% above
last year.
Laura Fanelli grabbed her second course record this year. She ran
18:22 and broke the previous course record by nearly a minute. This
was an outstanding achievement on a warm day. Laura also completed a
clean sweep of the Bucks 5K Series by winning all seven races. Ana
Leonard (Chalfont) was second in 19:26.
Kevin Cooke (Doylestown) celebrated Father's Day with his daughter by
winning his fourth Series race. His time was 16:26. Tim Marcoe
(Lansdale) was second with a time of 16:56.
Carl Goldschmidt won both the masters and the age-graded masters
divisions with a time of 17:37 and a rating of 80.5%. David Noa
(Doylestown) was the second master in 19:08. For the women, Deena
Andrus was the top master (20:35) and Laura Holland (Upper Black
Eddy) was second (22:05). Linda Thurston again had the best age
graded rating, 77.9%.
The tightest men's race was in the 15-19 age group. Eric Arnold
(Morrisville), Patrick Haneman (Jamison), and Bobby Gomez (Perkasie)
finished 3rd, 4th, and 6th overall, with times of 17:17, 17:30, and
17:40, respectively.
The under 12 girl's race was even closer. Only 23 seconds separated
the first 4 runners. They were Jackie Kinkead (Furlong), Madeline
Reiche (Doylestown), Kira Seger (Pineville), and Julie Gallagher
(Doylestown).

5K. The date is June 17th, so bring your running father(s) and
celebrate an exciting Father's Day. The start is early, 8:30, so
there will be plenty of time left in the day to enjoy other
activities.
In addition to the 1-mile Fun Run, there will a DJ, raffles, good
food, and the 5th annual Plop Drop. The morning will end with the
Series Awards ceremony. The course is designed for fast times. Why
not go for a P.R?

In what was arguably the closest finish in the history of the Bucks
5K Series, Todd Wiley held off a ferocious dash by Kevin Cooke to win
by less than 1 second at the Doylestown 5K on May 26th. Todd, of
Doylestown, is the current course record holder (15:20) and has won
this race in 3 of the last 5 years. Kevin, also from Doylestown, has
just locked up the 2007 Bucks 5K Series men's championship.
On a hot day in downtown Doylestown, Wiley finished in 16:24, with
Cooke timed at 16:25.
Laura Fanelli (Chalfont) won the women's division. Laura has been
unbeatable this year, having won all of the first five Bucks 5K
Series races. She has also clinched the Series women's
championship. Fanelli's time was 18:54. Second place went to 16
year-old Sarah Simonetti (Perkasie), with a time of 20:04.
With the high school track season at an end, it was truly a day for
the teenagers. There were 6 among the top 10 overall finishers, with
times between 17:03 and 18:01. C.J. Davies (Doylestown and CB West)
finished 3rd overall in a time of 17:03.
More than 600 athletes entered the 5K race, 1-mile fun run and 2-mile
fitness walk. They and more than 1000 spectators enjoyed the "Red,
White, and Blue" morning. The day was complete with live
entertainment, a drummer on the course, pre-race warm-ups, two
renditions of the National Anthem, joint singing of "America the
Beautiful", and a spirited post race awards ceremony in Printer's
Alley.
Deena Andrus (Reading) took both female master's and the age-graded
master's honors with a time of 20:43 and a 75% rating, respectively.
Carl Goldschmidt did the same in the men's division. His finishing
time was 17:54 and his age-graded rating was 79%.
Again this year, the Adamsky family of athletes showed their speed.
Brian (19:58), Rick (20:02), Tim (20:25), Greg (21:28), and Susanne
(24:45) all finished among the top 10 in their age groups.
The competition in the age groups was high. The closest was in men's
40-44. Only 23 seconds separated Matt Waight (Pipersville), Antonio
De Vido (Doylestown), and Rick Mc Garry (Doylestown). They had times
of 18:05, 18:21, and 18:28, respectively.
The tightest women's race was for the 20-24 group awards. Grace
Giles (Skillman, NJ), Jody Frank (Kintnersville), Sienna Frank
(Warrington) were separated by 32 seconds, with times of 23:15,
23:24, and 23:47, respectively.
For complete race results and the current Series standings, log on to
www.bucks5kseries.com. You can also register for the next 2 races on
the same site.
The Chalfont Challenge will run though the streets of Chalfont on
June 9th. Come help celebrate the Borough's 106th birthday and

exhibits and giveaways, plus Chalfont's regular complement of good
food. Register before June 2 and enjoy the lower registration fee.

