On a glorious day, a record number of runners raced the Doylestown
5K. Registration for the 5K totaled 539, while another 67 athletes
ran the first-ever Doylestown Fun Run. A separate Pump and Run event,
Team Competition, and 3 different post race socials only added to the
super day.

Todd Wiley (Doylestown) won the race with a clocking of 15:34. Ryan
Walsh (Haverford) was second in 15:57. For the women, Liz Ludwigson
(Norristown) was first in 18:50 and Alexis Flores (Harleysville)
finished 2nd in 19:19.

One of the most outstanding performances of the day was turned in by
13 year-old Philip Wood (Yardley) who smoked the course in 16:47 and
finished 3rd overall.

In the Master's Division, Nancy Smith (New Britain) was tops
among the women, with Suzanne Day (Houston TX) close behind. Their
times were 19:48 and 20:23, respectively. Bob Powell (Furlong) was
the first master's man in 18:07, followed by Neil van Aartrijk
(Monmouth Junction NJ) in 18:11.

There were runners from 11 states in the race, including Texas,
California, Tennessee, South Carolina, Ohio, Maine and Massachusetts.

The Brothers Adamsky (Rick, Brian, Tim, and Greg) all finished within
a minute of each other. Their times ranged from 19:43 to 20:37. There
were many other family affairs, including, but not limited to, the
Postigliones, Izewskis, and Quinlans.

Many age groups were extremely close. In M15-19, there were Jesse
Heller (18:01), Shawn McMullen (18:11), and Jeff Buzin (18:22). Even
closer was M35-39, where Tim Zwall (19:00), Rip Harris (19:02) and
Bruce Lewis (19:10) battled it out. The F40-44 group included the
usual suspects – Gert Freas (20:29), Gina Buggy (20:37), and
Molly Goga (21:08).

The first annual Pump and Run event began with bench presses at the
YMCA on Friday night. There was a handicap for age and weight with
scoring of the event handled separately from the 5K. Jennifer Arnold
ran 23:12 and her outstanding "pump" enabled her to take the
women's championship. Jason Wiley ran 17:50 and won the men's
championship.

The events benefited the Doylestown Business and Community
Association and Cystic Fibroses.

This was the 5th race of the Bucks 5K Series. With 2 races remaining,
most of the age group championships are still open, although Art
Burger (60-64) and Gert Freas (40-44) did lock up their categories.
Alex Brasington has clinched the overall women's championship.
The men's is still undecided, with Johnny Marino still in the lead.
For more race results and the official Series standings, log on to
www.bucks5kseries.com.

The next race is the Chalfont Challenge on June 5th. The course has
been changed back to the original, but still starts and ends at
Chalfont's Borough Hall. Registration begins at 7:30. The race
starts at 9:00. The last Bucks 5K Series fun run is set for 8:30. As
always, there will be excellent food and festivities after the race.
This year, the start will also be quite exciting. For more
information and to register, visit www.bucks5kseries.com

A hot day didn't prevent Alex Brasington from setting yet another
course record at the 8th annual Sertoma 5K in Doylestown's
Central Park. With a time of 18:58, she won her 4th consecutive Bucks
5K Series race and sewed up the Bucks 5K Series championship. Nancy
Smith, the 2001 champion, took second in a time of 20:13. Nancy, who
is back after suffering a wrist injury prior to the season's
start, won the Master's Division. Gert Freas was the second
master with a time of 21:05.

Michael Lehtonen and Johnny Marino battled it out at the front of the
race. Michael prevailed in a time of 16:01. This was his second
series win. Johnny finished with a time of 16:27, his best time of
the year. Marino was also the first Master. Kevin Sullivan took
second in 18:47.

The closest age group races were the men's 25-29 and the
women's 40-44. Brian Holden edged Chris Ganter with a time of
17:16 to 17:23. Gert Freas (21:05), Molly Goga (21:17) and Ginny
Buggy 21:18) were almost as close as you can get.

Among the various families entered, Sarah (26:40), Brian (24:31),
Karen (23:21), and Joe (22:24) Quinlan all turned in outstanding
times for their age groups.

