Hey Runners,
The last race of the 2007 Bucks 5K Series is the Special Equestrians
5K. The date is June 17th, so bring your running father(s) and
celebrate an exciting Father's Day. The start is early, 8:30, so
there will be plenty of time left in the day to enjoy other
activities.
In addition to the 1-mile Fun Run, there will a DJ, raffles, good
food, and the 5th annual Plop Drop. The morning will end with the
Series Awards ceremony. The course is designed for fast times. Why
not go for a P.R?
This weekend's race is the Chalfont Challenge. We have yet another
record number of registrations, but you can still join the fun by
registering on race day, June 9th. Parking for the race can be found
at RT 202 & Oak Ave. (near the car wash). Follow signs to large
parking lot with trail that connects directly to the race
registration.
We have a few of our 2007 Bucks 5K Series dri-fit T's available.
They may be purchased at the Chalfont race for $20.
For more race information, the Series Standings, and to register for
the Special Equestrians 5K, log on to www.bucks5kseries.com.

Another record group of runners turned out at the Chalfont Challenge
on June 9th. Joe Weigner (Germantown MD) won the 5K race for the 3rd
time in the last four years with a time of 16:11. Tyler Jones
(Chalfont) finished second to Weigner in 16:57.
The warm weather didn't prevent 428 registered runners and 68 fun
runners from enjoying the morning. This was 30% more than last year.
For the women, Laura Fanelli won her sixth consecutive Bucks 5K
Series race. Her time was 19:04. She was followed by Deena Andrus
(Reading) in 20:37. Deena was also the top masters finisher, with
Kathryn Wilder (Doylestown) second in a time of 22:07.
Andrus and Linda Thurston (Doylestown) tied in the masters age-graded
competition. Their 75.4% ratings are a great illustration of how age-
grading levels the field among age groups. In this case, there is a
23 year age difference between the two women.
On the men's side, Matt Waight (Pipersville) was the first master in
17:50, followed by Carl Goldschmidt with a time of 17:59. They were
also 1-2 in the master age-graded competition, with ratings of 78.9%
and 78.8%, respectively.
Two 8-year olds, Elijah Seger (Pineville) and Jamie Hermance
(Doylestown) finished among the top 4 in their male and female age
groups at the Chalfont race.
The Special Equestrians 5K took place on Father's Day, June 17th.
Once again, a record number of runners competed, more than 25% above
last year.
Laura Fanelli grabbed her second course record this year. She ran
18:22 and broke the previous course record by nearly a minute. This
was an outstanding achievement on a warm day. Laura also completed a
clean sweep of the Bucks 5K Series by winning all seven races. Ana
Leonard (Chalfont) was second in 19:26.
Kevin Cooke (Doylestown) celebrated Father's Day with his daughter by
winning his fourth Series race. His time was 16:26. Tim Marcoe
(Lansdale) was second with a time of 16:56.
Carl Goldschmidt won both the masters and the age-graded masters
divisions with a time of 17:37 and a rating of 80.5%. David Noa
(Doylestown) was the second master in 19:08. For the women, Deena
Andrus was the top master (20:35) and Laura Holland (Upper Black
Eddy) was second (22:05). Linda Thurston again had the best age
graded rating, 77.9%.
The tightest men's race was in the 15-19 age group. Eric Arnold
(Morrisville), Patrick Haneman (Jamison), and Bobby Gomez (Perkasie)
finished 3rd, 4th, and 6th overall, with times of 17:17, 17:30, and
17:40, respectively.
The under 12 girl's race was even closer. Only 23 seconds separated
the first 4 runners. They were Jackie Kinkead (Furlong), Madeline
Reiche (Doylestown), Kira Seger (Pineville), and Julie Gallagher
(Doylestown).