For the third consecutive race, Kevin Cooke and Laura Fanelli were
the overall winners and there was also a record number of registered
runners. Kevin (Doylestown) and Laura (Chalfont) were the top racers
in the SERTOMA Strut held on May 12 in Doylestown's Central Park.
Their finishing times were 16:35 and 19:06, respectively.
Tara Snider (Sellersville) was the second woman in 20:19, while
Antonio De Vido (Doylestown) was the second man with a time of
17:46. Antonio had the best master's time. Deena Andrus (Reading)
was the top female master, finishing in 20:30. Linda Thurston
(Doylestown) had the highest age-graded rating among the women
masters. She scored 77.6%. Carl Goldschmidt was first among the
men, with a 79.4% rating. A rating of 80% represents a national
class runner.
The most competitive age categories were women's 35-39 and men's 45-
49. Tara Snider, Anabelle Morales (Perkasie), and Heidi Pernia
(Quakertown) finished 2, 3, and 5 among all of the women, with times
of 20:19, 20:23, and 20:59, respectively. In the M45-49, Carl
Goldschmidt, Carlton Seybolt (New Britain), and Christopher Stannik
(Doylestown) had times of 17:52, 18:23 and 18:30. They were 3, 6,
and 8 overall.
The complete results and the Series Standings are posted on
www.bucks5kseries.com. After 4 races, only 2 of the 28 age group
races have been decided. With 3 races remaining, there's still time
to put on a final kick.
The next race in the Bucks 5K Series will be in downtown Doylestown
on May 26th. The Doylestown "Red, White and Blue" 5K, is a great way
to kick off the Memorial Day Weekend. Runners and spectators will be
showing off their patriotic best. In addition to the 1-mile Fun Run
and 2-mile Fitness Walk, there will be various Memorial Day-inspired
events. The post race festivities and awards ceremony have been
moved to Puck's patio area and Star Park.
Proceeds will benefit the Doylestown Business and Community Alliance,
CB Cares, and Bucks for Kids, an all-volunteer local organization
that provides funds and scholarships to children in foster care.
You can save $5 by registering online before May 19th. Visit
www.bucks5kseries.com for more information.

Check out the Bucks 5K Series standings. They are now posted on
www.bucks5kseries.com. The final standings are determined by your
best 4 races. With 4 races to go, there's plenty of time left to
move up. The points are tabulated by the Compuscore computer and are
dependent upon accurate spelling of each runner's name. If you see a
problem, please let us know and we'll correct it.
While you're visiting the website, look for our new course elevations
feature. Our webmaster, David Pajer (TrainingZone Sports), has put
his GPS system to work and accurately measured the changes in
elevation for each of our certified courses. The system even assigns
a rating to each course.
The next Bucks 5K Series race, the SERTOMA Strut, is on May 12th.
Step lively because there will be a new tune at the Sertoma 5K this
year.
The Mummers All-Stars, representing three different clubs, will add a
lively beat to the festivities in Doylestown's Central Park. The
trio includes a banjo, sax, and accordion. They will be playing,
strolling and strutting to the tune of some old string band
favorites. There will be fun for everyone, with a 1-mile fun run, 2-
mile fitness walk, face painting, free massages, great food, and
raffles for various items, including a mountain bike for the 5K
runners and a scooter for the Fun Runners. Radio station B101 will
be there to supplement the music of the Mummers.
Traditionally the proceeds from SERTOMA's fundraising activities have
been to provide support to families and people with communication
disorders. This year Sertoma has elected to direct a portion of the
race proceeds to the family of Buckingham Township Police Officer,
Tim Johnson.

Kevin Cooke and Laura Fanelli were the first man and woman at the
Fitness Center 5K Race on April 21st. After completion of the first

19:23. Another Corbin, Julie, was second with a time of 20:18.
The race took place on a picture perfect day at Doylestown Hospital's
Health and Wellness Center. The total number of registered runners

Series race to attain a record. The race proceeds will benefit
Cancerfit, who provides evidence-based lifestyle programs to support
cancer survivors in our community.
Carl Goldschmidt (Doylestown) was the top master's runner with a time

finished in 20:44, the second best master's time.
Bucks 5K Series races always include significant achievements by
members of the same families. The Fitness 5K was no exception. Some
examples (by no means complete) are:
Jai Franks (11) -- 1st in age group, 23:13 -- and
Brittany (13) -- 3rd in age group, 25:02

