Two of the top young runners in the area, Alexandra Brasington and
Joshua Izewski, are the overall champions of the 11th annual Bucks 5K
Series.

The Bucks 5K Series is a series of seven 5 kilometer road races held
during the spring in the Central Bucks area. More than 2600 runners
competed for the overall championship and for awards in 14 age
groups. In addition, over 500 runners and walkers participated in
the one-mile fun runs and two-mile health walks that were part of
each day's events. The Series ended on June 18 at the Special
Equestrians facility in Warrington, one of seven non-profit
organizations which benefit from the Series.

For Brasington, 15, from Dresher, this is her 5th consecutive
championship. She won the title first in 2002 when she was 11 years
old. She was in danger of having her consecutive streak broken by
Laura Fanelli (Chalfont). However, Alexandra focused on the Chalfont
Challenge and won it in her best time of the year, 19:26. This
performance locked up the Series championship.

Izewski, 16, from Doylestown, won his first overall championship. He
had previously won 2 age group awards, beginning in 2003. Joshua
went into the final race of the year, the Special Equestrians 5K,
needing a win against Timothy Zwall (Ivyland) and Damian Kellogg
(Trenton NJ). These three finished 1-2-3 in the race, with times of
16:43, 17:10, and 17:21, respectively. With his win, Izewski won the
championship, followed closely by Kellogg and Zwall.

The Series championship is decided by the runner's best finishes in
four of the seven races. As a result, it is a measure of both speed
and consistency. The seven races and the non-profits they benefit
are Central Bucks Family YMCA, New Hope-Solebury Community
Association, Doylestown Hospital's Health and Wellness Center,
SERTOMA, Doylestown Business and Community Association, Chalfont
Borough Parks, and Special Equestrians. The Series netted $80,000
for these organizations. www.bucks5kseries.com includes specific
information on the charitable services provided by these
organizations.

Age group winners are determined in the same way as the overall
champions. The age group leaders were:

Under 12 Samuel Lindgren and Erinne Munie
12-14 James Stevenson and Hannah Lindgren
15-19 Jeff Dickson and Sarah Quinlan
20-24 Michael Jacobs and Rebecca Gorodetzer
25-29 Kirk Palermo and Laura Fanelli
30-34 Matthew Sikora and Christina Grube
35-39 Timothy Zwall and Heidi Pernia
40-44 Antonio De Vido and Deena Andrus
45-49 David Noa and Gert Freas
50-54 Fred Gropper and Joan Kotz Kovar
55-59 Mike Clarke and Marie Dean
60-64 Louis Coppens and Linda Thurston
65-69 Warren Taylor
70- Richard Millham

Complete Series standings and the results of each of the seven races
may be found on www.bucks5kseries.com. The schedule for 2007 is
already posted on this website.