Hey, Runners,
The 2008 Bucks 5K Series race schedule is now posted on
www.bucks5kseries.com. You can either register online or print an
application and mail it to us.
Individual race fees are unchanged from last year. You can still
save money by registering for all seven races. This year, your
reward will be our special moisture-wicking T-shirt. This year's
custom shirt will have long sleeves. In addition to the 5K races,
each organization will stage a 1 mile run, as well as other special
events. For the first time, the Doylestown 5K race will include a 5K
fitness walk. Many of the other races will include 2 mile fitness
walks.
Each 5K course has been officially certified by USTAF. As always,
Compuscore will provide computerized timing and scoring, while
Baldasari and Leestma will manage the finish line.
We are pleased to announce that, for the first time, all of our races
will use the ChampionChip. As you all know, our growth over the
years has been substantial. Now we'll be able to accommodate even
more runners as they cross the finish line and provide quicker
results.
As you begin to make your plans for 2008, why not incorporate the
Bucks
5k Series races into your training plans? They are a great way to
build up your speed as you train for the longer races later in the
year. Better yet, give a 7-race package to your favorite runner as a
Christmas present.
By supporting the Bucks 5K Series, you'll also be lending a helping
hand to seven important non-profit organizations. In 2007, we raised
$99,000 for the YMCA, New Hope-Solebury's Scholarship Fund,
CancerFit, SERTOMA, Bucks for Kids, CB Cares, Chalfont's Park and
Development Program, and Special Equestrians.
If you'd like to volunteer, make a personal donation, be a sponsor,
or contact us about any ideas you might have to make the Series even
better, please contact us at www.bucks5kseries.com
Have a great new year and, as you train, remember the words of
Cervantes:
"The journey is better than the end."

series. Proceeds benefit seven non-profit organizations serving Bucks
County. In 2007, 3400 runners entered the races and the overall
Series winners are recognized as the "Best of Bucks". In addition,
each of the seven races gives first, second and third place awards in
5-year age groups, with the overall male and female and the top age-
graded male and female master racers recognized. Each race has a 1-
mile fun run with awards for all finishers and many of the races
include 2-mile fitness walks In 2008, for the first time, all races
will feature the ChampionChip timing and scoring system.

The Panera Bread Bucks 5K Series day at the Panera Bread cafe in

stage another one at the Central Bucks Family YMCA on February 9th
The hours are 8:00 to 11:00 AM.
The first 50 runners who register that day will receive a $3 Panera
gift card redeemable at their new cafe in the Valley Square Center in
Warrington. In addition, the Y is offering a complimentary pass to
runners who have not yet enjoyed training at the Y.
Registrations are significantly ahead of last year's record breaker,
so we expect another great year. You probably know that if you sign
up for all seven races, you'll save $15 and receive a custom,
moisture wicking T-shirt. This year's shirt will be long sleeved.
Our brochures were mailed this week, so you should have received
one. Of course, you can always register online or print an

We have been very fortunate this year to have more Series sponsors
than ever before. In addition to our title sponsor, Panera Bread,
Comcast has returned for their 13th year as our media sponsor. They
are joined by Quigley Cold-Eeze, TrainingZone Sports, Univest, Marvic
Supply, Johnny Marino's Advanced Health & Performance Center,
Delaware Valley College Aggies, Fred Beans Family of Dealerships, and
Hall Family Chiropractic. Please support these sponsors whenever you
can because they are a key to the success of the Series. You can
also learn more about them on our website.
I hope to see you all at the Y race on March 30. Remember
Shakespeare's words from Julius Caesar "Bid me run and I will
strive with things impossible".
Dick Patterson
Hey Runners,
I hope you're aware that the YMCA race has been pushed back 2 weeks
from its normal date near St. Patrick's Day. The new date is March
30th, so there's still time to pre-register and save $5. Better yet,
pre-register for all seven races, save $15 and score a long sleeve
dri-fit Series shirt. Pre-registration closes March 22nd.
There will be many events to satisfy the most competitive athletes as
well as entire families. In 2007, Karl Dusen proved that the Y
course is fast one. He smoked it by running the fastest-ever Bucks
5K Series race in a time of 14:51.
In addition to the 5K race, there will be a Pump and Run, a 1-mile
fun run, and a kid's scramble. This year, for the first time, the
Fitness Walk will go the "whole way". The walk will start at the
same time as the race, and, like the race, will finish on the track
in the Central Bucks West Stadium.
I had the opportunity to tape a Comcast Newsmakers show last week.
Comcast has been a supporter of the Series and a sponsor for 13
years. The show will be aired during the last week of March and the
first week in April on the CNN Headline News channel. The 5 minute
segment provides a lot of information about the Panera Bread Bucks 5K
Series. We are also working to present it on www.bucks5kseries.com.
Panera Bread and The Fitness Lab at the Health and Wellness Center in
Warrington are sponsoring a registration day this Saturday, March
15th, from 9:00 to 12:00. You can walk in and pre-register for one
or all of races and enjoy a Panera bagel. The first 25 to register
will also receive a $3 Panera gift card.
www.bucks5kseries has all of the information you need to know about
the Series: last year's results, course elevations, times for the
various events, race locations, etc. While you're there, you can
register online or print a mail-in application form.
If you'd like to add another 5K race to your calendar, you may want
to consider the Bridge Valley Trail Blazer Race for Autism on April
19th. Their website is www.bvraceforautism.com.
I hope your training is going well and that I'll see you all on March
30th.
Dick Patterson
Note
The next race in the Panera Bread Bucks 5K Series race is the New
Hope-Solebury "Spirit" Run. If you're planning to run it, you can
save $5 by registering before April 6th.
YMCA Results
The Panera Bread Bucks 5K Series opened in spectacular fashion last
Sunday at the Central Bucks Family YMCA 5K. There were 610
registered runners, the largest for any previous Series race and more
than 40% ahead of 2007. Greg Wetzel (Doylestown) was the overall
winner in 16:02. He was followed by Matt Chylak (Newtown) in 16:50
and Jarrett Carr (Doylestown) in 16:58. Greg is an assistant track