April 12, 2007
For the second week in a row, there was a record-breaking run in the
Bucks 5K Series. This time it was Laura Fanelli (Chalfont) who broke
the women's course record at the New Hope-Solebury "Spirit" Run on
April 1. It was no April Fool's joke that Laura cruised the 5K
course in 18:35. This was an amazing 41 seconds better than the
previous record.
Registration for the race was an all-time high and the perfect
running weather did not disappoint the large crowd. 34 runners
cracked the 20 minute mark, led by Kevin Cooke (Doylestown). Kevin
finished in 16:45, followed by Bobby Gomez (Perkasie) in 17:10. The
first place master's runner was Jim Barger (Bensalem). Jim's time
was 17:29.
Nicole Mehlman (Silverdale) was the second overall woman with a time
of 20:07. Janet Patterson (Morristown NJ) was right behind her in
20:15. Janet's time was the best of the women master's runners.
The Bucks 5K Series is unique in recognizing master's runners by also
awarding a first place prize to the highest age-graded master. Age
grading is a way to rate runners regardless of their age. It is
based on tables developed by gathering data on a world-wide basis.
It enables a 60 year athlete to have as even a chance of winning as a
40 year old.
At the New Hope Solebury race, Gert Freas (North Wales) had the
highest master's rating, 79.7%. For the men, Carl Goldschmidt scored
a 79.3%. For reference, 100% represents the world's record and 80%
is a national class runner.
The day's events included a one mile fun run, a two mile fitness
walk, and a high energy team competition. BOSS won the high school
division. This 11 person team was led by Bobby Gomez, Jim Myers, and
Frankie Wilson. RED FLASH won the coed adult division. This 5
person team included the first place man (Kevin Cooke), the first
place woman (Laura Fanelli), and the first place master runner (Jim
Barger). Last year's winner, Team Patterson finished a distant
second.
We always like to acknowledge the closest age group races. This week
it was male 40-44. Jim Barger, Rick McGarry (Doylestown), and
Antonio De Vido (Doylestown) finished in 17:29, 17:45, and 17:51,
respectively. All three were among the top 8 finishers in the race.
The top three in male 15-19 were among the top 7 finishers. Bobby
Gomez, Thomas Hedges (Lambertville NJ), and Jim Myers (Doylestown)
had times of 17:10, 17:15, and 17:50, respectively.
For the women, female 12-14 was the closest. Katie Kinkead
(Furlong), Riley Renn (Horsham), and Rebecca Hendricks (Stockton NJ)
were timed in 23:22, 23:50, and 24:23, respectively.

The Bucks 5K Series launched its 12th season on March 25th at the
Central Bucks Family YMCA. The YMCA 5K had been postponed from March
18th because of the ice storm in the Middle Atlantic region.
The cool day was a perfect one for racing, and the lead runners
didn't disappoint. Karl Dusen (New York City) smashed the course
record and ran the fastest time ever recorded in a Bucks 5K Series
race. His 14:51 masterpiece beat his previous course record by 19
seconds. Joe Weigner (Germantown, MD) finished second in 15:26.
This was the 3rd fastest time on the Y course.
For the women, Laura Fanelli (Chalfont) clocked an 18:18 finish.
This was only 7 seconds off the course record. Her time was the
fastest Series race for a woman since 2003. Laura was second overall
in the 2006 Series standings. Ann Leonard (Chalfont) was the second
woman, with a time of 18:46.
Karl Dusen is a CB East and Columbia University graduate now living
in New York City. His best time for the 5K is 14:02. He is
currently pointing to the Olympic Trials Marathon. Karl ran 2:20:35
in last year's Chicago Marathon to qualify.
Carl Goldschmidt (Doylestown) was the fastest masters runner at
17:45, while Lou Coppens (Warminster) had the highest age-graded
score (81.8%) for masters runners. Laura Holland (Upper Black Eddy)
finished in 21:47 and won the female masters honors. Linda Terry
(Chalfont) had the highest age-graded score (74.0%) among the female
masters.
The postponement didn't dampen the spirits of the Irish. A bagpiper
sent the 427 registered runners off at the start and welcomed them
across the finish line. Face painting and Blarney Stone painting
kept the younger children busy during registration and before the
awards ceremony. The day featured something for everyone a one
mile fun run, a 2 mile fitness walk and a kid's scramble. Proceeds
from the race benefit the Y's financial assistance program no one
is turned away from the Y.
There was outstanding competition in most of the age groups. A
highlight was the male 15-19 age group. 8 of the top 20 finishers
were from the teenage group, with times ranging from 17:24 to 19:20.
The first 3 were Bobby Gomez (Perkasie) in 17:24, Ryan Werner
(Doylestown) in 18:01 and Frankie Wilson (Sellersville) in 18:16.
These are the future stars.
The tightest women's race was the female 35-39 age group. Anabelle
Morales (Perkasie), Heidi Pernia (Quakertown), and Tammy Smith
(Dublin) finished 1-2-3, with times of 20:22, 20:53, and 21.21,
respectively.
The Series will continue on April Fools Day in New Hope. For more
information, and to register for the races, log on to
www.bucks5kseries.com. You can also see the complete Y race results
while you're there.