Alex Brasington has won the women's overall Bucks 5K Series
championship. However, with one exception, all of the other age group
awards are still open. In the women's 60-64, Linda Thurston has
already clinched the title. For the men, Johnny Marino leads the
overall scoring, with Michael Lehtonen second. All of the men's
age group winners are still to be determined.

Check out all of the race results and the Series standings on
www.bucks5kseries.com.

The next Bucks 5K Series race is the Doylestown 5K on May 29th. This
race is always the biggest of the Series, and this year will be no
exception. For the first time, there will be team competition, a 1-
mile run, and a pump-and-run event. The "pump" will take place Friday
night at the CB Family YMCA. In addition, there will be Street
Festival staged by Roosevelt's Blue Star. And, finally, our own
Dr. John, Johnny Marino and the Medical Healing Arts Center, will
host a free, post-race barbecue for all racers.

The Fitcare LifeCenter 5K race held on April 17 was similar to the
first 2 races in the Series - there was a different men's winner, but
the same women's winner. Alexandra Brasington (Dresher PA) broke her
own course record by an impressive 24 seconds in a time of 18:44.
This was her third consecutive Series win. Michael Lehtonen
(Allentown PA) won the men's division with a time of 16:24. The first
3 Series races now show three different male winners.

The event benefits Doylestown Hospital's Free Clinic, which provides
dignified professional services to individuals and families with no
regular source of medical care. More than 330 runners participated in
the 5K race and the accompanying 1-mile fun run. Both races have a
challenging uphill finish, so the fast times were really outstanding

Johnny Marino was second overall and the first male master's, with a
time of 16:39. David Noa took second in the master's division in
18:35.

For the women, Alexis Flores was second overall (19:39) and Gina
Buggy (20:57) won the master's division. Laurie Walsh (21:53) was
second in the master's.

The Series standings are now posted on www.bucks5kseries.com. After 3
of 7 races, most of the age groups and the overall men's are wide
open. Of course, to win, a champion must run a minimum of 4 races, so
anything can happen.

The closest age group races were in M12-14, where Joshua Izewski
(18:25), Steve Spierto (18:32), and Royce Scrivano (18:41) battled it
out; in M45-49, where the competition was between, David Noa (18:35),
John Gorgol (19:10), and Fred Gropper (19:55); in F50-59, where Ruth
King (24:37), Mary Horvath (24:50), and Susan Parker (25:05) all
turned in very good times; and in M50-59, where Dave Willard (19:38),
Gary Corbi (19:49), and Brian Vaughan (20:58) were all with the force.

The next Bucks 5K Series race is the Sertoma 5K on May 15th in
Doylestown Township's beautiful Central Park. After 2 very hilly
courses, this one is relatively flat. The race benefits children and
adults with hearing impairments. In addition to the normal Series
fun, there will be a raffle (free to all registered runners) of a
$300 mountain bike. To register or obtain more information, please

The weather held out and conditions were perfect for the New Hope-
Solebury "Spirit Run" on April 4th. More than 450 athletes ran in the
5K and accompanying 1-mile fun run. The Event benefits the NH-S
Community Association's scholarship and athletic funds. The race
itself and the organization around it were outstanding.

Alex Brasington (Dresher PA) won her second Series race with a time
of 19:29. Kristen Haughey (Pittstown NJ) was second in 20:01. Brian
and Bill Gould (Langhorne PA) took the men's honors. Brian won in
16:16, with Bill a close second in 16:22.

The top Masters were Johnny Marino (17:16) and Tom Rudan (18:34) for
the men and Gert Freas (20:50) and Gina Buggy (21:11) for the women.

The Bucks 5K Series also provides performance-level percentage (PLP)
as a way to grade runners by age. The highest master's PLP was turned
in by Art Burger (80.7%) for the men, while Joan Kovar and Gert Freas
each turned in a 75.0% for the women. For more information about PLP,
you can check out www.compuscore.com.

Among the women there were several extremely competitive age groups:
F50-54, where only 6 seconds separated Ruth King (25:25), Mary
Horvath (25:30), and Deborah Devlin (25:31); F35-39, where only 8
seconds separated Kristin Perkins (21:04), Deena Andrus (21:09) and
Tammy Smith (21:12); and F40-44, where the third place finisher,
Molly Goga was just behind Gert Freas and Gina Buggy.