by Sarah Simonetti (Perkasie) in 19:18 and Christine Louden (West
Hartford, Conn,) in 19:50.
The age graded masters winners were Nancy Smith (New Britain) and
Terry Permar (Perkasie). Nancy's time was 20:23 and her age grading
was 84%. Terry finished in 17:33, with an age-grading of 87%.

outstanding performances. For example, 11 year old Ross Wilson
(Wycombe) ran a 20:25 5K, 9 year old Timmy Kiel (Doylestown finished
in 24:58, and 68 year old Warren Taylor (Telford) crossed the line at
21:17.
As always, the competition for age group awards was fierce. For
males, only 20 seconds separated William Lever (Doylestown), Jason
Wiley (Furlong), and David Porter (Doylestown). Their times were
18:32, 18:42, and 18:52. On the women's side, the tightest race was

www.compuscore.com. There is also an exciting video of the race on
the Series website.
New Hope-Solebury "Spirit" Run
This race is arguably the most scenic race of the Series, with sights
of downtown New Hope and its countryside. In addition to the 5K
race, there will be a 1 mile fun run and a 2-mile fitness walk. The
Spirit Run is the only Series race with team competition. Teams of 3-
6 runners are welcome to join the competition for a chance to win a
free dinner at one of New Hope's fine restaurants. For more
information and to register for the race, please visit
www.bucks5kseries.com
Panera donation
New Hope-Solebury Spirit Run participants are encouraged to visit
Panera Bread on Saturday April 12th and bring the receipt to the
Panera Bread table on race day. Panera Bread will donate ten percent
of the receipts to the New Hope-Solebury Community Association
Scholarship and Athletic Funds. The receipt must be dated April 12,
2008. Limit one per runner
Series Shirts
For the 174 runners who registered for all seven races, your moisture-
wicking, long sleeve shirt will be available at the New Hope-Solebury
race

For the second year in a row, a course record was set at the New Hope-
Solebury Spirit Run. Last year it was Laura Fanelli who broke the
women's record. Last Sunday, it was Greg Wetzel (Doylestown) who ran
the fastest 5K in the race's history. His time of 15:45 beat Dan
McKay's 2003 record by 11 seconds. Greg is now 2 for 2 in the Bucks
5K Series, having won the first race, the Central Bucks Family YMCA
5K in a time of 16:02.
Sarah Simonetti (Perkasie) took the women's crown in a time of
19:23. Nancy Smith (New Britain) and Tammy Smith (Dublin) battled it