Hey, Runners,
The 2007 Bucks 5K Series race schedule is now posted on
www.bucks5kseries.com <http://www.bucks5kseries.com/> . You can either
register online or print an application and mail it to us.
Prices are unchanged from last year, except that we have reduced the
fitness walk fee from $10 to $5. We hope that this will encourage all
of your family members to join you for the events of the day. In
addition to the 5K races, each organization will stage a 1 mile run, as
well as other special events. The first 5 races will also include the 2
mile fitness walks.
Each 5K course has been officially certified by USTAF. The SERTOMA race
will feature a new, certified course. As always, Compuscore will
provide computerized timing and scoring, while Baldasari and Leestma
will manage the finish line.
As you begin to make your plans for 2007, why not incorporate the Bucks
5k Series races into your training plans? They are a great way to build
up your speed as you train for the longer races later in the year.
Better yet, give a 7-race package to your favorite runner as a Christmas
present. The 7-race package comes with two incentives: a reduced rate
plus a special moisture wicking t-shirt.
By supporting the Bucks 5K Series, you'll also be lending a helping
hand to seven important non-profit organizations. In 2006, we raised
more than $60,000 for the YMCA, New Hope-Solebury's Scholarship
Fund, the Free Clinic of Doylestown (Hospital), SERTOMA, the Cystic
Fibrosis Foundation, Chalfont's Park and Development Program, and
Special Equestrians.

or contact us about any ideas you might have to make the Series even
better, please contact us at www.bucks5kseries.com

