Todd Wiley (Doylestown) and Alexandra Brasington (Dresher) were the
male and female winners of the Special Equestrians 5K race on June
19. This was the seventh and final race of the Bucks 5K Series.
The proceeds of the race will benefit Special Equestrians'
therapeutic horseback riding and driving programs.
Todd finished with a time of 16:09, edging Kevin Cooke (Doylestown)
who ran 16:20. The women's race was even closer. Alexandra beat
Meagan McGinley (Doylestown) by only 7 seconds -- 19:50 to 19:57.
This was Meagan's first race of the Series.
Gert Freas (North Wales) was the age-graded female masters winner
with a rating of 77.7%. Gert was also the female masters winner with
a time of 20:18. Gina Buggy (Chalfont) was second in both categories
(76.2% and 20:41).
For the men, Larry Levy (Reading) had both the top age-graded rating,
as well as the fastest masters time (79.3% and 17:01). Bob Powell
(Furlong) had the second highest age-graded rating, 78.5%, while
Antonio De Vido (Doylestown) had the second best masters time, 17:28.
The toughest age group was male 40-44. The first 8 runners all
finished under 20 minutes. The closest age groups were M45-49, M50-
54, and F45-49. Slightly over 1 minute separated the top 3 runners
in each of these age groups. In F45-49, it was Gert Freas, Gina
Buggy, and Laurie Walsh. In M45-49, Bob Powell, John Gorgol, and
James Nash. In M50-54, Dave Willard, Terry Greber, and Thomas Brown.
Sandy Oppenheimer was the oldest runner at 79. The youngest, Daniel
Powell, age 6, was the very next finisher behind Sandy. Where else
but in a road race would you see that?!
Registration for the 2006 Series races will open in December. Stay
fit!
