DERBY, SIMONETTI WIN LAB FITNESS + SPA 5K

Sarah Simonetti and Ben Derby won the third race of the Panera Bread Bucks 5K
Series. On April 18th, a beautiful spring day in Bucks County, they were the
champions of The Lab Fitness + Spa 5K. This challenging, hilly course was no
problem for Simonetti, who won her third consecutive Series race. Derby, after
two top 5 finishes in the first Series races, broke through to win the race
going away.

Ben's time was 17:30. He was followed by Carl Goldschmidt (17:56), Peter De
Mallie (17:57) and Damian Kellogg (18:11). Sarah finished in19:45. Second
place went to Nancy Smith (20:22). She was followed by Alyson Groft (21.24) and
Shannon Gaffney (21:41).

It was a great day for Master runners. Nancy Smith was second overall and the
Master's age-graded champion. Her age-grading was 85.2% and her time was 20:22.
Carl Goldschmidt was also second overall and the Master's age-graded champion.
His age-grading was 80.3% (17:56). Second to Carl was Jim Rehrig (78.7%,
21:18). David Noa was third (76.2%, 19:21). For the women, Sue Walton was
second (77.0%, 21.42) and Linda Terry was third (76.8%, 24:08).

Competition in the Pump and Run event was outstanding. Henry Steinberg had 29
lifts. His 5K time was 21:37, so his adjusted time was 7:07. The athlete gets
30 seconds per lift taken off his/her time. Dennis Tanner's 5K time was 23:48,
adjusted to 8:48. In third, it was John Rickards with an adjusted time of 9:16
against a 5K finishing time of 20:16. The women results were even closer.
Martine Delorenzo's adjusted time was 9:06. Her 5K finishing time was 24:36.
Lynda Terry (9:08, 24:08) was an incredibly close second. Theresa Kulaga
(18:01, 26:01) was third.

The next Panera Bread Bucks 5K Series race is the Bridge Valley Race for Autism
on April 25th. It is expected to be one of the largest Series races of the
season. In addition to the 5K race and 1-mile Fun Run, there will be
entertainment for the entire family, such as face painting, a moon bounce, sand
art and much more.

There is on-site parking at Bridge Valley beginning at 7:30. However, with the
expectation of large numbers of runners, there will also be off-site parking at
MBIT (Middle Bucks Institute of Technology) beginning at 8:00. Three shuttle
busses will be constantly running throughout the morning and into the afternoon.
They will be driving between the race staging area and MBIT. There will be
volunteers at the entrance letting runners know if on-site parking is still
available. However, it is impossible to tell how quickly it will fill up.
Please keep this in mind as you make your preparations for the race.

See you at the races,

Dick Patterson