Two of the top young runners in the area, Alexandra Brasington and
Joshua Izewski, are the overall champions of the 11th annual Bucks 5K
Series.
The Bucks 5K Series is a series of seven 5 kilometer road races held
during the spring in the Central Bucks area. More than 2600 runners
competed for the overall championship and for awards in 14 age
groups. In addition, over 500 runners and walkers participated in
the one-mile fun runs and two-mile health walks that were part of
each day's events. The Series ended on June 18 at the Special
Equestrians facility in Warrington, one of seven non-profit
organizations which benefit from the Series.
For Brasington, 15, from Dresher, this is her 5th consecutive
championship. She won the title first in 2002 when she was 11 years
old. She was in danger of having her consecutive streak broken by
Laura Fanelli (Chalfont). However, Alexandra focused on the Chalfont
Challenge and won it in her best time of the year, 19:26. This
performance locked up the Series championship.
Izewski, 16, from Doylestown, won his first overall championship. He
had previously won 2 age group awards, beginning in 2003. Joshua
went into the final race of the year, the Special Equestrians 5K,
needing a win against Timothy Zwall (Ivyland) and Damian Kellogg
(Trenton NJ). These three finished 1-2-3 in the race, with times of
16:43, 17:10, and 17:21, respectively. With his win, Izewski won the
championship, followed closely by Kellogg and Zwall.
The Series championship is decided by the runner's best finishes in
four of the seven races. As a result, it is a measure of both speed
and consistency. The seven races and the non-profits they benefit
are Central Bucks Family YMCA, New Hope-Solebury Community
Association, Doylestown Hospital's Health and Wellness Center,
SERTOMA, Doylestown Business and Community Association, Chalfont
Borough Parks, and Special Equestrians. The Series netted $80,000
for these organizations. www.bucks5kseries.com includes specific
information on the charitable services provided by these
organizations.
Age group winners are determined in the same way as the overall
champions. The age group leaders were:
Under 12 Samuel Lindgren and Erinne Munie
12-14 James Stevenson and Hannah Lindgren
15-19 Jeff Dickson and Sarah Quinlan
20-24 Michael Jacobs and Rebecca Gorodetzer
25-29 Kirk Palermo and Laura Fanelli
30-34 Matthew Sikora and Christina Grube
35-39 Timothy Zwall and Heidi Pernia
40-44 Antonio De Vido and Deena Andrus
45-49 David Noa and Gert Freas
50-54 Fred Gropper and Joan Kotz Kovar
55-59 Mike Clarke and Marie Dean
60-64 Louis Coppens and Linda Thurston
65-69 Warren Taylor
70- Richard Millham
Complete Series standings and the results of each of the seven races
may be found on www.bucks5kseries.com. The schedule for 2007 is
already posted on this website.
Quigley Cold-Eeze is the title sponsor of the Bucks 5K Series. Other
Corporate Sponsors include Comcast, Delaware Valley College, Marvic
Supply, C&M Home Builders, Univest, and TrainingZone Sports.
Karl Dusen won the Doylestown 5K in an outstanding time of 15:30. He
ran well ahead of the rest of the field, and might have challenged
Todd Wiley's course record of 15:20 had he had been pushed. Karl
attended CB East and now lives in New York City. In second place was
a current CB East runner, sophomore Joshua Izewski (17:06). It runs
in the family because Josh's sister, Nicole, won the female 12-14 age
group, and his brother, Alexander was 3rd in the male 12-14 age group.
Laura Fanelli (Chalfont) was the overall women's champion with a time
of 19:43. Jennifer Moylan (Sellersville) was second in 20:19.
Gert Freas (North Wales) was the first masters woman. Her time was
20:30. Joan Kotz Kovar (Doylestown) was second in 21:22. For the
masters female age-graded division, Gert and Joan swapped places.
Joan's score was 79.2% and Gert's was 78.7%.
Antonio De Vido (Doylestown) was the top masters male, while Carl
Goldschmid (Holicong) was second. Their times were 17:52 and 18:17,
respectively. In the age-graded masters competition, Lou Coppens
(Warminster) prevailed with a score of 80.9%. He was followed by Dan
Tantino (North Wales), whose score was 78.5%.
The closest age group was male 45-49. John Lehman (Greenville, SC),
Rick Adamsky Warminster), and Brian Adamsky (Jamison) finished in
19:31, 20:02, and 20:04, respectively. Tim Adamsky (Doylestown)
completed the Adamsky Brothers Trifecta with a time of 20:18. Talk
about brotherly love!
For the women, it was the 12-14 age group. Nicole Izewski (23:52),
Kristen Myers (New Britain 24:38) and Julie Smith (Doylestown
24:59) took the honors.
The complete results of the Doylestown race and all of the other
Bucks 5K Series races are available on www.bucks5kseries.com.
After the first 5 races, Kyle Murray and Alexandra Brasington
continue to be the leaders in the competition for the overall Bucks
5K Series Championships.
There are a total of 28 age groups in the Series and 21 first places
are still up for grabs. Check out the Series standings on
www.bucks5kseries.com. You may very well be a contender for a 1st.
2nd, or 3rd place award.
The final two races are the Chalfont Challenge on June 10th and the
Special Equestrians 5k on Father's Day, June 18th. The courses for
both of these races have just been certified by USA Track and Field,
so if you set a World 5000 meter record, you will go into the record
books.
Come to Chalfont to celebrate the Borough's 105th birthday and the
inauguration of its Park and Trail Development Program. Special
Equestrians will be providing lots of fun and prizes for your Father,
so bring him to run or cheer. For more information and to register
for both of these races, please visit www.bucks5kseries.com.
Finally, if you are one of the runners who registered in advance for
all seven races and have not picked up your special moisture wicking
t-shirt, now's the time. Many have asked how to purchase this
attractive shirt, we have a few extras available. Just bring $20 to
the next race. They will probably disappear quickly.
See you in Chalfont,