For the men, Matt Sikora (17:37), Jason Wiley (18:05), and David
Porter (18:41) made M30-34 interesting, while Ken Worthen (19:14),
Grant Brewin (19:52) and Terry Greber (20:18) did the same for M50-54.

The youngest runner was 5 year old Daniel Powell and the veteran was
Charlie Greeley at 74. Look for the complete results on
www.bucks5kseries.com

The next Series race is the Fitcare LifeCenter 5K on April 17th at
9:30. The race will benefit Doylestown Hospital's Free Clinic of
Doylestown. Registration starts at 7:45 at the Health and Wellness
Center on 847 Easton Road in Warrington. There will be a 1-mile
run/walk for all ages, a Pump and Run event, a D.J., and great prizes
and food. Childcare will be available. To register or obtain more
information, please visit www.bucks5Kseries.com now.

Bucks 5K Series - Here comes the New Hope-Solebury "Spirit Run"

The second race of the Bucks 5K Series will start from New Hope-
Solebury High School at 10:00 on Sunday, April 4th. Registration
opens at 8:30.

If haven't run the course, you've been missing a treat. Most of last
year's runners agreed that it is the most scenic of the seven Bucks
5K Series races, winding through picturesque New Hope. One important
change is that the registration and post race events will be held
inside the High School. This should be comforting to those who
remember the gusty winds in 2003.

Our new and improved Fun Run kicks off the day at 9:30. This year
there will be special T-shirts and awards for the 1-mile event. If
you plan to run the 5K, encourage your family to join the fun by
running or walking the Fun Run.

Other highlights include team competition. Teams of 6-12 runners are
invited to join the competition for a chance to win a free dinner at
one of New Hope's fine restaurants. Call 215-862-5665 for information
and sign up sheets. There will also be music, giveaways, good food,
and children's activities after the race. Join the pre-race and post-
race crowd and enjoy the friendship of our community of runners.

To register for the race or for more information, including course
and area maps, go now to www.bucks5kseries.com.

The Bucks 5K Series kicked off the 2004 season on March 14th at the
Central Bucks Family YMCA in Doylestown. In spite of the chilly
weather, 429 runners registered for the 5K race and 80 runners
competed in the 1 mile fun run. The 5K race featured spirited
competition, outstanding performances, personal records, and
satisfying finishes by many first-time runners. Post race
festivities revolved around a St. Patrick's Day theme with a
bagpiper, face painting, blarney stone painting, and lots of good
food.

Alex Brasington was the top female, finishing with a time of 18:14.
This was only 3 seconds off the course record. At age 13, Alex is
attempting to win her third consecutive Bucks 5K Series
Championship.

Last year's YMCA race winner, Heather Wallace, finished second
with a time of 19:21.

Todd Wiley, the current course record holder, was the top male, with
a time of 16:10. Johnny Marino, last year's YMCA race winner,
was second in 16:31, followed closely by Kevin Cooke in 16:35. The
race was a family affair for the Wiley brothers: Jason was 10th in
17:51 and Trevor was 36th in 19:49.

Marino won the male Master's category and had the highest male
age-graded performance rating -- 83.4%. He was followed by Terry
Permer(17:58) and Jerome Lacotta (18:05).

Gert Freas won the female Master's category with a time of 20:38.
She was also 3rd overall. Only 32 seconds separated the three top
female masters: Molly Goga ran 20:56 and Gina Buggy ran 21:10, to
finish 2nd and 3rd.

In a second family affair, the Postigliones turned in outstanding
performances. Nick (age 14) won his age group with a time of 20:18,
Francesca (age 11) won hers in 22:17, and Vincent (age 10) won his in
23:57. Watch out Wileys!

Other age group winners were Jenny Rudan, Steve Horvath, Kate
Dochelli, Josh Klimovich, Colleen Salanik, Christopher Ganter, Carla
Vesay, Matt Sikora, Heidi Pernia, David Noa, Linda Richey, Sue
Parker, Bob Duffy, Marie Dean, Art Burger, Linda Thurston, Charles

7th. The 5K kicks off a day full of fun and a variety of family-
oriented activities, ending with a late afternoon concert and
fireworks at dusk. The course is new, and includes a loop through
Chestnut Street Park, as well as a loop through Forest Park. This
will be the first public event in Forest Park in 35 years. The new
course is less hilly and should be faster.