19:56.
Antonio De Vido (Doylestown) was the male Masters champion, followed
by Johnny King-Marino (Doylestown) and Jim Barger (Bensalem). Their

times were 20:12, 20:43 and 21:35, respectively. Nancy's age-graded
rating was tops among the women at 84.8%.
There were many extremely close age-group competitions. The closest
was male 55-59. Only 11 seconds separated Phil Davies (Doylestown
20:34), Terry Territo (Newtown 20:36) and Tom Brown (Jamison
20:46). On the women's side, girls 12-14 took the honors. Here, 33

TWO TRIPLES AT LAB FITNESS 5K
Nancy Smith and Antonio De Vido swept the field at The Lab Fitness +
Spa 5K race on April 26th. They both captured a triple crown by
winning the overall, the age-graded masters, and the masters
championships.
The Lab Fitness + Spa 5K race is the third race in the Panera Bread
Bucks 5K Series. As with the first two Series races, there were a
record number of runners.
Smith (New Britain) was the top overall and masters woman in the race
with a time of 19:50. Her age-graded rating was an outstanding
86.4%. To put this in perspective, a rating of 90% is world class.
Linda Shorrock (Ambler) was the second fastest woman, finishing in
20:53. Third place went to Janna Youmans (Chalfont) in 21:05.
De Vido (Doylestown) was the top overall finisher in the race with a
time of 17:21. Lee Sossen (New York NY) was second in 17:39,
followed by Ben Derby (Dublin) with a time of 17:43.
In the age-graded masters competition, De Vido was the top male. His
rating was 80.5%. Carl Goldschmidt (Doylestown) was second (77.0%)
and Tom Brown (Jamison) was third (76.5%). De Vido had the best
masters time (17:21). Goldschmidt was second (18:33) and Carlton
Seybolt (New Britain) was third (18:56).
Following Smith in the women's age-graded rating were Lynda Terry
(Chalfont) with a rating of 74.3% and Susan Walton (Hatboro, 70.3%).
Smith had the best women's masters time (19:50). Stacy Flaville -
Boop (Langhorne) was second (22:53) and Beth Miller (Furlong) was
third (23:01).
The most competitive age group race was once again male 55-59. Tom
Brown (20:25) edged Phil Davies (Doylestown) by one second, and Terry
Territo (Newtown) by 10 seconds. The threesome was separated by just
11 seconds at the New Hope-Solebury race. Davies had run the Boston
Marathon just 5 days earlier.
For the women, it was the 25-29 and 40-44 age groups. Tracey Sawyer
(21:41), Kristin Zielinski (21:58) and Jody Frank (22:12) battled it
out in F25-28, while Stacy Flaville-Boop (22:53). Beth Miller
(23:01), and Christine Murray (23:24) were also within 31 seconds in
F40-44.
The complete results for this race and all of the races are posted on
www.bucks5kseries.com. The Series Standings after the first 3 weeks
will be posted later this week.
Every Panera Bread Bucks 5k Series race includes a 1 mile fun run.
This year Kumon of Doylestown is sponsoring the one mile runs and
providing a "Run to Read" promotion. For every kid/student who runs
3 of the 1 mile fun runs, Kumon will donate a book to their school.
If the child runs 6 races, they get 2 books and if they run all 7
races, they will be entered to win one of six Barnes & Noble Gift
Cards.
The next Series race is the SERTOMA Strut on May 10th. Like all of
the Series races, the course is certified by USA Track and Field. It
is a beautiful course which starts and finishes in Doylestown
Township's Central Park. A highlight is mile 2, which is on a forest
path along the Neshaminy Creek. In addition to the fun run, the
whole family can enjoy Kids Castle after the race. If you register
before May 3rd, you can save $5. Visit www.bucks5kseries.com for
more information and to register.