Benefits from the SERTOMA (SErvice TO MAnkind) race are used to
provide scholarships and assistive technology for children and adults
with hearing impairments. The Central Bucks SERTOMA volunteers
organize the 5K Race, the 1 mile run, and the 2 mile Health Walk.
They also administer distribution of the proceeds from the events.
Thanks to all runners and sponsors for such strong support.
The overall winners of this year's race, held on May 13th were
Antonio De Vido and Alexandra Brasington. De Vido, from Doylestown,
finished with a time of 17:25. He was followed by Damian Kellog
(Ewing NJ) in a time of 17:40. Brasington (Dresher) was 18th overall
in a time of 19:37. This was Alexandra's third win in the Bucks 5K
Series. The second woman to cross the finish line was Laura Fanelli
(Chalfont). She finished only 9 seconds behind with a time of 19:46.
Gert Freas (North Wales) was the first female master, completing the
course in 20:46. Joan Kotz Kovar (Doylestown) was the top age-graded
female master with a time of 21:20 and an age-graded score of 79.3%.
Antonio De Vido was also the first male master. Carl Goldschmid
(Holicong) was second in 18:06. Mike Clarke (Doylestown) had the
highest age-graded score among the male masters. His score was
80.7%, with a time of 19:42.
Age-grading provides a way of comparing a runner's performance
against all ages and around the world. A score of 80% or higher
rates as "National Class".
The tightest age group races were in the F12-14 and M15-19
divisions. In the boy's 15-19 division, only 22 seconds separated
Jeff Dickson (Chalfont), David Manion (Chalfont), and James Myers
(New Britain). Their times were 17:55, 18:14, and 18:17,
respectively. These performances bode well for the future of Central
Bucks track teams.
In the girl's 12-14 division, Laura Aseltine (Doylestown), Paula
Kluskiewicz (Kintersville), and Julie Smith (Doylestown) all finished
strong, with times of 24:44, 25:01 and 25:12.
After 4 races, the Series Standings are getting very interesting.
Although Kyle Murray and Alexandra Brasington are leading in the
overall competition, they have not yet clinched the titles. The same
is true of the age group standings -- most are wide open. For the
complete standings and all of the previous race results, please visit
www.bucks5kseries.com.
The next Series race will be on May 27th, the Saturday before
Memorial Day. It's the Doylestown 5K, traditionally the largest of
the seven Bucks 5K Series races. You can start your Memorial Day
weekend by joining more than 600 runners in a race through the
streets of Doylestown. The weekend actually begins Friday night at
the YMCA with the "pump" part of the pump and run competition. There
are events for the entire family, including a 1 mile run and a 2 mile
health walk.
For more information and online registration, log on to
www.bucks5kseries.com. If you register before May 20th, you'll beat
the price increase.

After 3 races, Kyle Murray leads the men's standings with 3 first
place finishes worth 60 points, while Alexandra Brasington leads the
women with 2 first place finishes and 40 points. Kyle will be hard
to beat, although it is possible, given that 4 races remain on the
schedule. The overall winners and the age group winners will be
determined by a runner's four best finishes, with a minimum of 4
races required.
The age groups are still up for grabs, although Fred Gropper, Warren
Taylor, and Richard Millham all have a leg up on the competition.
They are the only runners, male or female, with 3 wins each.
Log on to www.bucks5kseries.com for the complete standings.
For those of you who missed the Fitness Center 5K Race because of the
rain, you shouldn't have. The rain subsided at the start of the
race, and conditions were pretty good. You missed an extremely well
managed race, with an outstanding post-race celebration. It was all
inside the wellness center and featured live music.
Alexandra Brasington (Dresher) was the first woman in a time of
20:02. She was followed by Deena Andrus (Reading) in 21:00. Deena
was also the leading female master. The second master was Linda
Petrilla (Ambler) with a time of 21:26.
Kyle Murray (Jamison) was the overall winner with a time of 16:19.
Second was Michael Tarkoff (Warrington). Michael posted a time of
16:58.
Jay Miers (Langhorne) and Jim Barger (Bensalem) battled it out in the
men's masters division. Jay prevailed with a time of 17:27 against
Jim's time of 17:40.
Lou Coppens (Warminster) won the masters male age-graded
competition. His score of 83.6% was one of the highest recorded
since the Bucks 5K Series instituted this competition. Jay Miers was
close behind with a score of 83.2%.
For the women, Linda Thurston (Doylestown) was first with a score of
77.3%, followed by Gert Freas (North Wales) at 73.8%.
In the age groups, the M40-44 division provided the closest finish.
Only 15 seconds separated the first three runners, Jim Barger
(17:40), Butch Oberlander (17:49), and Antonio De Vido (17:55). The
F25-29 division was another tight one. Ann Narragon (21:10),
Stephanie Peteraf (21:59), and Mary Latza (22:31) all turned in
excellent performances.
The Fitness Center hosted the second in a series of three pump and
run events. The third will be staged at the Doylestown 5K race. Tom
Brown, James McNamara, and Steve Konnovitch finished 1-2-3 in the
men's event. Tom's adjusted 5K time was a minus 20 seconds. Linda
Petrilla was the women's winner.
Check out www.bucks5kseries.com for the complete results of the 5K
race and the pump and run. While you're there, why not register
online for the next Series race, the SERTOMA 5K, on May 13. Save $5