You can register on-line for this race or the Special Equestrians 5K
(June 14th ) at www.bucks5kseries.com.

DOYLESTOWN 5K RESULTS

The weather conditions were perfect for the Doylestown 5K, and the
440 registered runners met the challenge. Shannon Grady of
Philadelphia smoked the course and set a new woman's course record of
17:50. It was also the fastest woman's time of the year for any of
the Series races. On the men's side, Doylestown's two premier
runners, Dan McKay and Todd Wiley, battled side-by-side for the
entire race. At the end, Dan finished in 15:23 to Todd's 15:27. Both
times were the best of the year, while Dan's was just 3 seconds off
Todd's course record set last year.

A total of 23 runners came in under the 6:00 minutes per mile pace.
By comparison, the next fastest race, the YMCA 5K, had only 14
runners under that pace. The fastest teenager was Stephen Kraus of
Warminster in a time of 17:07. Elizabeth Kearins of Doylestown was
the fastest female teenager, with a time of 19:02. Janice Torpey of
Schwenksville and Johnny Marino of New Hope were the fastest masters,
with times of 18:58 and 17:03, respectively.

Tim Adamsky (19:25), Rick Adamsky (19:25), and Brian Adamsky (19:27)
clearly took family honors, finishing 41st ,42nd , and 45th overall.

There was close competition in all age groups. Some of the notables
were (1) the male 25-29, where Frank Litz of Philadelphia edged Brian
Holden of Churchville by 17:52 to 17:55; (2) the male over 70, where
John Razier of Southhampton beat Frank Rubino of Levittown by 17:20
to 27:41; and (3) the female under 11, where Doylestown's Francesca
Postiglione and Katie Bonnell finished in 22:38 and 22:39,
respectively. Complete results are posted on www.bucks5kseries.com
and www.compuscore.com.

BUCKS 5K SERIES NEWS

The next Bucks 5K Series race will be the Doylestown 5k on Saturday,
May 24th. The Doylestown 5K race has always been the biggest race of
Series, with more than 500 runners expected. Visit
www.bucks5kseries.com for more information and online registration.
You can register online until Wednesday evening, or on race day.

SERTOMA RACE

The 7th annual Sertoma 5k race was held on May 10, 2003. There were
373 registered runners, a 40% increase over last year. They were
drawn by a new course that included a path along the Neshaminy Creek,
plus an outstanding post race celebration.

Dan McKay of Doylestown won the race with a time of 15:34. This was
Dan's second Series win in as many tries. It positions him well
in
the contest for the men's overall Series championship. Elizabeth
Kearins, also of Doylestown, won the women's division with a time
of
19:38. Elizabeth, last year's Series woman champion, recorded
her
first series win, after being injured in the first race of the
Series. Elizabeth had the fastest time of any teenager, male or
female.

Nancy Smith of New Britain was the first female master with a time of
20:38, while Johnny Marino of New Hope was the first male master in a
time of 16:36.

Art Burger of Doylestown had the highest age graded result – an
outstanding score of 83.7%.

There were other great stories. For example, the Postiglione family
of Doylestown -- Vincent (age 9) ran 25:13, Francesca (10) ran 22:31.
Christopher (12) ran 21:42, and Nicholas (13) ran 20:23. Seven year-
old Ted Andrus of Reading turned in a sensational time of 20:48.
Finally, 58 year-old Stephen Hirt ran his first race since his
sextuple bypass surgery in 1999, completing the race in an excellent
time of 25:08.

Complete race results are available on www.bucks5kseries or
compuserve.com.

SERIES STANDINGS

After four races, Johnny Marino and Alexandra Brasington of Dresher
are the leading man and woman. However, with 3 races remaining, the
competition for the overall Championships is still wide open.
Likewise, the age group standings. At this point, only five appear
to be locked up. The Doylestown race will be critical to runners who
are still in the running, or trying to protect leads.

The first three races of the Bucks 5K Series have been completed.
New Hope's Johnny Marino and Dresher's Alex Brasington are leading
the Men's and Women's scoring for the overall Series championship.
They each have two first place finishes and a second place finish in
the three races. Alex and Johnny were also the winners in 2002.