May 10th at Doylestown's Central Park. Keith Capecci (New Hope)
broke the course record by 9 seconds with a time of 15:25. Keith ran
alone for most of the race, which made his time even more
outstanding. Johnny King-Marino (Doylestown) was second in 16:68,
followed by Antonio De Vido (Doylestown) with a time of 17:12.
The battle for the next three places was also the battle for the male

More than 400 5K and Fun Runners registered for the races, a 13%
increase over last year. This was the 4th consecutive Series race to
exceed the 2007 attendance. All funds raised by SERTOMA go to
scholarships and assistive technology for children and adults with
hearing impairments.
Johnny King-Marino had the best male masters age-graded rating
(84.9%) and Antonio De Vido was second (81.2%). Warren Taylor
(Telford) was 3rd with a rating of 81 %. King-Marino (16:58), De
Vido (17:12) and Paul Walsh (Chalfont), with a time of 18:25, were
the quickest masters.

first three masters, with times of 19:48, 20:17, and 20:30,

CICKEY AND CAPECCI SET COURSE RECORDS AT DOYLESTOWN 5K
Jessica Cickey (Newtown) and Keith Capecci (New Hope) were the
overall female and male winners of the Doylestown Red, White, and
Blue 5K on May 24th. They both set course records. Jessica was
timed in 17:46, a full 4 seconds off the previous record set in 2003
by Shannon Grady. Keith crossed the finish line in 15:20. This tied
Todd Wiley's record set in 2002.
The Doylestown race was the 5th race in the Panera Bread Bucks 5K
Series. It was the largest Series race ever, with 728 registered
runners. It was also the second race in a row where Capecci broke or
tied a course record. He previously set a new standard for the
SERTOMA 5K on Doylestown Township's Central Park course.
Todd Wiley (Doylestown) finished second in Doylestown with a time of
16:23.
Nancy Smith (New Britain) was second behind Cickey with a time of
19:46. Nancy also was the top female masters and had the highest age-
graded masters rating, an outstanding 86.7%. Gert Freas (North
Wales) was second in the female masters and had the second highest
age-graded female masters rating, 20:17 and 81.4%, respectively.

of 17:07. Johnny also had the highest age-graded masters rating
84.1%. Carl Goldschmidt (Doylestown) had the second best age-graded
masters rating (79.2%) and Dave Dixon was second to King-Marino in
17:59.
With 2 races to go, the Panera Bread Bucks 5K Series championship is
still wide open. On the men's side, Antonio De Vido (Doylestown),
Greg Wetzel (Doylestown), and Capecci are still in the thick of it.
For the women, it's between Smith and Sarah Simonetti (Perkasie).
The tightest age group was the male 30-34, where the top 3 finishers
were 8, 9, and 10 overall. They were Scott Keyser (Telford), Bob
Pultorack (Perkasie) and Ben Derby (Dublin) with times of 17:17,
17:33, and 17:36 respectively. As to be expected, these 3 are
battling it out for the Series 30-34 age group championship.
In the female under 12 age group, Elizabeth Huuki (Pipersville),
Jackie Kinkead (Furlong) and Katryn Bowen (Doylestown) finished in
24:15, 24:26, and 24:49. Elizabeth and Jackie are battling for the
Series title in their age group.
As is usual with the Doylestown race, the Adamsky family turned out
en masse. There were 10 in all, with brothers Brian, Tim, Greg, and
Rick turning in times between 19:23 and 21:30.

also print an application from the website.
We have 3 new race courses this year. The New Hope-Solebury Spirit

will move to a new flat and fast course, starting and ending in
downtown Doylestown. It will be held on a Wednesday evening and will
include a post race party at Bobby Simone's Restaurant. We also have
a new race, the Bridge Valley Trailblazer for Autism.
You probably know that 4000 runners competed in the 5K races and 1
mile fun runs in 2008. You and our sponsors helped us raise more
than $100,000 for our non-profit organizations. Please join us again
in 2009. Incidentally why not gift a registration to put in your
favorite runner's Christmas stocking?

PANERA BREAD REPEATS AS TITLE SPONSOR OF THE BUCKS 5K SERIES
Dear Runners,
Panera Bread and the Bucks 5K Series are continuing their partnership
to bring the best 5K races to the local running community. The
Panera Bread Bucks 5K Series opens with the Central Bucks Family YMCA
5K on March 22, 2009. The remainder of the schedule is posted on
www.bucks5kseries.com.
In addition to Panera Bread, our title sponsor, we are pleased to
announce the following additional sponsors: Univest, TrainingZone
Sports, Marvic Supply Company, Advanced Health & Performance Center,
Hall Family Chiropractic, and Quigley Cold-Eeze. We encourage you to
support these sponsors whenever possible. Without them, it would be
impossible to stage the best races in the area, and, at the same
time, raise money for our seven important local causes. As you
probably know, 4000 runners and these sponsors helped raise more than
$100,000 in 2008.
If you or your business would like to become a Series sponsor, please
contact me at www.bucks5kseries.com.
With registration now open, we are pleased that we're already have
more runners than last year at this time. Our announcement of the
three new courses has been received with great enthusiasm. If your
aim is the Broad Street Run, one of several excellent half marathons,
or a fall marathon, why don't you incorporate the Panera Bread Bucks
5K Series into your training program?
Here's wishing you a peaceful, prosperous, and fit 2009!