The floods of 2005 gave way to a picture perfect day for the New Hope-
Solebury "Spirit" 5K race on April 2. Nearly 600 people enjoyed the
day's events, including a record number of 461 runners who registered
for the 5k race. There was an event for every one, including a 1
mile run, a 2 mile health walk, and team competition in two different
categories. After the first two Series races, the number of 5K
runners is up by more than 20% from last year.
Meghan Lutz (Langhorne) was the first woman with a time of 20:06,
while Kyle Murray (Jamison) recorded his second Series win in a time
of 16:27.
As you may know, the local police changed the race route on race day
without notifying race officials. As a result, the certified 5K
course was 104.6 meters too long. Race officials measured this extra
distance using both a surveyor's wheel and a GPS system. The
conclusion: multiple your actual finishing time by 0.979 to obtain a
very accurate time for your 5000 meters race.
On this basis, Meghan's actual finishing time was 19:41 and Kyle's
was 16:10. All of the times discussed below have not been adjusted.
Tammy Smith (Dublin) was the second woman with a time of 20:58.
Janet Patterson (Morristown, NJ) was one second behind. Rick
Clendaniel (Warminster) was the second man in a time of 16:56,
followed by Joshua Izewski (Doylestown) in 17:02.
The results for the male age-graded masters were: Art Burger
(Doylestown) 78.9%, Mike Clarke (Doylestown) 78.7%, and Lou Coppens
(Warminster) 78.1%. For the women, it was Joan Kotz Kovar
(Doylestown) 78.7%, Linda Thurston (Doylestown) 76.2%, and Gina Buggy
(Chalfont) 74.2%.
Team Stout won the team competition in the high school division and
Team Patterson won the coed adult division.
The closest age groups were women's 12-14 and men's 50-54. Hannah
Lindgren (Doylestown 23:24), Brittany Franks (Philadelphia
24:34), and Laura Aseltine (Doylestown 24:44) battled it out for
the honors in F12-14. Fred Gropper (Yardley 20:02), David Willard
(Erwinna 20:23), and Terry Greber (Chalfont 20:24) did the same
in M50-54.
Complete results are posted on www.bucks5kseries.com.
One of the missions of the Bucks 5K Series is to raise money for
important local non-profit organizations. The first race benefits
the Central Bucks Family YMCA's financial assistance program no one
is turned away from the Y. The second race benefits the New Hope-
Solebury Community Association's scholarship and athletic funds. We
are pleased to announce that the first two races have netted more
than $30,000 for these worthy causes. The Bucks 5K Series is
thankful for your continued support.
The third Series race will be staged on April 22nd at Doylestown
Hospital's Health and Wellness Center in Warrington. The 5K course
has just been certified by USATF, #PA06003LMB. The day's events
include a free pump and run competition, a one mile fun run, and a
two mile health walk. Registration begins at 7:45. It benefits the
Free Clinic of Doylestown.

