On a damp day in Chalfont on June 5th, 281 runners registered to run
the Chalfont Challenge, race number 6 in the Bucks 5K Series. When
it was over, Nancy Smith (New Britain) won both the overall women's
and the master's race in a time of 19:53. Deena Andrus (Reading) was
second overall in 20:20 and Gert Freas was the second master in 20:59.
For the men, Steve Kraus (Warminster) clocked a 17:03 time, finishing
nearly a minute ahead of Jason Wiley (Furlong), who finished as the
second overall male in 18:07. Johnny Marino (Doylestown) was the
first master in 18:25 followed by Kevin Sullivan (Jamison) with a
time of 18:41. Marino's accomplishment was outstanding, considering
that he ran the race with his arm in a sling, the result of a recent
biking accident. He also locked up the overall Series Championship
with a string of consistent performances. Alexandria Brasington is
the female Series Champion.
There were some great age graded results turned in by the runners.
Mike Clarke raced at the 79.5% level, followed by Ken Worthen at
78.9%. Nancy Smith's rating was 80.7%, with Joan Kovar second at
75.2%. Among the youngsters, Hannah Lindgren (age 10) achieved
69.6%, while Patrick Haneman (age 14) hit 69.7%.
The Series standing through the first 6 races are now posted on
www.bucks5kseries.com. Please review the standings and advise us of
any corrections because many positions are still in contention.
Custom made tiles will be awarded to the first 3 runners in each age
group. You must have completed at least 4 races. If you are
affected, be sure to come out to the last race and go for the glory.
The last Series race will be at the Special Equestrians facility in
Warrington. The race starts early at 8:30. Registration begins at
7:00 AM. This course is probably the fastest in the Series. It's
the one to meet or exceed your personal goal for the Spring season.
As always, there will be great food, a DJ, an impressive list of door
prizes for registered runners, and the Series Awards ceremony
immediately after Race Awards. A special feature will be the "Plop
Drop". You can buy a deed for a plot of land. If our horse makes
a "deposit" on your land, you'll win a $500 prize. Deeds for each
plot can be purchased for $10. It should be real fun!
If you register by Friday afternoon, you will avoid the $5 late fee.