Dan McKay and Heather Wallace, both of Doylestown, have turned in the
fastest times of the year,. Heather ran 19:01 to win the Central
Bucks Family YMCA 5K, while Dan ran 15:56 to win the New Hope-
Solebury "Spirit" run.

On April 6th, the New Hope-Solebury "Spirit" race joined the Bucks 5K
Series, with nearly 400 registered runners. The beautiful course
began and ended at the High School. It included a jaunt through
downtown New Hope, quality time on River Road, and some lovely hills
outside of the town. Entertainment and family fun were part of the
post race activities. Dan McKay was the Men's winner and Alex
Brasington won the Women's division with a time of 19:16.

The race included more than 40 kids under the age of 15. The
youngsters turned in some outstanding times. Zachary Corse (19:13)
and Joshua Izewski (19:55) joined Alexandra Brasington in the top
25. At the other end of the age groups, Vadim Buzan (66) raced
across the finish line in an outstanding time of 22:36.

Less than one week later, the runners gathered at the Health and
Wellness Center by Doylestown Hospital for the Fitcare Lifecenter
5K. In spite of the uphill finish, Alex Brasington won the Women's
race in a course record, 19:08, while Johnny Marino won the Men's.
The most hotly contested age group was the 45-49 group, where 5
runners finished in the top 25. Tom Rudan prevailed over John
Gorgol, Fred Hopper, Jim Stein, and Mike Jeffery. The day began
under a threatening sky, but ended in sunshine. This provided a
great setting for the post race festivities.

After the first three races, there are seven runners with undefeated
(3 for 3) records in their age groups: they are Nancy Smith (45-49),
Alex Brasington (12-14), Katie Bonnell (1-11), Vadim Buzan (65-69),
Frank Hopper (60-64), Johnny Marino (40-44), and Jerome Lacotta (35-
39). The overall champions are not eligible for age group awards.
The final standings are determined by using the four best finishes in
her/his age group. As a result, most of the age group awards are
wide open at this time.

The next race in the Bucks 5K Series will be the Sertoma 5K in
Doylestown Township's Central Park. The course has been modified to
add a path along the scenic Neshaminy Creek. There will be a free
raffle for all registered runners. The prize is a Raleigh Mountain
bike. Other post race festivities will include live entertainment
and a Mother's Day plant sale. The number of pre-registered runners
is currently at record levels.

You can register online for the Sertoma 5K race, or any of the other
races at www.bucks5kseries.com.

Complete race results and series standings are also available at

It's our goal to make the Series better every year. This year, we've
decided to survey the running community to identify those areas that
could be improved. We would appreciate your assistance.

Through the survey, we'll be able to collect data and analyze the
comments of our most important people – you and the other runners who
make the Series so vibrant and relevant. We are aware that there are
many areas that can be improved. Your response will enable us to
determine the most significant ones and will guide us toward
effective corrective action.

Completing the survey will take just a few minutes. The link to the
survey is included at the end of this newsletter. After your form
has been submitted, Training Zone Sports will provide a $10 gift
certificate as a thank you. We think you will find the survey to be
unique and easy to complete.

As soon as the surveys are completed, we will share the results with
you. This will include our plans for improvement in the key areas.
Your candid thoughts, insights and responses will help make this

Dear Runners,

Thanks for your enthusiastic support of the Bucks 5k Series. 2002
was another successful year for the Series.

We measure our success by the number of runners who participate in
the Series, by their diversity and enthusiasm, and by the monetary
benefit to our seven non-profits. By these measures, the 2002 season
was a great success. More than 2500 runners participated, an 18%
increase. These runners represented all age groups, equally divided
between male and female. In fact, Elizabeth Kearins (age 13) and
Alexandra Brasington (age 11) tied for the overall Women's
Championship, while Masters runner John Marino won the overall
Men's Championship. We had serious competition in all age groups,
including the men's 70+ age group. The complete series standings
are listed on www.bucks5kseries.com

As you know, the Series was designed to improve the physical fitness
of our community and to raise money for seven non-profit
organizations. We are an all-volunteer organization that supports
the seven races financially through donations from our Series
Partners. We were able to cover the printing of our brochure and
facts sheets, engage a finish line manager and timer for all of the
races, purchase awards, arrange for refreshments, and provide
substantial publicity. The Series also administers pre-registrations
and collects application fees for each of the races. By exercising
sound financial management, the Bucks 5k Series will make an
additional contribution to each of the seven non-profit organizations.