The Bucks 5K Series kicked off the 2006 season on March 19th at
Central Bucks Family YMCA in Doylestown. The YMCA festivities began
early in the morning with a well-choreographed registration and check-
in process for runners, volunteers and families along for the fun. In
spite of the chilly weather, 487 runners registered for the 5K race,
58 for the first-ever 2 mile Health Walk and 60 runners competed in
the 1 mile Fun Run. The 5K race featured spirited competition,
outstanding performances, personal records, and satisfying finishes
by many first-time runners. Pre and post race festivities revolved
around a St. Patrick's Day theme with a bagpiper, face painting,
blarney stone painting, and lots of good food.
Kyle Murray, 19, of Jamison, won the race in 15:57. The first female
to finish was Alex Brasington, 15, of Dresher, with a time of 19:50.
Chris Ganter (Doylestown) was second overall in 16:52, followed by
Brian Gould (Langhorne) in 16:58. The second woman was Laura Fanelli
(Chalfont). She was just 6 seconds behind Alex. Suzanne Day
(Houston TX) was third with a time of 20:10.
Suzanne Day was also the first Masters Age-Graded Female with a
rating of 82.9%. Nancy Smith (New Britain) was second at 82.3%,
followed by Gert Freas (North Wales) at 78.4%. John King-Marino
(Chalfont) was the first Masters Age-Graded Male. He scored an
82.7%. Second was Art Burger (Doylestown) at 80.2%, while Warren
Taylor (Telford) was third at 76.4%.
The YMCA conducted its first Pump and Run this year. In this event,
runners can reduce their overall times based on the number of bench
presses they perform. The "pumping" occurred prior to the 5K race.
The weight to be lifted was based on their body weight and age.
Thirty-six runners registered to compete in this event.
Among the women, Susan Pajer (Doylestown) was first with an adjusted
time of 15:21. Sharon Wilusz (Southampton) was second in 18:33 and
Diane Joganich (Chalfont) was third in 19:32. On the men's side,
David Phillipes (Emmaus) won with an adjusted time of -:09 (yes,
that's correct!). Thomas Brown (Jamison) was second in 2:19 and
James McNamara (Fanwood NJ) was third in 7:37.
The most competitive age group was M15-19. The first 10 runners
finished under 19:19 and were all in the overall top 30. For the
females, only 25 seconds separated the top 3 in the F45-49 bracket.
Barbara Lyons, Doylestown Township Supervisor, started both the 5K
and the 1 Mile Fun Run, following Skip Schanbacker's trumpet
rendition of the Star
Spangled Banner.
Complete race results are posted at www.bucks5kseries.com.
The next race in the Bucks 5K Series will be on April 2nd at New Hope-
Solebury High School. There will be team competition, music,
giveaways, and good food. This year's 5K race will be run on the

Dear Runners,
We're fast approaching the first Bucks 5K Series race on March 19th.
The Central Bucks Family YMCA will once again celebrate St. Patrick's
Day with events for the entire family to enjoy. They include the 5K
race, a one mile fun run, and, for the first time, a 2 mile health
walk. Also for the first time, you can compete in the special Pump
and Run division. Children's activities include a kid's scramble,
face painting, and Blarney stone painting. All 5K runners will be
eligible to win a raffle for a hybrid fitness bike.
Last year's 5K winner, Karl Dusen, recorded the fastest time for any
of the Series races. The YMCA 5K course has just been certified by
USTAF (certification #PA06001LMB), so any records will be officially
recognized by the USTAF.
The Y race is a good place to start your collection of Series
points. Remember, there are 5 year age groups for both this race and
the overall Series.
All of the details, including times, driving directions, previous
years' results, contact points, how the Series standings work, and
much more can be viewed at www.bucks5kseries.com. While you're
there, take a look at the special Series moisture wicking T-shirt.
It's free to any runner who registers for all seven races before
March 12th. So far, more than 50 runners have taken advantage of
this offer, which also includes a discounted price. Please remember
that if you plan to register for the YMCA race alone, the
registration fee will increase after March 12th.
You can print an application or register online now at

Todd Wiley (Doylestown) and Alexandra Brasington (Dresher) were the
male and female winners of the Special Equestrians 5K race on June
19. This was the seventh and final race of the Bucks 5K Series.
The proceeds of the race will benefit Special Equestrians'
therapeutic horseback riding and driving programs.
Todd finished with a time of 16:09, edging Kevin Cooke (Doylestown)
who ran 16:20. The women's race was even closer. Alexandra beat
Meagan McGinley (Doylestown) by only 7 seconds -- 19:50 to 19:57.
This was Meagan's first race of the Series.
Gert Freas (North Wales) was the age-graded female masters winner
with a rating of 77.7%. Gert was also the female masters winner with
a time of 20:18. Gina Buggy (Chalfont) was second in both categories

The toughest age group was male 40-44. The first 8 runners all

fit!

The 7th and final race of the Bucks 5K Series will be contested this
Sunday, June 19th at the Special Equestrians facility on Street Road
in Warrington. This is a change from previous years, when the race
was held on a Saturday.
As always, the Series awards will be presented immediately after the
race awards. Check out www.bucks5kseries.com
<http://www.bucks5kseries.com> for the latest results and the Series
standings. If you're in the running for a Series award, be sure to
not miss this final event. NOTE: PLEASE REMEMBER THAT FOR THE SERIES
SCORING, YOUR OFFICIAL AGE IS YOUR AGE ON 6/19/05, NOT YOUR AGE ON
ANY OF THE RACE DATES.
We'll also be selling the 10th Anniversary pint glasses, as well as a
limited number of our special dri-fit Series T-shirts. Both are
terrific buys and their sales will help our non-profit organizations.