PANERA BREAD BUCKS 5K SERIES NEWS
Our brochures were mailed this week. If you ran a Panera Bread Bucks
5K Series race in the last 2 years you should have received one. Of
course, you can still register online (go green!) or print an
application by visiting www.bucks5kseries.com.
Here's some late breaking news that is not in the brochure: This
year for the first time, the Series will be crowning an overall male
and female age-graded masters champion. As you know, we have been
recognizing the top age-graded masters at the individual races. Now,
if you run at least 4 races you'll qualify for the overall Series
championship. We'll score this competition the same as we score the
overall championship.
Learn more about age-grading by using the pull-down "info center"
menu on our website. This scoring method evens the playing field for
all masters, ages 40 to 100. If you want to determine your own age-
grading for any race, try this link
http://www.heartbreakhill.org/age_graded.htm.
In the past we've encouraged runners to make a charitable gift to the
Series and many responded. However, this feature was only available
on paper applications. You can now contribute online. In addition,
it's possible to designate which specific cause you want to support.
We're less than 2 months from the first race, the YMCA 5K on March
22. Last year's 5K event attracted a record breaking crowd of 610
runners. It's your early test of what the upcoming season will bring
and an opportunity to run on a fast course. In fact, in 2007, Karl
Dusan finished in 14:51, the fastest 5K time of any Series race. So,
don't hesitate, register now at www.bucks5kseries.com.
We welcome your comments and suggestions. You can contact us through
the website.

second (77.0%, 21.42) and Linda Terry was third (76.8%, 24:08).
Competition in the Pump and Run event was outstanding. Henry Steinberg had 29
lifts. His 5K time was 21:37, so his adjusted time was 7:07. The athlete gets
30 seconds per lift taken off his/her time. Dennis Tanner's 5K time was 23:48,
adjusted to 8:48. In third, it was John Rickards with an adjusted time of 9:16
against a 5K finishing time of 20:16. The women results were even closer.
Martine Delorenzo's adjusted time was 9:06. Her 5K finishing time was 24:36.
Lynda Terry (9:08, 24:08) was an incredibly close second. Theresa Kulaga
(18:01, 26:01) was third.

The next Panera Bread Bucks 5K Series race is the Bridge Valley Race for Autism
on April 25th. It is expected to be one of the largest Series races of the
season. In addition to the 5K race and 1-mile Fun Run, there will be
entertainment for the entire family, such as face painting, a moon bounce, sand
art and much more.
There is on-site parking at Bridge Valley beginning at 7:30. However, with the
expectation of large numbers of runners, there will also be off-site parking at
MBIT (Middle Bucks Institute of Technology) beginning at 8:00. Three shuttle
busses will be constantly running throughout the morning and into the afternoon.
They will be driving between the race staging area and MBIT. There will be
volunteers at the entrance letting runners know if on-site parking is still
available. However, it is impossible to tell how quickly it will fill up.
Please keep this in mind as you make your preparations for the race.
See you at the races,

