A hot day didn't prevent Alex Brasington from setting yet another
course record at the 8th annual Sertoma 5K in Doylestown's
Central Park. With a time of 18:58, she won her 4th consecutive Bucks
5K Series race and sewed up the Bucks 5K Series championship. Nancy
Smith, the 2001 champion, took second in a time of 20:13. Nancy, who
is back after suffering a wrist injury prior to the season's
start, won the Master's Division. Gert Freas was the second
master with a time of 21:05.
Michael Lehtonen and Johnny Marino battled it out at the front of the
race. Michael prevailed in a time of 16:01. This was his second
series win. Johnny finished with a time of 16:27, his best time of
the year. Marino was also the first Master. Kevin Sullivan took
second in 18:47.
The closest age group races were the men's 25-29 and the
women's 40-44. Brian Holden edged Chris Ganter with a time of
17:16 to 17:23. Gert Freas (21:05), Molly Goga (21:17) and Ginny
Buggy 21:18) were almost as close as you can get.
Among the various families entered, Sarah (26:40), Brian (24:31),
Karen (23:21), and Joe (22:24) Quinlan all turned in outstanding
times for their age groups.
Alex Brasington has won the women's overall Bucks 5K Series
championship. However, with one exception, all of the other age group
awards are still open. In the women's 60-64, Linda Thurston has
already clinched the title. For the men, Johnny Marino leads the
overall scoring, with Michael Lehtonen second. All of the men's
age group winners are still to be determined.

The next Bucks 5K Series race is the Doylestown 5K on May 29th. This
race is always the biggest of the Series, and this year will be no
exception. For the first time, there will be team competition, a 1-
mile run, and a pump-and-run event. The "pump" will take place Friday
night at the CB Family YMCA. In addition, there will be Street
Festival staged by Roosevelt's Blue Star. And, finally, our own
Dr. John, Johnny Marino and the Medical Healing Arts Center, will
host a free, post-race barbecue for all racers.