As you might expect, we have already begun planning for next year.
We hope you will again join us. If you have any suggestions or
questions, please let us know.

Finally, the Bucks 5k Series supports the Friends of the Dove 10K,
which will be run on September 8, 2002 at Peace Valley Nature Center
in Doylestown. The time is 9:00 AM. You can register online at
www.compuscore.com or www.active.com. For more information, call

Series Standings

Results after the first 5 races are now posted on
www.bucks5kseries.com.

Alexandra Brasington and John Marino retained their lead for the
overall women's and men's championship, respectively. However, Todd
Wiley, Karl Dusen, and Eric Hathaway are still in contention for the
men's title, while Brittany Bonnell, Anne Nash, Nancy Smith, and
Elizabeth Kearins could pull it out in the women's division.

David Suita, and Lisa Peters iced their age groups last week, joining
Linda Thurston, Barbara Burger, Nancy Smith, John Marino, and Vadim
Buzan. The remaining 19 age group championships are still up for
grabs. It would be impractical to list all of the contenders for
these titles, but they are all listed on the website. Significantly,
there are 3 or 4 runners in most of the age groups who could win it
all. The competition for 2nd and 3rd place finishes is even deeper

The Bucks 5K Series awards custom tiles to each of the 1st, 2nd, and
3rd place runners in each age group. The awards ceremony will be
held
following the completion of the last race on June 15th. You must run
a minimum of 4 races, and we score your best 4. There are no ties in
the individual races.

If you haven't already registered for the last 2 races, now is a good
time to do it. You can save some money by pre-registering before the
one-week cutoff occurs. The next race is the Chalfont Challenge on
June 8th, followed by Special Equestrians 5K and the Series awards
ceremony on June 15th. As always, you can register at
www.bucks5kseries.com or www.active.com.

BUCKS 5K SERIES NEWS

                          Series Standings

To be eligible for a Series award, a runner must run a minimum of
four
races. We will score your best four. With three races to go, there
is still time left for those of you who have run just one race. We
will award distinctive Bucks 5K Series tiles to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd
place winners in all age groups, male and female. The overall Male
and Female champions will both receive our custom tile, mounted on an
attractive plaque.

The Male and Female overall championships are yet to be determined.
There have been 3 different female winners in the first four races,
Alexandra Brasington, Brittany Bonnell, and Ann Nash. They are all
in
contention, as is last year's co-champion, Nancy Smith. Elizabeth
Kearins, who won 3 races last year, will also be a factor.

The male division is in a similar state. Karl Dusen, John Marino,
and
Todd Wiley all have wins under their belts. Todd was last year's
champion. Eric Hathaway and Chuck Holliday are the long shots.

Only Vadim Buzan (M65), John Marino (M40), Nancy Smith (F45), Barbara
Burger (F55), and Linda Thurston (F60) have clinched 1st places in
the
age groups with four wins. The battles for 2nd and 3rd are still in
place.

Mike Clarke (M55), Ken McDaid (M35), David Siuta (M14), and Lisa
Peters (F50) all have 3 wins, and need one more to clinch. However,
there are several other runners who could disrupt their plans.

There are serious competitions going on the virtually all of the
other
age groups. For more detail, log on to www.bucks5kseries.com
  and click on "Series Standings".

BUCKS 5K SERIES NEWS

On a perfect day for running, a record number of runners turned out
for the Sertoma 5K race. Alexandra Brasington and John Marino both
set course records in winning the overall women's and men's
title.
For 11 year old Alexandra, this was her second win in the series.

Heather Houseknect and Brittany Bonnell were the 2nd and 3rd place
women. 13 year old Brittnay is another one of the outstanding young
runners racing this year. In fact, 13 year old David Siuta took 2nd
place in the men's overall, followed closely by Ken McDaid.