SIMONETTI WINS BRIDGE VALLEY AND SERIES
Sarah Simonetti won the Bridge Valley 5K Race for Autism on April 25th. This
was her fourth consecutive Panera Bread Bucks 5K Series win. With this win,
Sarah clinched the Series Championship. She was also the Series Champion in
2008.
This year was the second year for the Bridge Valley Trailblazer race and the
first year as part of the Panera Bread Bucks 5K Series. A total of 687
registered runners raced to benefit the Bucks County Autism Support Coalition.
Simonetti's time, 20:07 on the most challenging course in the Series, broke last
year's women's record by more than 2 minutes.
Larry Hannon was the men's champion, finishing in 17:28, another course record.
The men's Series Championship is still very much up for grabs, with 3 different
runners having won the first 4 races. The complete Series Standings through the
first 4 races are now posted on www.bucks5kseries.com. This includes the
age-graded masters standings.
Following Hannon were Shawn McElhaugh (17:47) and Ben Derby (17:54). Among the
women, Lisa Glover was second (20:27) and Amy Schmidt was third (21:57). As was
the case with the men, all three women broke the previous course record.
Carl Goldschmidt won the Male Masters age-graded competition for the third time
with a rating of 78.5% and a time of 18:21. The rating is based on a world-wide
data base that, unfortunately, does not factor in the course degree of
difficulty or the temperature (the day was quite hot). Stover Wiggins was
second (73.5%, 22:01) and Christoph Stannik was third (73.5%, 19:35).
For the women, Lynda Terry was the champ, with a rating of 74.5% and a time of
24:53. She was followed by Catherine Thompson (67.3%, 24:50) and Jane Ferro
(65.9%, 25:22).
Every Panera Bread Bucks 5K Series race has an accompanying 1 mile Fun Run.
This is how the Series encourages young runners and prepares them for the 5K
races. The Bridge Valley Fun Run was outstanding more than 450 students and
parents signed up for the run.
Don't forget that Kumon's "Run to Read" program is in full swing again this
year, allowing all kids who complete at least 3 One Mile Fun Runs or 5Ks (or any
combination of three runs) to earn a free book from Kumon. To date, there are
77 children participating and several have already received their first book.
Bring your child to the Fun Run table at the next race and start "Running to get
Reading".
You can see videos of the races and fun runs at www.bucks5kseries.com, courtesy
of David Pajer and TrainingZone Sports. Just go to the home page and scroll

It starts and ends at the Freight House restaurant and features pasta and cold

SMITH, GOLDSCHMIDT SERIES MASTERS CHAMPIONS
Nancy Smith and Carl Goldschmidt were the age-graded masters' winners at the
Doylestown Red, White and Blue 5K race on May 23rd. The Doylestown race was the
sixth race of the Panera Bread Bucks 5K Series of seven road races. With their
first place finishes in the masters' age-graded competition, Nancy (New Britain)
and Carl (Doylestown) locked up the Series Championships.
Age grading is a means of equalizing the performance for all runners regardless
of their age. A runner's rating is determined by comparing his time against
runners of the same age based on tables from around the world. The Panera Bread
Bucks 5K Series presents a special award to master's runners (over the age of
40) based on their ratings in each race. For information on how Series
Champions are determined and additional information on age-grading, log on to
www.bucks5kseries.com.
This year's Doylestown 5K was the largest race in the history of the Series.
Nearly 800 runners and 175 fun runners registered for the 5K race and the one
mile fun run. They enjoyed beautiful weather, 3 live bands, great post race
festivities, and excitement of a fast finish on State Street in Downtown
Doylestown. The race proceeds benefited Bucks for Kids, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel
School and the Doylestown Business and Community Alliance.
The fastest time of the day was turned in by Eric Arnold (Morrisville) with a

Garry (18:03) and Kevin Cooke (18:17). All three reside in Doylestown. The

PANERA BREAD BUCKS 5K SERIES WRAP-UP
The Panera Bread Bucks 5K Series just finished another record breaking year.
The number of 5K runners increased by 22% to 4300. Another 1000 runners enjoyed
the 1-mile Fun Runs. Thanks to runners and volunteers like you, and to our
sponsoring partners, the Series netted $119,000 for our non-profit

It demonstrates how the running community is committed to physical fitness and
supporting local causes.
Greg Wetzel and Sarah Simonetti were the overall Series champions, while Nancy
Smith and Carl Goldschmidt were the age-graded masters champions. All of the
age group winners are listed on www.bucks5kseries.com. If you visit the
website, you'll also be able to view a video of the Series awards ceremony as
well as a link to still photographs of all of the winners.
Thanks to an anonymous donor, we have added a new feature to
www.bucks5kseries.com. Each of the seven races now includes course records for
each age group. Check them out and plan your training for next year.
