WETZEL, SIMONETTI REPEAT WINNERS IN PANERA BREAD BUCKS 5K SERIES
Sarah Simonetti and Greg Wetzel were the winners of the New Hope-Solebury Spirit
Run, the second race of the Panera Bread Bucks 5K Series. They both also won
the initial race, the YMCA 5K. This race, in New Hope on April 5th, was held on
a beautiful spring day. It attracted 526 runners for the 5K and 88 for the 1
mile Fun Run.
Wetzel and Todd Wiley battled it out until the final lap on the high school
track. Wetzel's time was 16:22, 6 seconds ahead of Wiley. Bob Pultorak was
third in 17:18.
Simonetti won comfortably with a time of 19:50. Rebecca Hendricks was second in
21:55, followed by Carin Cohen with a time of 22:06.
The hilly course resulted in slightly slower times than the Y race. However,
thirty-one runners still beat the 20 minute barrier.
Sue Walton won the Masters Female Age Graded division with a rating of 75.4% and
a time of 22:10. Carin Cohen was second with a 74.7% rating and a time of
22:06. Sue and Carin were both in the same age group, but a one year age
difference made Sue the winner. Linda Terry was third with a rating of 74.5%
and a time of 24:52. For an explanation on how age-grading works, check out

For the Male Age Graded Masters, there was a complete sweep by New Jersey

by Mark Lorello (80.4%, 17:55) and Rick Boyle (80.4%, 19:27.
The closest age group races were male 40-44 and female 50-54. Only 5 seconds
separated Dennis Contois (19:15), Ben Cammarata (also 19:15) and Matt Costello
(19:20). That's what you call close! For the 50-54 group of women, Julia
Kennedy (25:17), Cindy Ezdon (25:22) and Kit Schweiker (25:36) finished 1-2-3.
