The Bucks 5K Series kicked off the 2004 season on March 14th at the
Central Bucks Family YMCA in Doylestown. In spite of the chilly
weather, 429 runners registered for the 5K race and 80 runners
competed in the 1 mile fun run. The 5K race featured spirited
competition, outstanding performances, personal records, and
satisfying finishes by many first-time runners. Post race
festivities revolved around a St. Patrick's Day theme with a
bagpiper, face painting, blarney stone painting, and lots of good
food.

Alex Brasington was the top female, finishing with a time of 18:14.
This was only 3 seconds off the course record. At age 13, Alex is
attempting to win her third consecutive Bucks 5K Series
Championship.

Last year's YMCA race winner, Heather Wallace, finished second
with a time of 19:21.

Todd Wiley, the current course record holder, was the top male, with
a time of 16:10. Johnny Marino, last year's YMCA race winner,
was second in 16:31, followed closely by Kevin Cooke in 16:35. The
race was a family affair for the Wiley brothers: Jason was 10th in
17:51 and Trevor was 36th in 19:49.

Marino won the male Master's category and had the highest male
age-graded performance rating -- 83.4%. He was followed by Terry
Permer(17:58) and Jerome Lacotta (18:05).

Gert Freas won the female Master's category with a time of 20:38.
She was also 3rd overall. Only 32 seconds separated the three top
female masters: Molly Goga ran 20:56 and Gina Buggy ran 21:10, to
finish 2nd and 3rd.

In a second family affair, the Postigliones turned in outstanding
performances. Nick (age 14) won his age group with a time of 20:18,
Francesca (age 11) won hers in 22:17, and Vincent (age 10) won his in
23:57. Watch out Wileys!

Other age group winners were Jenny Rudan, Steve Horvath, Kate
Dochelli, Josh Klimovich, Colleen Salanik, Christopher Ganter, Carla
Vesay, Matt Sikora, Heidi Pernia, David Noa, Linda Richey, Sue
Parker, Bob Duffy, Marie Dean, Art Burger, Linda Thurston, Charles
Loughery, and Frank Rubino.