Four runners from the 40-44 age group finished in the top seven
positions, making this age group by far the most competitive. They
included John Marino, Jim Leach, Tom Rudan, and John Gorgol. The top
female masters were Nancy Smith, Cheryl Maccaroni, and Marian McCough.

For complete results and pictures of the race, log on to

Series Standings

To be eligible for Series awards, a runner must run a minimum of 4
races. For runners who run more than four, we will score your four
best finishes. Sertoma was just the 3rd of 7 races, so there is time
for everyone to both qualify and win. The Pearl S. Buck race is
Sunday, April 28th.

At this time John Marino and Alexandra Brasington are the overall
leaders. The age group leaders are Linda Thurston, Barbara Burger,
Ruth King, Nancy Smith, Cheryl Maccaroni, Diane Muntzer, Pam
Daugherty, Karla Holt, Amy Landis, Katie Pulizzano, Jody Frank, and
Brittany Bonnell. On the men's side, it's Frank Rubino,
Vadim Buzan,
Bob Berthold, Mike Clarke, Bob Richey, Fred Gropper, Jim Leach, Ken
McDaid, Sam Varano,John Guth, Eric Hathaway, Ryan Komaiko, and
Stephen Spierto.

The complete standings are listed on www.bucks5Kseries.com.

What if runners cross the finish line at the same time?
The USTAF and Bucks 5K Series do not recognize ties. In the event
that two or more runners cross the finish line at the same time, the
officials at the finish line will determine the order of finish. The
finishing order will be determined by the order in which the
runners'
tear-off tags are placed over the spindle at the end of the chute.
In these cases, the finishing times may be identical. Race awards
and Series points will be determined by the order of finish and not
by time.

Runner's,

FITCARE 5K NEWS AND RESULTS

Bid me run, and I will strive with things impossible.
Shakespeare

A record number of runners (347 registered) showed up on April 6th
for the first running of the Fitcare 5K. It was held at Doylestown
Hospital's Wellness Center in Warrington, PA. The weather was cool
and windy, and the course had some interesting hills. However, this
did not deter spirited competition, and some outstanding performances.

At the last minute, the auxiliary Police decided that they didn't
like the position of the finish line, in spite of a previous
agreement. As a result, the organizers had to make a frantic change,
causing the start to be delayed. The pack of runners was not
discouraged. After a wonderful rendition of the National Anthem by
runner and trumpeter, Skip Schanbacker, the race began.

At the end, Karl Dusen was timed in 15:46, an excellent time
considering the conditions. Eric Hathaway and John Marino were 2nd
and 3rd. John was also the first Master in 16:56. Mike Rose was the
second master.

Marian McCouch was the women's Master winner, and Nancy Smith was 2nd.

The closest age group race was in the men's 55-59 division. There,
Mike Clarke edged Art Burger by 6 seconds. They were 11th and 12th
overall. Their times place them among the top runners in the East
for this age bracket.

The next closest race was in the 70+ age group. Arthur Humphreys
nosed out Charles Greeley by 7 seconds.

At the other end of the spectrum, David Suita, age 13, was 7th
overall, with a time of 18:39.

After the first two races in the Bucks 5k Series, competition for
series awards remains wide open. In order to qualify for these
awards, a runner must run a minimum of 4 races. With 5 races
remaining, there are plenty of opportunities to score.

The next race………………..

  Sertoma 5K April 20

The place?? It is the crown jewel of the Central Bucks
community - Doylestown Township's Central Park. What a great place
to be on a Saturday morning! What a great place to launch a 5K
race! What a great cause to support just by keeping fit and having
some fun!

The race is a major fund raiser for Central Bucks Sertoma, a
group of volunteers who have recognized the needs of people in the
community and do something to help. Our proceeds are used to provide
scholarship for schools and camps, holiday gifts and meals for
families in need, specialized equipment and services for people with
hearing impairments, and others as we become aware the need. We
also contribute "sweat equity" to community projects like The Kids
Castle and Adopt-a-Highway No one in the organization is paid. In
fact, members often donate not only their time and talents, but some
of their fortunes as well.

So come and run with us on Saturday April 20 at 7:30 am.

Get fit. Have fun. Help a good cause.
     Every Step Makes a Difference
